Shattered Beliefs (Oceans Apart Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.6 4.6 out of 5 stars 24 ratings

Fort Worth held happiness for most residents, but not Milo Garcia. His experiences tormented him and all he focused on revolved around escaping far away from the God-forsaken town.

He settled on two goals for vanishing from his current reality: the completion of his college degree and convincing his mother to follow him.

He held steady, following the course, until an unexpected new British student shattered his Middletown America.

Tired of living his privileged and shallow existence in rural Cambridgeshire, handsome and smart, Edward Baines-Tennant jetted off to the states, intending on completing his studies, while carving his own path in the world.

On the first day of classes, a chance meeting with a brooding stranger spun his world off its axis and sent him on a course of self-discovery. One which forced his eyes open wide; seeing beyond what presented itself and examining how those less fortunate than himself survived.

Meeting his match in Milo, sparks flew. Common sense told him to leave well alone, but his heart desired something more.

The angsty drama, so many feels and just the right touch of humor.

Two worlds collide between Edward ever so British and Milo a home grown southern Texan. On the surface these two seem worlds apart, literally. Edward wants to go all in as they figure things out even though while Milo isn’t quite so sure he’s ready for “all in” yet.

The great writing starts with the building of their backstories and picks up through the pages at a speedy clip.

Equally as great as the main characters here are their friends Seth and Logan, and I can’t get enough of Edward’s nosy neighbor Diedra bloody Warner! And just as I’m waiting for Edward’s mum to come to town, OMG you are gifted with a very uncalled for cliffhanger! I will now have to stalk them to get the next installment.

Milo and Edward are complete opposites. Milo being a Texas boy, yearning to get out from under his father's reputation of being a star football player. He is unwilling to admit he is gay to his family and himself. Edward the elite propper British student wanting to further his education away from home, while seeing how the other half lives, so to speak. Edward has come out to his family and is completely comfortable in his life, until he meets Milo. They share an instant attraction but experience many issues in their journey. First cultural and social adjustments for Edward and the realization that Milo is not ready to come out to his family. This is not my usual genre but I love these two authors and their writing styles. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and look forward to more from them.

Milo Garcia and Edward Baines-Tennant are on a collision course with destiny in this amazing story of Shattered Beliefs by Maggie Jane Schuler and Mitchell Summers. I loved the way Maggie and Mitchell brought Milo and Edward together...with the slow burn and sexually charged build-up. This book grabs the reader and won't let go until the climatic ending, I can’t wait to see what’s up next. If you haven’t read Shattered Beliefs, one-click today and enjoy the ride.

This book is so well written, from 2 different points of view. The transformation and changes to the characters are refreshing, and I look forward to more about them. I was uncomfortable with the topic to start but ended up rooting for the best outcome and happiness for all involved. It is a true beginning love story for the ages. The trials and hurdles reflect a real-life situation, and tug at the heart strings to make it all better. Both these authors continue to amaze me with their depth and versatility. I look forward too many more reads from both!

Wow. What an emotional story. Edward is a transfer student from the UK and Milo is from Texas and the two collide and what an emotional meeting with it many ups and downs. There are too many secrets not being shared and that is part of the problem. This is a cliffhanger and now we will have to wait until book 2 comes out to see if they will share their secrets. Enjoy

To add in the hate and how some people show their disrespect is such an interesting storyline and makes the characters feel so real.

3.0 out of 5 stars Very mixed up mashup
Reviewed in Italy on April 1, 2022
The use is good, the plot is passable, though rather clichè, but the mixed up development of the character studies leaves a lot to be refinished.
Both the main characters are missing coherency, and even with the excuse of them being young and - relatively - inexperienced, the way each in his own way can't seem to come to terms with their mutual attraction in a coherent manner is slightly offputting. The sad attempt to portray the "Brit" as nob and using/not using the Queen's crown English, as well as the lost opportunity to depict the reality of the poorer hardworking youth Latino descent from a troubled family in any light other than confusing were not well written at all.
Yes, I knew this was a part one of at least a short series, but I won't be continuing it, myself.
