Fortune and Glory: Tantalizing Twenty-Seven (Stephanie Plum Book 27) Kindle Edition

4.6 4.6 out of 5 stars 29,496 ratings

From “the most popular mystery writer alive” (The New York Times), the twenty-seventh thrilling entry in the #1 New York Times bestselling series isn’t just the biggest case of Stephanie Plum’s career. It’s the adventure of a lifetime.

When Stephanie’s beloved Grandma Mazur’s new husband died on their wedding night, the only thing he left her was a beat-up old easy chair…and the keys to a life-changing fortune.

But as Stephanie and Grandma Mazur search for Jimmy Rosolli’s treasure, they discover that they’re not the only ones on the hunt. Two dangerous enemies from the past stand in their way—along with a new adversary who’s even more formidable: Gabriela Rose, a dark-eyed beauty from Little Havana with a taste for designer clothes. She’s also a soldier of fortune, a gourmet cook, an expert in firearms and mixed martial arts—and someone who’s about to give Stephanie a real run for her money.

Stephanie may be in over her head, but she’s got two things that Gabriela doesn’t: an unbreakable bond with her family and a stubborn streak that will never let her quit.

She’ll need both to survive because this search for “fortune and glory” will turn into a desperate race against time with more on the line than ever before. Because even as she searches for the treasure and fights to protect her Grandma Mazur, her own deepest feelings will be tested—as Stephanie could finally be forced to choose between Joe Morelli and Ranger.

Review

"Lorelei King is back narrating the latest in the Stephanie Plum series. For the first time, the audiobook is deemed 'A Novel,' with no installment number in its subtitle. (It's #27.) But not much else has changed in the bounty hunter's world. Fans will find it comforting to revisit Stephanie, Lulu, Morelli, Ranger, Grandma Mazur, Connie, and Stephanie's mother, all masterfully performed by King, who creates a unique voice for each character. Yes, Stephanie explodes cars, and Lulu explodes out of her spandex clothes on their treasure-hunting mission. Evanovich also introduces a new character, Gabriela Rose, a fashion-conscious female Indiana Jones who will be featured in a brand-new series. King's pacing, accents, intonations, and ability to convincingly perform men and women, good guys and bad, keep the series entertaining." ― AudioFile Magazine

A Treasure Awaits!

A Treasure Awaits!
Grandma Mazur gets plenty of action this time around and some new characters in the latest Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich—Fortune and Glory. She has two dead husbands. The custom is to move your wedding band from your left to your right hand. Now she has two rings. But she thinks it is not right to have both of them so close together. Then she notices the dates inside the band from Jimmy, her latest mob husband who died. A clue?Jimmy Roselli was the Keeper of the Keys—Grandma Mazur's mob hubby. Died and left behind 3 keys in a La-Z-Boy chair. There are also, of course, the wedding rings (which may contain a clue or two). Two clues are inside a safe at the Mole Hole (strip club with good burgers). Ace it #1 and Philadelphia #3. If you tried to open the safe without the keys, it's Hiroshima. The keys are needed to open a safe that contains something valuable.Jimmy, a south Jersey guy. He liked the shore. Wildwood, Cape May, and Atlantic City. He liked the slots and poker. So where? Grandma must find the secret treasure with Stephanie's help. It is a dangerous proposition. A safe. Diamonds, money, bodies, or what and where? What did Jimmy leave her? Jimmy's mob friends (6 of them) La-Z-Boys are after the treasure; however, Stephanie and Grandma Mazur are right behind them.Stephanie— has some competition this go around for Morelli and Ranger's attention. As always, she is loyal to her family and her cupcakes. But she is a bounty hunter and surely she can help Grandma find the treasure. But little does she know all the others on the trail.Morelli is kind of out of the picture—at the moment, and it is "game on" for Ranger.Gabriela Rose—A new character. A Latina Wonder woman beauty, Rachel Ray, and GI Ninja rolled into one. (who will star in June 2021 novel And best of all: you get a sneak peek)!George Potts — Stephanie's new bodyguard, geeky sidekick, wingman. Age 37. Unemployed. He is allergic to everything, has PTSD, and lives at home, and plays video games in his PJs.More action and adventure— than ever. With Gabriela, Morelli, and Ranger. La-Z-Boys' Tunnels and the Mole Hole. Comic books—Superman and Uncle Scrooge. Even more cars: blowing up and buildings— (signature). Plus, it wouldn't be Stephanie Plum without some funeral home, caskets, viewings, and cemetery action.Lula is always up for an adventure as long as there is food around, especially chicken and donuts. Love her! Stephanie's Mom— threatening to put Grandam Mazur in an assisted living. Now wouldn't that be a riot and another series in itself!.Stephanie is feeling down. About her love life. Her job. Her apartment. Her inability to cook, shoot, figure out streaming, understand the cloud, or complete any of the books recommended by celebrities. She still has Rex her pet hamster and shared custody with Bob, the golden retriever with on and off again Joe Morelli. But now there is Gabriela. Stephanie thinks she has her hooks into her ex-boyfriend, and now she thinks she is trying to steal her family's treasure.Always the conflict between Ranger vs. Morelli. Plenty of action from Rangers SWAT team: Rangemen. Always some bad boys on the trail.La-Z-Boy(s) —Who knew a chair and good ole boy mob buddies could get so much action? When the journey is as exciting as the destination!Want some laughs and entertainment? Find it here, better than ever! Evanovich always has some surprises up her sleeve. BULLSEYE! Loved this one. Her best yet.Check out the fun Q&A with the Author and more Plum trivia on my blog. #JDCMustReadBooksA special thank you to Atria Books and Netgalley for an advanced reading copy.

This book was my fastest most exciting read of the series so far! I love how it kept me hanging on especially after book 26 led into it. I just thought 26 was good until I met 27! 📚

This story had some very funny situations and I really, really loved Potts! I hope he continues to be a part of the next book in the series. Like all others who read the Stephanie Plum books...Ranger or Morelli, Morelli or Ranger...what a dilemma! I vote for Ranger! He accepts her for who she is....

Love reading Janet's books. They make me laugh and read quickly to see what Stephanie will do next! I grew up in CT, where we had "the neighborhoods". Lived on the east coast and west side of NJ, and know where she is talking about. Want more fabulous glorious Evans icy books!

This book is classic Plum. Lots of action, not as much dumb Lula (smarter and more useful), and a few good laughs.

5.0 out of 5 stars More capers with Stephanie and the gang
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on December 19, 2022
This series isn't really about the crimes and the details of the story, it's a caper of chaotic Stephanie and her band of pals and family. There's also the usual love story with the various suitors who come and go, and come back again. All in all very enjoyable, some laugh out loud moments and a great affection for the characters we know and love from the series. I'd recommend if you want a light hearted read to cheer you on a winter's day or on holiday

Het duurde even voordat ik in het boek kwam. Was weer heel orgineel qua verhaal alleen miste ik een duidelijke richting in haar liefdesleven.

Thoroughly enjoyed Stephanie's latest caper. One niggle, Morelli's aunt who left him the house was his Aunt Rose, not Ruby, broke my concentration! However, as usual, great fun to read.
