Review

Mended will show you how to create an incredible, God-honoring legacy for your family. This is an amazing resource for anyone who desires to deepen their mother-daughter relationship in a biblical, healthy, and healed way.”
Lysa TerKeurst, New York Times bestselling author and president of Proverbs 31 Ministries

“What a precious opportunity to write a book with your momma! Maybe you don’t think so because the relationship with your mother is more toxic than tender. Blythe and Helen weave godly practical suggestions to move the relationship with your mother or daughter from harmful to healed. In a beautiful conversation, the duo teaches the reader how to sow seeds of peace rather than discord by pointing her to the Author of reconciliation, Jesus.”
Wendy Pope, Proverbs 31 Ministries speaker and author of Wait and See and Yes, No, and Maybe

“If you’re ready to deepen and strengthen your relationship with your mother, your daughter, your mother-in-law, your daughter-in-law, Mended offers the practical, biblical guidance and wise, heartfelt encouragement you’re looking for. Whether you struggle with past hurts or present disappointments, Helen and Blythe make it clear that, ‘No one and no relationship is beyond hope.’ Each suggestion is supported with Scripture and wrapped in real-life examples drawn from two different generations. So helpful, so hope-filled, so healing!”
Liz Curtis Higgs, bestselling author of Bad Girls of the Bible

“Sometimes you feel an immediate connection with a friend and wonder how it’s possible for her to be so unique and special. Then you meet her mother, and suddenly you understand—all the qualities you most admired and loved came from the root. It’s difficult to put into words the joy I feel about this book releasing. I cannot think of two women who embody transparency, courage, strength, and wisdom more than Blythe Daniel and Helen McIntosh. I have been privileged to journey alongside these two and have been blessed by their love, respect, and compassion flowing like a beautiful river between them. Be careful—because, as you read this book, you’ll surely get soaked in their special kind of wonderful, and your own mother/daughter relationships will surely be saturated in the love of Jesus, the mender of our souls.”
LaTan Roland Murphy, friend and author of Courageous Women of the Bible

“The mother/daughter relationship is a beautiful gift and yet a complicated one. It can be both a place where we are most comfortable and vulnerable and yet, at times, feel as though we are walking a tightrope to maintain it. Blythe and Helen, in the practical guide of Mended, give us the tools we need to navigate nurturing and restoring this most important relationship. It will be a resource I refer again and again.”
Lynn Cowell, Proverbs 31 Ministries speaker and author of Make Your Move

“If you have ever thought, ‘I wish I knew how to really talk to my mom, to my daughter,’ this book will be a gift. So often we allow years to pass, stuck in misunderstanding and brokenness simply because we don't know what to do or what to say. Mended will give you a place to begin.”
Sheila Walsh, author of It's Okay Not to Be Okay

“Mothers and daughters make such interesting duos! Helen McIntosh and Blythe Daniel are no exception. They have bared their souls and brightened our relational paths with their cowriting of this soul-searching, life-instructing book. They walked through fire as they wrote, and the results have emerged as pure gold. If you have a mother, daughter, daughter-in-law or, really, any woman you care about, this book is for you!”
Jan Silvious, friend and author of Courage for the Unknown Season and Fool-Proofing Your Life

“I vacillated back and forth between mother and daughter as I read Mended—learning as a mother, absorbing as a daughter. These words can unlock those of us who have felt stuck within either role, unsure of how to find a new way out of old patterns. God’s heart for healing families lies within these pages.”

Powerful read!!

Powerful read!!
This book is the one I wish I had when my mom was still alive. This book is well written by Blythe and her mother, Helen. It dives deep into the relationship, both good, bad and everything else involving mothers and daughters. It also helps the reader to resolve issues within themselves if their mother is no longer alive. There is a lot of Scripture and helpful words that can be a bridge to help rebuild relationships. I believe that every woman will benefit from this book. Whether you’re a daughter, a mother or you mother or daughter has passed away, you will gain something from this book. Get this book and also get it for the women in your life. I received an early copy in exchange for my honest opinion.

I'm only into the 1st chapter and this book is already hitting home on so many different levels concerning mine and my daughter's relationship. Thank you to the authors for helping us heal decades long hurt. Highly recommend for any mother / daughter relationship.

