I’m a writer, traveller and hopeful romantic, and am currently on a one-year sabbatical with my partner, Ben, living and writing across the world.

As a traveller, I love exploring new places, outdoor adventures, and eating and drinking like a local, and many of my travel adventures have found homes in my novels.

My first novel, One Summer in Santorini, a romantic comedy set in Greece and inspired by our real-life love story, was published in 2019 by One More Chapter (HarperCollins), sparking the 5-book Holiday Romance series. Also with One More Chapter are my Christmas Romance series, celebrating my favourite time of year, and The Dating Game, a stand-alone romcom set in the world of Reality TV.

My new 5-book romcom series with Boldwood Books is about the Ever After Agency, a bespoke matchmaking agency based in London, with a brilliant cast of characters and settings around the world. Books 1 and 2, Match Me If You Can and Shout Out to My Ex, are out now and Book 3, The One That I Want, is out July 23, 2024, with Book 4 arriving in time for Christmas.

I am represented by Lina Langlee of The North Literary Agency.

Transports you straight to Greece!
Thank you @netgalley for the review copy of this book. All opinions are my own. One Summer in Santorini publishes on 6.24.19! 🇬🇷Warning: this is a perfect summer read that will make you dream about planning your own Greek excursion. Maybe you’ve already had the honor of visiting and it will instantly bring back memories of whitewashed buildings, beautiful harbors and fabulous feast. Either way the descriptions in this book are beyond fabulous. You can picture the vivid bougainvillea, see the brilliant blue water and almost taste those homegrown tomatoes. Greece is high on my bucket list and I loved spending this literary moment being transported there. If that’s not enough of a setting for you, the cast spend 10 days sailing to different ports around the Greek islands. I loved the scenes on their boat and the mix of personalities amongst the characters. They truly felt like a tight knit family once the trip was over. It’s funny how friendships can develop so quickly, but I’ve experienced it in real life so I felt connected to that aspect of the story. The light romance was captivating from start to finish. Sarah was a wonderful lead character. She was honest and very realistic. I enjoyed watching her get over a failed relationship and rediscover her passion and zest for life again. Watching her struggle with her unexpected feelings towards two men was just plain fun to witness. One definitley caught my attention and I so hope there is a sequel so we can continue the love triangle and adventures in a new tropical setting!! It would be wonderful to see how / if Sarah and Josh have made any changes in their everyday life and encorporated the feelings they took away from their brief trip. What really sealed the deal for me on this sweet story, was the author’s notes. She mentions that she penned this as a love letter to her partner, whom she met on a pier in Santorini. It was apparent Greece holds a very special place in her heart.

I enjoyed this book very much, I read it very fast because I didn’t want to put it down. The characters were relatable and I loved the descriptions of the food and scenery. Greece is probably my favorite country to visit so it was that much better for me. I only wish that the author had done a follow up book with these characters, letting the reader know what happened to all of them when the vacation was over.

I was drawn to this book because I love to travel. ‘Summer in Santorini’ is about a yacht trip from Santorini to Mykonos- stopping along the way in other islands such as Naxos and Ermoupoli in the island of Syros.

The people on the yacht tour became close friends. The main character is Sarah, who gets to know Josh also on this trip. The book has an easygoing pace. I loved the conversations, the sightseeing and the attention paid the Greek food enjoyed on the trip!

The author is on now my DO NOT READ HER BOOKS list! I enjoyed the book and her characters as she developed this burning question that needed to be resolved. And then the book ended abruptly leaving me hanging. It felt like a shocking slap in the face!
Never again! If an author can't think it through to a satisfactory ending and decides instead to let the reader finish, she's no author I want to follow.

I was there in that boat. Felt the waves and smelled the sea. I was tired from the hiking. I was in awe with the beautiful scenery and loved the beautiful, fantastic churches. I also got full at the delicious dinners and got drunk from the Greek cocktails.
And the sexy American. Mmm-mmm. I pictured his good looks a nd I also fell in love. James seemed nice, rich and worldly, but not for Sarah.
Fantastic book!! Funny, witty and very real.

