4.7 4.7 out of 5 stars 1,811 ratings

From microaggressions to the wage gap, The Memo empowers women of color with actionable advice on challenges and offers a clear path to success.

Most business books provide a one-size-fits-all approach to career advice that overlooks the unique barriers that women of color face. In
The Memo, Minda Harts offers a much-needed career guide tailored specifically for women of color.

Drawing on knowledge gained from her past career as a fundraising consultant to top colleges across the country, Harts now brings her powerhouse entrepreneurial experience as CEO of The Memo to the page. With wit and candor, she acknowledges "ugly truths" that keep women of color from having a seat at the table in corporate America. Providing straight talk on how to navigate networking, office politics, and money, while showing how to make real change to the system,
The Memo offers support and long-overdue advice on how women of color can succeed in their careers.

A MUST READ FOR EVERYONE!!! Especially great on Audible!!!
Minda Harts is the TRUTH!!! This book is the one I needed over 30 years ago!! The personal stories Minda shares brought up so many memories, good and bad, of my journey as a Black Woman "out here in these corporate streets"!! Lots of laughter and lots of tears for that young Cassandra whose pollyana-ish mind could not compute what was happening to her. Reading this was truly an emotional experience for me and back then it would have validated that I was not crazy and that racism is real even when you play by all the rules. Thanks so much Minda for carrying the mantle, sharing your life and for providing tools for those on the success journey. I will be gifting The Memo and will do a virtual book club as we work our way through COVID-19!!I have a seat at the table (Hallelujah!!!!) and I know I put in the work and that I am valuable and worthy. I am paying it forward at every turn. It's not easy but it's worth it. God's Plan.Minda Harts: Thank you for this LOVE letter to Women of Color. New York, Grits, Beyoncé, Rap Lyrics and the Truth!!! I really enjoyed your audible version!! I love the Monday Lunch on LinkedIn and the Podcast!! Thanks for all the rich content and I look forward to seeing you in New York one day soon!

This book is life changing. I picked up this book because my career had plateaued, and I didn’t understand why. Now, I do.
Not only does this book provide insight, there are clear and actionable next steps to improve your career.

I absolutely loved this book! And to the women complaining about it being only for black women seriously need to get over themselves. But this book really did help me in ways that allowed me to stand out and have my work be recognized by those in corporate!! I was the highest performer at my start up company and I was even going to get a bonus for all the work I put in! However I ended up leaving due to a bunch of jealous and insecure broads provoking me and brining me out of character. I’m not a perfect victim but some people are really skilled at bringing out the worst in others. With that being said I just wish that there was chapter solely based on conflic resolution especially when the conflict is coming from YOUR OWN BLACK PEOPLE

Do you have that friend that you can't wait to have a drink or lunch with? That friend who is close enough in age to you that you can connect but has lived more life than you that they have seen some stuff? That friend who is wicked funny, drops more pop culture than People or has more stories than the New York Times?

That friend that can wrap all of that into amazing advice, insight, critical feedback, and love?

I felt like I was with that friend from page one of Minda Harts' book The Memo: What Women of Color Need to Know to Secure a Seat at the Table. This book is a must-read for anyone who feels that they are being held back or overlooked in their career. Ms. Harts provides actionable insight that you can use to get yourself in the right headspace and the right workspace to succeed.

And for those of us that lead young people, women, people of color, and others from underrepresented groups, this book will be the wake-up call that you need to be the "Success Partner" that those around you deserve and that you are required to be.

My favorite chapter is Let's Werk which provides great resources, examples, and guidance on how an individual can put Ms. Harts' advice to work.

We all need a friend that wants to help us be the most we are capable of being. This book can be one of those friends.

Minda provides an acute assessment of the workplace for Black and Brown women which particlarly resonated with me. For all of us who have been over performing whilst being on constant alert, Minda outlines a roadmap to reframe and focus our talent. I also appreciated that the book is inclusive and addresses all women

Highly recommend!!!! for black women who are experienced in the corporate game already or for those who want to “lean in” and better understand the corporate culture from someone who is just like you!
Her writing style is matter of fact and the book is filled with anecdotes from her own journey to securing her “seat”. You will definitely find value and practical information in every chapter.
