4.1 4.1 out of 5 stars 4,070 ratings

This is how the world ends: with a single snowflake.

After a tragic accident at work, all Grady Miller wanted was an escape. He finds it months later with two of his closest friends. Together, the three of them travel south to Prism Lake for the upcoming holiday, where they plan on spending the sunny weekend drinking, grilling, and relaxing.

But when a series of monstrous blizzards cover the eastern United States in feet of snow, knocking out communications and making the roads impossible to drive on, they realize their weekend of fun could turn into a lifetime of survival.

Because there’s something out there besides the cold…

Something sinister…

So I really enjoyed reading this. I wasn't too sure what it was about when I started it but the writing is very smooth and I quickly fell into the story. The fact that one character named Stone is in crutches gives the others a bigger challenge later as things get really cold and the snow comes. But its not just the snow - it's July 4th and there is a blizzard raging. And there are things out in the snow too! I stayed up as late as I could last night reading this as I was totally hooked.

The only other thing I will add here is in the back of my mind I kept thinking "This is in Ohio. They should be able to handle snow." Yeah, its coming at the wrong time but they have plows and stuff. I do wonder how the cities are handling the snow? The story takes place at a very rural lake after all so... The things in the snow... That is another problem!! But if a book makes me start to think, that's a good sign.

Oh and I am also wondering what caused the snow? Will the story ever say? Where did the things in the snow come from? Oh and I am reading this while we have colder than average temps here! Haha.

I am going to read book #2 now...

OK, we've read the first two novels and they were well done with great character development BUT there was little progression in the stories. We are expected to read a total of (5) novels to find out what happens to our characters caught up with in a new ice age. These books are all short with lots of double spacing etc to make them even shorter. The author could have written just one blockbuster novel and been done with it. I'm not going to bother to read anymore of the same-o, same-o. There are too many good books out there to spend time in redundant situations that never seem to go anywhere.

I bought this short novel because the premise sounded interesting. I don't really care for "supernatural" tales, but I was curious. It was a fairly easy read, especially because the writing style seemed a bit sophomoric. One could argue that the similes and metaphors are simple and straightforward. And after all, how many different ways can you describe that it's damned cold? It's difficult to really care about characters that have only ~200 pages to develop, so I couldn't really care if they stayed safe or met the next challenge. The foreshadowing was like a 2 x 4, and the cover says it's part of a series, so I didn't really expect much resolution. If you want a quick read of a story with an interesting premise, the Kindle version is inexpensive. But I don't think I will be reading the next in the series.

Great characters and compelling story. I do not like cliff hangers but this one was not too bad. I just know there is more I want to read. It is worth it.

Don’t be deterred because of the 4 stars, I only give 5 to books that blow me away, which doesn’t happen often. Just finished the 3rd book of the Carver series (which I hope isn’t the end) and started this one today and it is a good start. It didn’t take long to get into it which I like and I like the characters. I recommend.

I really enjoyed the book. I thought it was written well and the characters were likeable.

Some friends decide to get away for a weekend 4th of July holiday at the lake in Ohio. Grady, his buddies, Stone, and Jonas met each other up at the lake cabin. They had rented a cheap lake cabin. All was fun and having a good time until....

A sudden snow storm hits the earth or so it seems. With no contact to the outside world our friends, Grady, Stone, and Jonas are stuck at a lake house in July. Snow so deep one, could get lost in it. On top of it all there is strange beings out there in the dark.

Is this the end of the world or just a crazy freaky snowstorm that hit in July. It's known to happen in these neck of the woods.

Read the story to find out more adventure, and if the boys get rescued or if the snow will ever melt!

The apocalypse, the supernatural, and monsters? Can one actually mix all this chaos? Why not! Honestly, I couldn’t ask for more. Loved every second of this book. Definitely my ideal read.

Grady Miller and his buddies think they’re going to have a getaway weekend at the Prism Lake. A monster of a snowstorm cuts them off from all contact from the outside world. After a series of paranormal occurrences, it becomes apparent that the storm is not normal. Something horrible has happened to the world. While facing real-life monsters, Grady must push on while dealing with his own personal demons.

The Snow is packed with all the spooks, action, and realistic characters. Loved Grady and his good friends. The dialogue exchange between the guys really moved the story along nicely. Just a couple of guys hanging out, talking about life, joking around. Ah, I loved those moments and got way too attached to them.

The story concept might be a stretch for some, but to me, this was horror fiction at its best. It takes some of your deepest fears, throws them into a pot, and gives it a good shake. I’m not too big on series either, but this is a series I’m eager to finish.

Favorite quote:

“Things went south more often than they went north. Maybe you don’t agree, but I’ll tell you my personal observation. Things aren’t easy, we just get stronger. And when we get stronger, things only seem easier.”

I really enjoyed this book, I felt like everything flowed very well and the author did an incredible job making you care about the characters and describing just how frigid it was. My only problem was that it felt as if it were cut short. Of course there are more books in this series that I look forward to checking out but it definitely felt as if I were cut off mid story.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great book for post apocalyptic fans
Reviewed in Canada on November 3, 2020
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and the concept as it is just slightly different than most of the post apocalyptic books out there. I am currently on book 4 of this series but this was the one that caught my attention right from the start. Snow on July 4th ?? That can't be good, right? and it just gets worse from that point. A great series so far and although the characters aren't very deep, you do feel like you are there with them and when you step back , you are wondering how they get out of the next situation and get where they are going.
Pick up this series, you won't be sorry !!
