Editorial Reviews

Review

"I have the good fortune to read many Holmesian pastiches. One of the best I've seen recently is Debra Snow's and Arjay Lewis's Homes & Watkins adventures. Not only do they have the flavour of classic Doyle, but they also differ with a splendid sense of humor that provides both mystery and comedy in welcome doses. Recommended VERY highly!!!"
--Marvin Kaye, Editor
Sherlock Holmes Mystery Magazine

Debra Snow and Arjay Lewis make an exceptional writing team. A Study in Murder keeps with the spirit and mystique of the Sherlock Holmes series written by Conan Doyle. The humorous play on words of the characters' last names adds a unique twist throughout this novel. There is a depth within the narrative as the reader sees a blend of both the male and female writing tone when Sheryl Homes tells her side and Mark Watkins recounts his. Homes is the more dominant one here, as is Sherlock in the original books. Expect many twists and deductions because these Sherlock Holmes writers are excellent students of the beloved detective. I highly recommend this well-written mysterious romance and look forward to reading more from this writing team.

This author is new to me and I am impressed. When Sheryl Homes is invited to a conference she is looking forward to meeting another writer Mark Watkins. But when Mark falls for the wiles of the woman who stole Sheryl's husband she takes an immediate dislike to him. But when they are accused of her ex-husbands murder it is up to them to find out the truth. Using Sherlock and Holmes methods they start investigating. The heat is on especially with their attraction to each other.

A joyful romp through the book industry! Some of the romance is a bit too focused on body parts, but the story overall is smart and builds the characters well. Enjoy New York settings, the Book Convention and characters you will meet!

This book was very much like a Sherlock Holmes novel, and the two main characters much like Holmes and Watson. The play on their names is also catchy. This is a very good mystery and keeps one interested until the very end. Unlike the other books by Arjay, this one has no other worldly gifts involved and still hold one's interest. If you liked the Sherlock Holmes novels, you will also like this one.

The story tickled my funny bone. It was a lighthearted mystery. It reminded me in some ways, of the old time movies of Nick and Nora Charles.

Elementary, my dear reader! If you enjoy Sherlock Holmes, you will love this story. Framed for murder, authors Homes and Watkins must collaborate and use the skills they’ve honed as Sherlock Holmes authors to solve this mystery. A few red herrings kept me guessing as to the actual culprit in this fast paced whodunnit. I very much enjoyed this novel and do hope this continues as a series.
I received a copy of this book for an honest review.

I was a little worried at first about the whole Sherlock Holmes theme but it turned out to be a good fun mystery. Homes & Watkins indeed. I liked how the story alternated between their points of view, and the romance involved was most definitely not smut. Can't wait for more of their adventures, or at least more from this author combo!

Even though Sheryl Homes and Mark Watkins are not detectives, they use techniques from Sherlock Holmes mysteries to solve several murders. I highly recommend this book!!