Even though I’ve been blessed with a wonderful relationship with my mother, I’m well- aware there are no perfect relationships. There’s always room for improvement. Many women are estranged from their mothers or try to avoid them because any time spent together results in conflict. "Mended: Restoring the Hearts of Mothers and Daughters" by mother/daughter authors Helen McIntosh and Blythe Daniel, offers wisdom and practical insights for restoring and strengthening mother/daughter relationships.

What I like about this book is that the authors are authentic. Helen and Blythe are transparent in telling about their experiences as both mothers and daughters. Their point of view bounces back and forth between the two authors, the two generations. They say, "to restore means not to ignore but to choose to make things new. Restoring the heart is a spiritual journey." They desire to help women learn to build bridges not walls, encouraging them to rely on the ultimate bridge-builder, Jesus Christ.

Topics include: considering ways you and your mother or daughter are the same and different, always choosing your relationship above being right, learning when to speak and when to be quiet, accepting responsibility for your part in the relationship, being willing to forgive, resisting the temptation to control or change the other person and much more.

In addition to Helen and Blythe’s personal experiences, they pack each chapter with practical ways to strengthen the mother/daughter relationship. Each chapter concludes with “Mending Thread” ideas of how to implement some of these changes as well as “Making it Personal” steps to walk these principles out in your own life and relationships.

I also appreciate the multi-generational appeal of this book. Helen reflects on her relationship with her mother, but also talks about how she interacted with her daughter, Blythe, during her childhood and adult years. Blythe brings the perspective of her relationship with her mother, Helen, and with her young daughters. They offer a rich legacy to this younger generation.

Mended is an excellent resource for any woman who wants to deepen her relationship with her mother or daughter and set a new pattern for going forward.

Want a good relationship with your mother or daughter but just don't know how? Two wonderful Christian women open their hearts and share their experiences of difficult times in order to reach the best of times - total restoration with each other for them and for you, the reader! I know them and saw the struggles Helen had while writing the book - feeding tube and nausea and a sudden inability to walk - but the Lord propped her up and I saw a miracle! The drive to not only get well but to write this book with her beloved daughter gave her the impetus to pursue their working together. This is not a book to be taken lightly. Each and every word was prayed over. Everything written is grounded in Scripture as well as their deep longing to offer the skills to help you work through issues with your own mother or daughter. What works for moms and daughters also applies to relationships with others - husbands, sons, friends. A book you will return to again and again as you practice what to say to make things better. Your life will be enriched and blessed with the reading of this book.

Her children arise and call her blessed;  Proverbs 31:28a Yeah, that ain't happening in my house.  My 14 year old daughter loves Jesus, and she's mature enough in her faith to understand that her relationship with God should affect the way she treats me.  But oh, the hormones and insecurities and growing pains and emerging wings.  At times the sass and disrespect just explodes out of her like a balloon blown up past capacity.  Other times I can see the battle waging inside of her as the war continues between us.  And I am no innocent in the matter.  As much as I love her (it's so painful at times), her words and tone can prick my pride like nothing else.  Anger, confusion and hurt feelings = more hurt feelings - hers.  What hills are worth dying on?  What can I let go for the sake of harmony and what will lead her into a life of crime and sloth if not dealt with?  When should I apologize and when should I insist that she?Being a mom to a daughter is hard.  Just last week, I said these words to my beautiful girl, "How are we going to rewrite this story so I'm not always the villain?  You know I am FOR you, right?"  I know I'm not alone.  Every time I bring the subject up with friends or acquaintances (anyone who will listen, really), I receive sympathy, understanding and similar stories in return.   Mended:  Restoring the Hearts of Mothers and Daughters by Blythe Daniel and Helen McIntosh has put me on the path of rewriting the story.  Written by a mother/daughter duo, they draw from their own personal anecdotes and Helen's doctorate of Education in Counseling Psychology to provide a resource that is both relatable and helpful.

This is a perfect example of how communicating helps build a strong family base. My daughter and I have always had trouble communicating how we feel to each other. I take the blame. This book shows how easy it is to just have a conversation. Takes the guess work out. Would highly recommend.
