Return to Virgin River: A Novel Kindle Edition

4.6 4.6 out of 5 stars 8,135 ratings

#1 New York Times bestselling author Robyn Carr returns to the beloved town of Virgin River with a brand-new story about fresh starts and new friends.

Now a Netflix Original Series!

Kaylee Sloan’s home in Southern California is full of wonderful memories of the woman who raised her. But the memories are prolonging her grief over her mother’s recent death. A successful author, Kaylee hoped she could pour herself into her work. Instead she has terrible writer’s block and a looming deadline.

Determined to escape distractions and avoid the holiday season, Kaylee borrows a cabin in Virgin River. She knows the isolation will help her writing, and as she drives north through the mountains and the majestic redwoods, she immediately feels inspired. Until she arrives at a building that has just gone up in flames. Devastated, she heads to Jack’s Bar to plan her next steps. The local watering hole is the heart of the town, and once she crosses the threshold, she’s surprised to be embraced by people who are more than willing to help a friend—or a stranger—in need.

Kaylee’s world is expanding in ways she never dreamed possible. And when she rescues a kitten followed by a dog with a litter of puppies, she finds her heart opening up to the animals who need her. And then there’s the dog trainer who knows exactly how to help
her. As the holidays approach, Kaylee’s dread turns to wonder. Because there’s no better place to spend Christmas than Virgin River.

Don't miss Robyn Carr's next uplifting novel, The Friendship Club, where four women come together at a tumultuous time in their lives, forging an unbreakable bond that will leave them all forever changed—available January 2024!

I have missed Virgin River and I become aware of this book a few weeks prior to my retirement and plan to move from Sacramento to just north of Eueka. Then I read this incredibly sad but inspiring book. I loved getting reacquainted with the residents of Virgin River and remembering their stories I had read years
prior. I love this fictional town that I feel exists in all small towns as I grew up in a small town at the beginning of the redwoods. We all knew each other and took care of each other. I hope there are more new Virgin River residents to arrive in the future and more stories to read. A beautiful story!

I've enjoyed other books by Robyn Carr, but I really enjoy this series. I relate to Kaylee as I also lost my mom at about the same age. Following her story and seeing the transformation once she met Landry was beautiful.

I have probably read the entire Virgin River series 3 or 4 times since first discovering it. The first half of the series is definitely stronger than the second half. With each successive book, there is a lot of wasted exposition reintroducing characters from earlier books and giving synopses of their stories. It has become increasingly annoying, and Return to Virgin River is the most annoying so far. This book felt like half the content was a constant stream of summaries of earlier books in the series. It does nothing to further the plot of this book and is a complete waste of the readers' time. Those who have read the earlier books don't need to be retold. Those whose first exposure to the series is this book don't need introductions and histories of characters who don't move the plot forward or have more than a passing interaction with the hero and heroine of this story. If Ms. Carr writes another book in this series I won't be reading it. I can't take another dose of cameos and recaps.

This one went from a 5 to a 4.5 when I got that ending. That just seemed so abrupt and like part of the storyline just dropped.

It was a good, fluffy, make you teary book that doesn’t completely fall in line with the others but it was still good.

I have purchased all her books in all her series and have loved most of them. This book disappointed me. Some how it doesn't grip. It feels like she chooses familiar ingredients and mixes them together mechanically and end result is bland.
The story covers 80% of the book and remaining 20% of the book is about filming of Virgin river series and excerpts from the first book. With sky high price of the book in India i.e. about Rs 500 I felt cheated.

So wonderful, your story. I lost my mum in 2019. She was so marvellous, generous, thoughtful and really intelligent. So that reminded me about your book.
