Connection Training: The Heart and Science of Positive Horse Training Kindle Edition
Connection Training's approach creates the best experience for the horse, based on the science of learning and equine emotions. We focus on building positive emotions around you and the training, such as relaxation, confidence and willingness. These emotions create safe, happy horses who are a joy to train, ride and handle.
In this book, you will learn:
> How emotions drive your horse's behaviour and why training from an emotional perspective makes so much sense.
> How to solve problems in handling, healthcare and loading.
> How to teach healthy postural engagement through gymnastic groundwork in a fun and positive way your horse will love.
> How to make riding rewarding, safe and fun for both of you.
Following the guidance in this book, you can solve your problems, achieve your goals and create a wonderful equine partner for life.
"Connection Training has transformed my life with horses after 30+ years of ownership. The focus is on your connection with the horse and that is what I have been searching for all this time! Once you get that then trust builds and suddenly all things seem possible."
Lynne Hockney UK
"As a clinical animal behaviourist and university lecturer I am regularly asked for recommended reading around equine training and the science behind it; this text would definitely be on my essential reading list. Crafted into a volume that seamlessly combines the science of behavioural ethology with the practice of training, this book consistently champions the ultimate aim; to provide optimally for the welfare of our domesticated equines in all our interactions with them."

- Reviewed in the United States on December 5, 2019I love to read and research horse training methods and ideologies, and have for 15+ years. That being said, this book is the most thorough, honest, and clear example of what horsemanship should be that I have ever found. Every horse lover, owner, or enthusiast should buy and read this book regardless of previous skills as it is eye opening, and has something to teach everyone. The teaching is presented in a scientific way that is easy to understand and apply, and useful in all that we do with our horses. I completely recommended this book!

- Reviewed in the United States on March 12, 2025I could not be more complimentary of this book if I tried! Connection Training's approach to horse training puts the horse first in a way I have never seen before. This approach has quite literally been life-changing for me and my horse - I went from a reactive horse who kept bucking me off to a calm, willing and gentle horse who loved to train with me. :)
- Reviewed in the United States on March 10, 2020for those beginning with horses, a must read. Lots of hints. I wish that they would put material on horses that are not food driven but it is mostlly about food. one of my horses has become a pocket thief so I am backing off. The other is totally not interested in food. If she takes food it is a "hello" to you and that is thta
- Reviewed in the United States on January 25, 2020This book is excellent. It goes further and explains things better than the other r+ training books that I have found. Hands down, the best for the beginner. Really helps you understand and see what to do. Once you’ve read this, get the new kurland “the click the teaches.” Then get out there and find a new relationship with your horse.

It's a gold mine of information and explanations linked to online video resources that based on both science and real world experience. A great value. Highly Recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars Must have!
This is THE book for those who are on the path of or wish to switch to positive reinforcement. Based on the neurological science of mammalian emotions, this goes way beyond mere clicker training. Clear and practical explanations (combined with video links), fluently written, it rekindles your love for what horse training should be all about: having fun and enjoying each other's company.

5.0 out of 5 stars A fabulous, comprehensive book
I don't very often write reviews but just had to write one for this book. I purchased it a couple of weeks ago and am still only part way through, but am blown away by the sheer amount of content. I've read a few books which seem to spend a lot of time at the beginning talking about all the things the book is going to tell me which can be frustrating, but this one jumps right in with fascinating but easy to grasp behavioural science.
It is so comprehensive. As I've been reading, whenever I've found myself thinking "I wonder how I should approach X" or "I wonder what to do if this happens" the answer is pretty much always covered somewhere else in the book. I really like the fact it's to a certain extent a book about clicker training, but the real focus is on building connection, so it's not all about the connection with your horse just being based on food. The importance of self awareness and breathing etc is mentioned and it covers some thought provoking concepts which I now try to keep in mind when I am working with my horse.
I've struggled in the past with all of the methods out there, knowing which one to go along with, how to approach things, and I think there is definitely something to be said for looking at different techniques and analysing their place in your relationship with your horse so I will continue to do this, but I'd say this book, being so comprehensive as it is and with such a focus on a compassionate way to build connection with your equine, is a fantastic foundation so to speak (and beyond - that's not to say what is covered in this book is basic and stops there!) Highly reccommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Das zur Zeit beste Buch zum Thema Pferdetraining

5.0 out of 5 stars Connection is everything!
Since I’ve begun clicker/positive reinforcement training I’ve seen amazing results, but there were issues cropping up that none of my other books addressed. They are all great books, but this one filled in the fine detail that I needed to help resolve many problems. Mainly-How to deal with my own fear/anxiety and not allow myself to go over threshold. This book has made a huge difference in my understanding of WHY we are using positive reinforcement and getting to the root of the behaviour not just the symptom. Connection is everything! I believed I had a good connection prior to this but our relationship has deepened to a point that I feel so close and in synch. She has a lot to say and I’m finally listening and honouring what she is telling me. I love this book. It’s a must have for anyone starting out on their positive reinforcement training journey. Your horse will thank you for it.
