I’ve had to take some time to marinate on this one before I could leave my review. Emilia has this amazing ability to leave you completely speechless. Her writing abilities & imagination are superb. She breaks you down to tears, brings you back to happiness, makes you laugh, leaves you with butterflies (which I am still currently feeling hours after finishing), & she makes you feel the intensity, tension, & pure love between all of her characters. THAT my friends, takes pure talent!!!

Angelo & Laine’s story is a heartbreaking, gut wrenching turn of events with a fairy tale ending. Ang’s patience, determination, & intense love is uncanny. All of the different aspects of his personality make for the perfect match for Laine. They are both so perfectly broken that only they can fix each other. The pure love displayed between Laine & Jess, Jess & Kane, even Kane & Laine, & also Kane & Ang is just so heartwarming. The trust & bromance formed just makes me smile. This foursome of characters is probably one of my favorite groups of characters of all time. They’re so goofy together, experience serious moments together, & you truly experience the love & protectiveness they feel for each other.

You know it’s good when you read the author note at the end & it brings you to tears. Not to mention, just writing this review, I have all the feels & am fighting tears right now. Not necessarily tears of sadness but just bc this book is so epically good. (Which should be a absolutely no surprise)

Every single one of Emilia’s books are close to my heart & her characters are truly part of my family. Because of her amazing writing, beautifully relatable characters, her absolutely BEAUTIFUL personality, & her Crew, I have been able to find one of the most amazing group of women, some of whom I truly call some of my best friends ❤️❤️❤️. (Isn’t it amazing when printed words on paper about fictional characters brings people together)

Can’t say enough about the Emilia Finn Series. Loved this author enough that I’m going to my first ever Book Signing Event just for her!
Start at the beginning with the Rollin On Series! Should read all of the Series to understand the characters. Checkmate is grittier, darker but oh, so much more! (and Ang has seen it all...from Rollin On, Survivor to his own story...) Next to Kane, Ang has my heart.!
While the stories might come across as being all about “hot men and women in intimate situations and dropping of the “*f*” bomb…the reality is that the characters and storytelling are all about the meaning of Family, Loyalty and Love. Then re-read all of them again and maybe even a third time - because Emilia Finn is a brilliant, sneaky author! She is an author that values and respects all the roles that men and women have to maneuver through in our social world today; her perspective is invaluable. The stories won’t solve all the world’s problems but makes the burden lighter while we try to.

...or more! I'm a voracious, very eclectic reader. Literally Fantasy, Space Science Fiction, Military, Law Enforcement Thrillers/Mysteries to Regency and the Paranormal. Throw in Classic Darcy and Anne of Green Gables. Yes, I'm current on the Outlander novels. My family has been involved in law enforcement, the military and martial arts. Emilia covers it all!
I started with Pawns In The Bishop’s Game of the Checkmate Series and followed with the Rollin On Series when I realized Rollin started it all!. On to the Survivor Series to get the whole picture. l love, love the Rollin On Crew. But Pawns ... Kane ... well.. Sealed the deal! OMG! I'm re-reading all the series' before reading Checkmate’s Rise Of The King. Laughing and crying and seeing so much more in the characters and storytelling. Ya know it’s bad when I’m following the author on Face Book. Five stars for them all! I don't look for editing errors but do blink a few times when I come across them. The author works with a great group of people to ensure a smooth read. There are some amazing, gifted writers out there who deserve to have their visions and stories told.
(Maybe I'd better hurry up in my re-reading (going for a 4th re-read of whole series.)but wanted to leave this review before I was buried in the stories again.)
There are only a few authors that I sincerely want to see in every format-hardbound to audio. This author is one I hope to see in those other formats.
These novels do contain mature subject matter, sexual content, violence, profanity, and scenes that may trigger strong feelings.
If not for the E-reader our house would be wall-to-wall books with narrow pathways. Thanks to Kindle Unlimited or we'd be eating Ramen and drinking only water!.

I didn’t enjoy this one as much as the first. It simply may have been the subject matter. It was well written and deeply thought out. You seen a caterpillar blossom into a butterfly on the pages. It was an emotional journey to read about. Not usually my style but it was written so well that it captivated me and kept me reading.

Emilia is one of my favorite authors and she didn't disappoint when it came to this book. I knew going into this book that it was going to be heavy and incredibly heart wrenching but it was so much more than that. Ang & Laine's story by far is the most emotional story that Emilia has written. I read this book in one sitting and was left so raw and happy at the end. This book is a rollercoaster to get through. Laine is so strong for getting herself out of that pit of despair with all of the love and support she has from Ang, Jess, Kane, and the rest of her family. Ang is such an amazing person for doing everything it took to help the person who he loves the most overcome the hardest thing that has happened to her. Their story & development were written so amazingly well. Although I hate Graham and wish he had never really been in the book, that scene in the beginning was gold and felt so good to read. Thank you Emilia for writing a story that focuses so heavily on mental illness, depression, suicide, and abuse. It is so rare to find that as such a focal point in a romance novel, it was done exceptionally well.

Second book in series, continues on from last scene in book 1, Pawns. This follows the story of Laine, the twin sister. Very emotional story, but again well written with a balanced content. Laine has been a victim of abuse, it reveals very quickly, although not surprising (if you have read book 1) some of things her partner has done to her without her consent and "bullied" her into doing. The story progresses to when she can move on with the help of her family and very special friend.

Another amazing book from the always amazing Emilia Finn. Although at times, it was a little hard to read, I still soldier on through. The story between Laine and Angelo is so heartbreaking to start with but before you know it everything falls in to place and they find each other in the end. Another book of Emilia’s that I’ll most definitely reread later on. On to the next one I go.