Quarantine may be over, at least for the time being, but I needed something to get me out of my own head, house and life. One Summer in Santorini was that perfect escape.
Gorgeous islands, smooth sailing, new friends, the best, fresh food in the world and love can all be found in this debut. As with similar novels, some of the plot is utterly predictable, but there are enough twists and turns to keep it interesting. I hope there is a sequel in the works, because the end is killing me.

I have to admit that I absolutely loved this book and can hardly wait for the next book from this author. Her storyline was well developed, with the description of Greece interwoven in the stories of the various passengers on the boat.
The character development was amazing, with Josh and Sarah's romance woven into the challenge of the "silver fox" added to the mix.
A great summer read .

I enjoyed this well-written travel related romantic comedy. Good characters, the descriptions of the trip, the locations, people and good were excellent. I really felt like I was there. As another habitual over thinker, I understood the heroine's dilemma. Really good, kind of abrupt ending. I'm hopeful for a sequel.

Read the book because I fell in love with the island when I went to Greece.. I wanted to capture the beauty of the world. As a result, I took early retirement, painted, traveled, etc., made my life bigger and filled with what is important, friends, family, extended family, the beauty of the living world. The title of the book enticed so I purchased the book which I thoroughly enjoyed. Very entertaining and beautiful written.

This book takes you to Greece, specifically to the Greek Islands. It lets you travel on your couch safely so that's a big plus these days.
I enjoyed Sarahs first part of her story (not a real spoiler: In book three Sarahs story will continue). Even though I have to say that I loved the second book more. Nevertheless I recommend you buying this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars An island hop of escapism...
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on July 8, 2019
One of the most refreshing things about this story was that joyous point of view that is an Australian traveler sharing their unique perspective of Europe. It really does make a Brit like me see if with fresh eyes, which, given I have a soft spot for the Greek islands anyway, means they positively shimmered in this book. As did the wit and self-deprecating humour. All well timed and laugh out loud funny. Look (as the Ozzies say), I'm not going to pretend that I was constantly rooting for Sarah. At times her impetuous behaviour really bugged me. She was definitely a likeable protagonist, don't get me wrong... I just couldn't warm to some of her romantic antics. But I'll park that minor issue right there because this is still a 5 star story and despite wanting to slap her a couple of times, it didn't detract from me enjoying the novel immensely. The author is clearly well traveled and you feel that you pick up all sorts of Greek - and other worldly - nuggets along the way. Brilliant writing style and a refreshing ending. Barker is very much a romcom talent to watch!

4.0 out of 5 stars A Holiday Romance to Transport You To Greece
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on April 8, 2020
During this time of uncertainty, when all I wanted to do was escape from the real world for a few hours, Sandy Barker’s ‘One Summer in Santorini’ gave me exactly what I was looking for. I absolutely raced through this intriguing romance and honestly felt like I was yachting through the Greek Islands with Sarah and the whole gang. The premise of being attracted to two men was interesting (don’t worry, no spoilers here!) and I honestly didn’t expect the book to end in the way it did - I am now waiting with bated breath for the follow up!

Thanks Sandy for writing a magical book full of pure escapism - your passion for Greece shines through.

4.0 out of 5 stars Romance, travel and food in equal parts
Reviewed in Australia on March 17, 2020
A light and sunny read on the surface; romance, travel, and food in equal parts. But, there's more to One Summer in Santorini than that. Barker has a sharp and excellent eye for characters and description. She throws us into the deep end, and into close quarters with an eclectic group of travellers sailing the Greek Isles.
There's tension, undercurrents, bad behaviour and lots of flirting.
Out main protagonist Sarah, keeps us informed with her internal chatter that feels very real, and refreshingly Australian. And while she starts out on a holiday to forget her nasty ex, Sarah discovers a great deal more about herself as she unwinds and gets up close and personal with her sailing family.
Tears, tantrums, laughter, and love - a great combination.
