Ten Things My Husband Hated: a Saffron Sweeting novel Kindle Edition
Maggie Moone is happily divorced.
And with her talent for fixing things, she’s perfectly content with her mundane life in the sleepy English village of Saffron Sweeting. That is, until one humiliating March evening when she learns everyone else assumes she’d love to mend her broken marriage.
Determined to prove them wrong, Maggie and her friends concoct a list of ten ways to assert her independence and live large. But her mission to move on leads to unexpected encounters, and Maggie soon finds herself mixing business with pleasure. Is the attractive young Irishman just another item on her list, or is he something more?
Before long, unresolved issues from her past begin to clash, and Maggie is forced to wonder if antagonising her ex-husband was such a stellar idea.
No sooner does she begin to understand what’s important to her, than she stands to lose everything that truly matters.
This is the fourth in the collection of Saffron Sweeting romantic comedies, which can be read in any order. If you like gentle British humour and deliciously resilient heroines, you’ll love Ten Things My Husband Hated.

Maggie grew from a somewhat flaky, weak person who was still hanging on to her past to a strong, decisive woman who knew what she needed to do to become the new Maggie Moone. She displayed compassion and forgiveness for her ex and his new wife in place of her feelings of anger and jealousy. She learned to love for the real reason and when she realized this love, she blossomed. Maggie went through a lot of pain and a lot of growing up and nearly lost Finn, an earnest young Irishman. If I had to choose a favorite character it would be Finn. I loved his choices of what to do on a date.
There were quite a few supporting characters who were all as beautifully fleshed out as the main characters. The story moved smoothly and kept my interest. In fact, I couldn’t put this book down.
Mortified that others think she’s still hung up on her ex-husband, Maggie, along with her pals Amelia, Grace, and American Nancy, comes up with a list of things her ex hated. By checking these items off her list, she hopes to prove that she has truly moved on. But it’s hard to relinquish one’s entire past, especially in a small town like Saffron Sweeting.
This is women’s fiction that both sexes will enjoy. And while the writing is clever and witty, the story gets serious and delves deeper into emotions. The author is a brilliant writer and can paint a scene with words that will have you feel you’re right in the middle of the lovely village.
Highly recommended!
The characters are quirky, funny and believable. Easy to read, the time just flew! I hadn't read any of Pauline Wiles' books before but seeing as there is a whole series set in Saffron Sweeting, I'll be reading those as well!
P.S. I was given a free copy to review this book - and it was worth the effort!
This one, light-hearted and witty as all in the series, also has serious storylines that provide mystery and some tense moments. It is a well crafted story with characters readers can really care about. Let's hope Pauline Wiles doesn't keep us waiting too long for the next one!
When I first started reading this book, it wasn’t holding my attention. The main character of Maggie was a bit wimpy for me. However, as the story moved on, she started getting stronger and I started enjoying the story more. I loved the character of Finn. He had me at the dream catcher scene which I won’t spoil for future readers of this story.
The village of Saffron Sweeting was another character in the book. You could easily see and feel the atmosphere of what it would be like to live in Saffron Sweeting. That tone, set the book up for a simple, but sweet story about new beginnings and love.
I wish the author had made the “list” meatier and more interesting. The story would have been so much better if Maggie had really committed herself to the list and tried to change her life. As it was, it felt like she was just stumbling into the situations that let her cross something off her list. Having said that, the author did pull the story together by the final quarter of the book, which is why I’m giving it 3 stars instead of 2.
Thank you to Library Thing and Pauline Wiles for the opportunity to read this ARC.
main character relate-able. She is so ready to prove that she is over her ex and the divorce that she ends up finding that maybe there is more to heal from then just a broken marriage. And maybe it wasn't love she had. This book is a coming of age, mystery, romance, and girl power novel all in one. I would recommend it

I have thoroughly enjoyed all the books in the Saffron Sweeting series, but I think this is my favourite so far. I really felt connected with Maggie, and invested in her journey. There were some really good plot twists, and I loved how the story unfolded. It's the kind of book that leaves you feeling uplifted when you finish it - but sad to leave the characters behind.
Although it is part of a series, the books in the Saffron Sweeting series certainly don't have to be read 'in order'. The author has made it easy to immerse yourself in this gentle saga, no matter where you start. So if 10 Things My Husband Hated appeals, you could definitely read it first, and then read the rest of the series afterwards. I am certain you will want to!
A gentle, uplifting read, 10 Things My Husband Hated is perfect for anglophiles, immersing the reader in the life of a small fictional British village in East Anglia. Highly recommended.

It doesn't matter if you miss one, as each novel is complete on its own.
Ten Things my Husband Hated is a great read. You get a real glimpse into the typical village life in Britain.
I recognised the habits, how people interact with each other , and that wonderful sense of humour.
I loved Maggie, the main character. She's not perfect, she hasn't got it all together: she's beautifully vulnerable and kind. As a reader, you deeply care about what happens to her.
There were several unexpected twists in the plot which kept me wanting to read more.
When you really like a book, you don't want it to end. And that's how I felt while I was reading this novel.
And the end didn't disappoint.
A really great story.
