LJ Ross is an international bestselling author, best known for creating atmospheric mystery and thriller novels, including the DCI Ryan series of Northumbrian murder mysteries which have sold over 10 million copies worldwide.

Her debut, Holy Island, was released in January 2015 and reached number one in the Amazon UK and Australian charts. Since then, she has released more than twenty further novels, all of which have been top three global bestsellers and most of which have been UK #1 bestsellers. Louise has garnered an army of loyal readers through her storytelling and, thanks to them, most of her books reached the coveted #1 spot whilst only available to pre-order ahead of release. Her eleventh novel, "The Infirmary", is a prequel story and is also available as a major Audible Originals audio-drama starring Tom Bateman, Kevin Whately, Bertie Carvel, Hermione Norris and Alun Armstrong.

In addition to her DCI Ryan series, Louise has created a new series of thriller novels based around the central character of ‘Dr Alexander Gregory’, whose work as a psychological profiler takes him around the world. The first three books (Impostor, Hysteria and Bedlam) were #1 bestsellers and the fourth book was released in March 2022 (Mania). They were narrated in audio by the actors Hugh Dancy (Impostor & Hysteria) and Richard Armitage (Bedlam & Mania).

"The Cove" (the first book in her new Summer Suspense Mysteries series) was released in 2021 and followed up by "The Creek" in 2022 and "The Bay" in 2023. This is a new series of standalone romantic suspense novels featuring strong female protagonists. "The Haven" will follow in summer 2024.

The novels all are available to purchase in e-book, paperback and audiobook formats on the Amazon store, as well as in libraries and book shops around the world.

Louise was born in Northumberland, England. She studied undergraduate and postgraduate Law at King’s College, University of London and then abroad in Paris and Florence. I really enjoyed this book. The third in the series. I absolutely love the main character. Louise has done an amazing job designing a sympathetic, flawed and likeable protagonist. He is ridden with self-doubt and humility. Two character traits that help fuel his exceptional position as a Psychiatrist. He has compassion and empathy in spades. Obviously, handsome and sadly, broken. But, I think could be mended. He and his mentor make a terrific duo and the plots are intricate and very well crafted. I am thoroughly enjoying Dr. Gregory's adventures in the land of criminal profiling. This is an outstanding series. Not quite British cozy crime. A bit more intense and I highly recommend! I'm off to start book four.

These books are interfering with my sleep! I stayed up all night to read this book. I completed it in about 24 hours. Another fantastic Dr. Alex Gregory book. Still a mystery, although not as hard to figure out as the others. But absolute nail biting suspense! Leaves you hanging by your fingernails. And I have a crush on Dr Alex Gregory.

This is the third thriller I've read now in this series and they just keep getting better! I've been addicted to L J Ross' DCI Ryan mysteries since the first one that I read and so it was hard for me to switch gears over to such a different type of lead character but amazingly, the author is able to switch gears between these two series and I've found that both are very enjoyable in their own ways!

Please write faster L J Ross as I'm reading book after book, being housebound, these days & can't wait till the next enjoyable read! :)

I am a huge fan of LJ Ross. Her novels with Alexander Gregory are wonderfully written, very fast-paced, and entertaining to the last word.

This is the third installment of the Alexander Gregory Thrillers and it can be read as a standalone, but I urge you to read book one and two first, because they are also just brilliant!
Dr Gregory is a well known English forensic psychologist and criminal profiler. He is also a complex character who is battling with his own personal issues.
On this occasion he is helping the FBI solve a case related to the mafia, and he has to go undercover in a private psychiatric hospital, pretending to be a patient, and things get very complicated while he's hospitalised.
I love Gregory's complex, dark character and the way he battles with his own demons, and he seems to be succeeding. I'm glad he found a love interest in this novel, who is more of a possible long-term relationship than his previous female friends in the first two books. Although it is in no way a romance, there is a hint of things to come, and I hope it works out for him.
I preordered the kindle version, but I added the audible version and ended up listening to Richard Armitage's fabulous narration. I can't wait for the next book in the series!

Coming from NYC I was especially interested in this because of the locale. The story was okay, just not as interesting as the first two.

Thank you LJ Ross for taking the time to write two separate and completely different types of novels...both of which have fantastic storylines and really interesting characters. This is my third Alexander Gregory novel to read and I am impressed at how, what seems to be a mundane life of a psychologist, the author manages to make it look so exciting and full of adventure. Great one, LJ! Thank you and can’t wait for the next one!

It was good to have a hero who is far from perfect. I have some experience with psychology and those who need treatment. The plot in general is predictable but the different twists and turns are not. A very entertaining novel.

A great story! Not much just action, but more psychological insight. I read lots of mysteries and thrillers, many are predictable but this one isn't. One of the best stories I ever read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thrilling story - loving learning more about Gregory
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on July 3, 2020
Well what a way to while away my walking hours. Narrated by Richard Armitage, the audiobook of Bedlam is, in a word, brilliant. Full of menace, tension and the usual brilliant combination of character and setting, if you love the Gregory series then you are going to love this. Once again we chip away at the veneer to see the slightly broken man beneath and seeing the continual development of this character makes me very happy.

This time around Gregory and his mentor, Bill Douglas, are in the US as key speakers at a seminar on criminal profiling. Whilst there Gregory receives an offer that is hard to refuse - hard in terms of arms being bent rather than pure indulgence of professional curiosity, although that plays a part too. The case sees him going under cover at a psychiatric hospital in the Catskills, trying to locate a key witness in an FBI investigation. And that is where the fun begins.

If you want to know more about the story then you need to read (or listen to) the book. LJ Ross has created a story in which she has continued to develop the theme of psychological profiling, as well as looking at a myriad of complex psychiatric conditions as we get to meet the many residents of the Buchanan Hospital. From people dealing with addiction, to psychotic breaks, to depression to murder, the people we meet are so varied and real that it is easy to become as engaged in their stories as we do the investigation. Don't get me wrong, the focus is largely on Gregory who finds himself on the other side of the therapist/client relationship. but if you can read the story and not smile or laugh at Kitty Steenberg, then you've no soul. ;)

With so many characters in play there is a real sense of mystery threaded throughout to. It is hard to know who to trust, and in a setting which is a psychiatric hospital, that's not surprising. And when you factor in that the very person Gregory is trying to find more about has very, very deep rooted links to the Mafia, you know that lies are going to be the order of the day. I really enjoyed those elements and hearing the back story behind the Families and the tensions that exist that feed into the plot. It adds an edge and fun but threatening element to the whole affair.

For me the audiobook was very addictive, and I finished in two days. Richard Armitage really brings the story and the characters to life. I will admit that it was a little strange for me as I read books one and two and I guess I had developed an idea in my head of the voice behind the man, but that is often the way with audio. I settled in very quickly though and after just a very short while I was more 'so that's what he sounds like' than 'that's not Gregory.'

I'm loving seeing the development of this series and very buoyed by the ending which gives so much scope for the future. The camaraderie between Gregory and Douglas is superb, the whole examination of the many aspects of psychology fascinating and with the nature of Gregory's job being having the chance to be so transient, there are no ends to the different settings we can visit together. And as we all know, LJ Ross is a master at creating setting, making a landscape that is so perfectly described and evocative and characters so are immediately relatable, you cannot help but be drawn in.

Another winner. Loved it.
