A Year of Puttery Treats Kindle Edition

4.6 4.6 out of 5 stars 55 ratings

Welcome to A Year of Puttery Treats. One gorgeous, life-enhancing little something to do for each of the 365 days in the year.

Housekeeping you see, can be terribly dull. A monotonous round of chasing dirt and moving objects that we should seek to enhance with the kind of decorative little to-do’s that gladden the heart and help to bring both order and authenticity in to our homes.

While the treats vary from the pretty to the silly, the fragrant and the celebratory, they are each designed to remind us that keeping house is about more than getting busy with a vacuum and a duster and should instead be about enhancing the lives of those that live in our homes. In reflecting the soul of the Mistress of the house and marking the lives of those she shares it with, puttery treats are quite the most lovely way to ritualise life within our own four walls and more than that to celebrate the art of homemaking and bring joy to domesticity.

In a Year of Puttery treats you will find seasonal tasks and little to-dos for annual holidays and national celebrations. You will discover ways to journal your days and create a living museum of family life. You will find tiny pampering treats and scrubby housekeeping tips, and in the midst of it all, right there in the heart of your home you will find yourself…

Packed with tips for making housekeeping and living in said house more pleasant by a mile. What's really nice about this is a couple things. Many of the entries are habits that are permanently adoptable, and second nature once you pick 'em up. Also they're accessible for those low on time, energy, mobiliity, or money. And finally there's one entry for every single day of the year so no matter what kind of day you're having, you can see if there's something uplifting and special there. Give this one a try.

I have found some great ideas in this book since downloading it; however, be forewarned that it is a bit dated. It sounds like something geared for the 50's housewife. Yet, I have taken a few of those dated ideas and turned them on their head to get a more modern usage.

Many great ideas, delightful descriptions, and inspiring thoughts on creating scrumptious (the most used word in the book, I think!) memories, traditions and treats. The author, like me, appears to have been inspired by Alexandra Stoddard, Martha Stewart and others to create a beautiful life. She takes it a step further by providing ideas anyone can do at low cost or without a lot of time. I’m going to immediately read her other books, this was such a pleasure. I wish she was my neighbor, I’d love to have tea with her!
