★★★★★ This is a great, easy read! "He hooks you into the story from the get go by giving you enough information to care about what's going on, but not so much that the detail of the elements of the story turns the reader off to the story itself."

★★★★★ Could not put this book down! "This was a great read! I could not put this book down. Each time I would think, I'll just stop after this chapter - there was another cliff hanger and I had to keep going."

I'm Cliff Hamrick, an author of fiction and non-fiction. My storytelling journey began when I was nine years old and started playing Dungeons and Dragons with my friends. We were too young to understand the rules, but the seed of telling exciting stories with characters that grew and developed over time was planted.

I began writing my own fiction as a way to tell stories in the genres that I love to read: fantasy, horror, and science fiction. My biggest influences are the 'weird' scifi and sword & sorcery stories from R.E. Howard, H.P. Lovecraft, E.R. Burroughs, and R.W. Chambers.

My non-fiction is related to my career as a counselor. Not only do I have a Masters of Arts in Counseling, but also a Masters of Science in Biology. My first career was in biology where I taught at Baylor University as well as worked on various textbooks.

I still work as a counselor in private practice in Austin, TX where I work with clients struggling with addictions, depression, and anxiety. My interests are as varied as my background. I love the outdoors and hiking in one of the greenest cities in the state. I stay active by practicing yoga multiple times a week. But, I also enjoy visiting the gun range and shooting small bits of lead through pieces of paper.

Please visit my website www.cliffhamrickwrites.com where you can join my reader's list and receive a free deleted scene from my first novel, Saga of the Scout.

Here are some reviews of my work:

"The tales are swashbuckling without becoming improbable, fantastic without becoming cliché, and, overall, satisfyingly entertaining..." Schlock! Webzine

"Hamrick sets up a number of fascinating scenarios in a classic sword and sorcery setting full of strange and horrific monsters and cosmic powers." ResAliens Blog

I found this book by way of the author posting about it in a group I'm in. I followed the link, as I often do when authors promote their own work, expecting - as usual - to just pan another "end of the world" book and move on. But this author does what I think is way too lacking in many self published authors today, he hooks you into the story from the get go by giving you enough information to care about what's going on, but not so much that the detail of the elements of the story turns the reader off to the story itself.

I read through the first 5 chapters here on Amazon and wanted more, so at his discounted price this book is a steal! I've had the book for less than 24 hours and have read almost half of it so far, it's a page turner for sure. I wouldn't be surprised to see this as a movie or TV show one day. Good stuff, worth the price and time :)

This is not my typical genre but hey we are in the midst of a pandemic so what did I have to lose? LOL I was pleasantly surprised. This concept would normally seem far fetched but the underlying meaning is totally relatable in these times. Besides that this book is beautifully written. The author does a very good job at making you want to keep reading to find out what is going to happen. It is full of suspense, and the imagery makes you feel like you are right there. Plus I love that its based in TX. I would highly recommend buying this!

This is my first time reading anything by this author. The blurb and book cover are interesting and it’s what attracted me to get the book. The author has done a good job drawing the reader in from the get-go.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This was a great read! I could not put this book down. Each time I would think, I'll just stop after this chapter - there was another cliff hanger and I had to keep going. I am seriously looking forward to Book 2 in the Saga. The main character and his friends are very likable and have very distinct personalities from one another. There is a fully fledged main story, but there are also these wonderful layers to it that make this good versus evil, apocalyptic adventure deeper and more interesting as the story progresses. The personal growth/changes in Ethan from the beginning of the book to the end were also very satisfying to me as a reader. Hurry up and write the next book so I can see what additional adventures Ethan has in store for him! Thoroughly enjoyed it from start to finish.

When this book is made into a movie, it will be rated R for violence and sexual content. The action starts right away! Almost as soon as the book begins, you are in the thick of the turmoil right along with the main character. I felt immediately concerned for Ethan, the hero, and curious about what is happening around him. The author takes you through the story right alongside Ethan and the world seems to unfold (or unravel) with the reader and Ethan at the same time. The end of the book is definitely not the end of the story, looking forward to what will happen to Ethan next.

I read as much as I could. I did not care for the writing. It lacked for me, the style was lacking. It seems like the style is for juveniles. I wanted to like the story, but its so violent and graphic from the get go I was not able to identify with any of the characters. I cant identify with the many victims either, there is nothing to make me feel for them. The story starts out with so much action, like a movie, I know that is why movies are so violent cause they need to hook the audience right away with the story. A problem is revealed, and a hero goes to fix it, that did not occur for many many pages where there was so much violence I couldn't read. A movie maybe this should be a movie the audience can relate to the action up front, shocking them into submission. But a book like that, I simply could not get into the style.

Ethan Swain thinks he's on an educational jaunt with his dad and his sister to a wildlife preserve. The three of them make it there, but what happens next is crucial to all of them. As a premiere novel, SAGA OF THE SCOUT sends the reader reeling from one shocking event to the next. Cliff Hamrick knows how to pace himself to give the characters a good chance to develop as well. Nothing is lacking in this adventure, and you will be anxious to see what comes next in the "A New Age Rises" series. A must read!
