From the Publisher

If your twin sibling were in danger, would you know? Twins Shayna and Angela were incredibly close—but then their parents died and Angela moved to Paris. Over time they slowly began to grow apart. When she finds out Angela has been murdered, Shayna travels to Paris to pack up her sister’s apartment, where she finds a note from her sister, a note telling her she’s still alive. Then whose body is in the morgue?

Shayna recognizes she can’t trust anyone. Terrified, but determined to learn the truth, Shayna navigates the underbelly of Paris, using her shoddy French while avoiding the local police. As bodies pile up and she digs deeper into her sister’s disappearance, Shayna begins to learn things about Angela, things she doesn’t quite understand.

Marr’s depiction of Paris brings to life the sights and smells of the city, immersing me in the story and setting in a way that felt so real. The chilling suspense took me not only on a trip through the streets of Paris but also into the hearts of broken sisters whose bond might just set them both free.

More twists and turns than a Latin Quarter street
It takes a special skill as a writer to build an immersive world while creating a suspenseful plot that will keep readers on their toes. THE MISSING SISTER will transport you to Paris and take you on an unforgettable journey through Montmartre, the Catacombs, and the city’s underground nightclub scene. Experiencing Paris through Shayna’s eyes was a sensory experience. This book was written by an author who spent a great deal of time in Paris, and it shows. As Shayna investigates the disappearance and supposed murder of her estranged twin sister, the plot takes as many twists and turns as a Latin Quarter street. The mystery was well-crafted and kept me guessing right up until the end! Elle Marr perfectly portrays the contentious-but-loving bond between sisters as she lays the groundwork for Shayna’s quest. Her determination to find out what happened to her sister demonstrates the deepconnection Shayna has with her twin—and how much she’ll risk for that love. This was a great story and I can’t wait to read more from Elle Marr!

This was a twisty whirlwind. Angela said for Shayna not to trust anyone, and she was absolutely right. Searching for her missing sister in a foreign country where she doesn't fluently speak the language, Shayna should be leery of everyone. However, she'll have to trust just a little if she's ever to navigate the city, her sister's frequented spots, and break down what he sister was researching.

This is a great story that is a bit complicated to follow. As the story builds towards the ending it gets real good.

Elle Marr tells the story of twin sisters, nefarious dealings, deaths, and the catacombs of Paris in her debut mystery, The Missing Sister. She gathers plenty of action and plot points, with a unique cast of characters in an iconic city. Mix it up, and you’ve got a successful read!

Shayna Darby arrives in Paris, but not for vacation. Instead, she must identify her twin sister’s body. And she’s thrown off by more than the 9-hour time change from their San Diego home. Her twin, named Angela, is first presumed missing and then found floating in the Seine River. Not an easy introduction to Paris for Shayna.
Upon her arrival, Shayna starts encountering a varied group of folks—from an American Embassy intern to Angela’s most recent boyfriend. The landlady pops her head out briefly, and Shayna is still out of sorts with emotion and travel.

Amazingly, she finds a message that could only be meant for her. Trust. No. One.

Sorting out the truth and determining her sister’s fate is all Shayna can do now. In a city she doesn’t know, and in a language she doesn’t speak.

My conclusions
Angela and Shayna have a challenging relationship, just like many siblings. The history between them, told from only one perspective, complicates everything about Shayna’s hunt for the truth. When all that history starts to bleed into the story, Marr gets a bit bogged down.

There’s also an extended section in the middle that was ridiculously frustrating! Shayna is about enter medical school. She parades into the story with smarts and analysis skills. And then it all goes south as she flounders about. Yes, she is solving a complex mystery with literally one slim clue. But nothing about her search is methodical or logical. Suddenly the “logical twin” is stuck in emotional quagmire.

What I loved about the story was the unique characters. Marr gives Angela’s landlady a shadow of a back story that made me fall in love with her. (Please write a book about her story next!) The French Inspector is brusque and stern, while the Embassy intern offers Shayna a chance to connect with her emotions. Angela has good friends who want to help. And then there’s the boyfriend, who cries tears of pain and helps Shayna sort through the apartment. I couldn’t stop thinking, “What if this person or that person is the bad guy?”

Marr puts the puzzle together with last minute surprises and some unique connections to history. Speaking of history, I wanted the locations in Paris to be more evocative and almost a character unto themselves. Despite setting many scenes in the famous Catacombs, the rest of the city just didn’t sparkle with its true distinctiveness.

Still, if you like a sibling-related mystery and some armchair travel, this is a fun ride. I’ll definitely keep a watch for more books from Elle Marr.

Novelist Elle Marr draws you in quickly with suspense and well thought out story line that will keep you guessing where the story will conclude. Never been physically to Paris or the catacombs but after this read I fell I've mentally been there thru her expertly written words that touch all the human senses.
What a great story.

Shayna Darby receives a horrifying message that no one ever wants to hear - your sister is dead, come to Paris. For Shayna, this is not the first time death has arrived with no warning. Her parents died in a terrible car wreck just three years ago. She and twin sister Angela have been estranged ever since. Full of regret at not having mended their relationship, Shayna travels to Paris to retrieve her sister's belongings. Imagine her shock when, after arriving in her sister's apartment, she finds a message written in a secret language that only twins can decode indicating that her sister is alive and that she should trust no one.

To me, that shocking beginning was the most enjoyable part of the book. The long reveal of several imbedded mysteries almost caused me to lose interest. Every person Shayna meets must be regarded with suspicion because they fall into that rather sweeping category of "no one" that can be trusted. Of course, she does rely on locals for help. Is she associating with the wrong people? If her sister was targeted, will she be mistaken to be her by a killer who will try to finish the job?

One group of readers for whom I can enthusiastically recommend this book would be for lovers of Paris. Shayna's sister was researching the Catacombs, which lends a macabre setting to much of the action. Other famous venues came into play, including the Sorbonne, The Cathedral of Notre Dame, and the Eiffel Tower. Throw in some cafes and a brothel tour, and readers will enjoy a tourist's whirlwind journey through the City of Lights. Far from fun, Shayna's stay is nothing but dangerous from the moment she arrives.

I grew frustrated with Shayna's lack of detective skills. I guess I am spoiled by the unrealistic sleuthing abilities of the characters in some of the cozy mysteries I read. If readers can hang in until the end, it got pretty good. I was surprised at who was behind the murders and what the motivation was. I was a little underwhelmed with the rationale for the sisters' estrangement, but it explained how their failure to communicate complicated their lives unnecessarily. I will read other books by author Elle Marr.

Good mystery and story line, love the sisterly bond and how it kept you guessing as to who the culprit was. The author did a good job laying clues and foreshadowing events throughout the story

4.0 out of 5 stars Well done!

Like many people, I've always been fascinated by twins and any extra perceptions about each other they may have. I grew up with several, some identical, some fraternal, and always felt they had a "differentness." This book explores that in a very interesting way. I was unsure about who to trust, just as Shayna was and found the various twists and turns to be well done.

2.0 out of 5 stars A real " let down" . Difficult to finish reading.

I was disappointed in this book. I found it entirely far fetched. At first I liked the main characters, the twins and enjoyed reading descriptions of the famous historic landmarks around Paris, but then they became repetitious. The bonding and closeness between the twins had obviously become eroded over the past few years. A reader could almost pick who the real villain was right from the start. Although both the twins were supposed to be highly intelligent, I found I had to really question this at times.
