As a young parent and newbie homeschooler, I tried to fit my children's education into the only model of school I knew. Textbooks, daily schedules, and slogging through one tedious workbook after another made education seem boring, when it ought to be a lifelong adventure. As my children grew, I noticed how much learning happened outside of "school" time, through library books or life experiences. We moved to a more relaxed, eclectic mentoring style. We discovered that even a math textbook can be fun when used as a source of puzzles.
On a daily basis, homeschoolers, tutors, and parents simply trying to help with homework experience the truth of the adage "The teacher learns more than the students." I've been learning more than my children for three decades now, and helping other parents learn more than their children for almost that long. I have followed and enjoyed Denise Gaskins's blog for years and as a homeschooling mom, I have used ideas from her blog in our homeschooling journey. Even though I have been playing Math games for over a decade now, Let's Plau Math Sampler has some new games which I can play with my children now. Playing is the only way to learn Math because Math is fun and Denise knows it!

"Prevent math anxiety ----- by playing games!" Denise Gaskins has done it again! She has written an amazing collection of games playable in classrooms and home-schools alike. You could even play them at home to get away from the screens or in the summer.

Can't say enough good things about Denise Gaskins books!

These books shes came out with have great ideas and methods that should be implemented in some of our curriculums. She has a way of teaching math that makes it easy and fun. Plus these would be great for kids that don't get math one way, and might help them to understand it much better and retain it longer because she uses real life scenarios to set up problems in math.
If you want to help out your kids with home schooling this might be an excellent book for your math side of teaching.
