4.7 4.7 out of 5 stars 1,727 ratings

Private investigators Liz Talbot and Nate Andrews thought they’d put Darius Baker’s troubles to rest—then his recently discovered son ropes him into a hemp farm investment with his college buddies. When a beloved Charleston professor—and potential investor—is murdered, Liz and Nate discover Darius keeps the PIs on speed dial.

A shocking number of people had reasons to want the genteel, bowtie wearing, tea-drinking professor dead. Was it one of his many girlfriends or a disgruntled student? Or perhaps Murray was killed because his failure to invest meant the hemp farm trio’s dreams were going up in smoke?

Though Liz’s long-dead best friend, Colleen, warns her the stakes are far higher than Liz imagines, she is hellbent on finding the no-good killer among the bevy of suspects. But will the price of justice be more than Liz can bear?

Take a virtual vacation to Charleston in Susan M. Boyer’s latest Southern charmer,
Lowcountry Boondoggle. It’s a trip you don’t want to miss.

I love Liz and Nate but I especially love Colleen. As I have stated in previous reviews I have never been into mystic or ghost stories. But this series changed my mind a little. Susan Boyer makes her ghostly character so real and so loveable that I have decided I want one of my own.

This installment is another fantastic well developed mystery full of the red herrings Boyer is so good at hiding. You will be guessing and second guessing until the end. But there are some passages in this book that not only deserve to be bookmarked and highlighted they should be printed on wall hangings or on cards to remind us every day about those who love us in the present and in the past. Thank you Susan Boyer for an entertaining but also a very meaningful read. I will be recommending this one to all I know!!

Lowcountry Boondoggle is Susan M. Boyer’s ninth Liz Talbot mystery, and once again the city of Charleston and the South Carolina barrier islands are a fascinating part of the story. This time around, Liz and her husband/partner are drawn into a case by a former client, Darius Baker (Lowcountry Boomerang), whose recently-discovered son, Brantley, has become involved in a hemp farming operation. Nothing wrong with that, until the uncle of one of Brantley’s two partners is murdered and his house destroyed in a gas explosion.

Was the hemp operation involved? The uncle, a university professor, had declined to invest. What about all those women who showed up at the professor’s funeral? Or the cloud over Brantley’s head—could he have set the fire that killed his adoptive family? And then there were two of the professor’s students, possibly involved in something shady. Not only are there plenty of suspects, the suspects are suspicious of one another.

Lowcountry Boondoggle is another wild ride for Liz and Nate, not to mention the continuing adventures of Liz’s family, what with her father’s over-the-top Halloween yard decor and a couple of surprises from her brother Blake. I’ve enjoyed this series from the beginning, and this installment did not let me down.

When I open to the first page in a Liz Talbot series book I know author Susan M. Boyer will have given me that comfortable feeling for the location (Stella Maris and Charleston, South Carolina) and the family dynamics that surround Liz and her husband Nate as they tackle another case as private investigators. This one concerns the death of a local college professor who has been killed and later his home was destroyed. Liz and Nate need to find evidence of what happened and who was involved.

This one has just as many descriptions as always of the classic Southern food Mrs. Talbot cooks and puts on the table when her family comes for Wednesday night dinner. Liz can't help but sense lots of undercurrents within the family members and she is determined to find out what is going on. Her father is up to something and her mother wants Liz to find out what it is. As usual, these portions of the Boyer novels make me look over my shoulder to see if she's been following me around and taking notes!

Another solid story filled with Southern charm and atmosphere as well as good investigative practices that eventually lead to the resolution of the murder. There is a big change that happens in this book so it will be quite interesting to see how the story continues in book ten. Only a year to go until we find out.

This series is one you begin to feel like these are people and friends you know, Liz Talbot and Nate Andrews sure have seen a lot during the past eight books, in Book 9 once again Darrius is basically were Book 8 left off, except he has a son who is now part of his life. As Liz and Nate try to separate out all the pieces of the puzzles and figure out who murdered Professor Hamilton sometimes it becomes a little confusing but all in all a great story. The way Ms. Boyer brings the other family members intertwining is wonderful. Coleen and the crazy schemes her Dad comes up with all add to the twists and turns, just when you think oh I know who killed the Professor, a twist occurs and you realize you didn’t have the correct person. I have to say I missed what other’s referred to as a comment in the dedication and if I hadn’t seen the statement at the end, I wouldn’t have realized this might be the final book in the series. I sure hope it’s not. If you are new to this series please start with Book 1 to get the full feel of Liz and Nate and family members and of course Coleen.

I was hooked with the first book I read in the Liz Talbot Mystery series and have loved every book since. The ninth book, Lowcountry Boondoggle, is great! Susan M. Boyer catches me with her wonderful characters and keeps me avidly reading with a complex mystery and family shenanigans! The humor and the loving relationship between Liz and Nate are as much of a draw as the always captivating mysteries.
I requested an arc via Edelweiss and was excited to be approved. Thanks to Edelweiss and Henery press for the opportunity to get to read Lowcountry Boondoggle early. I loved the book and I always review books that I love.

I would like thank Susan M Boyer and Henry Press for my advanced review copy of Boondoggle. This is a wonderful series. Each book in the series just gets better than last. Susan M. Boyer writes with such detail about all places in the book that you can really picture everything and feel like you are write there with Liz and Nate while the investigate.

I love the side stories about Liz's family and Coleen. All the crazy schemes her dad comes up that drive her mom crazy....And her friendship with Coleen that continues even after death.....
The twist and turns in the plot make you second guess your choice of who the murderer and motive are and then second guess that guess again. Even though there are plenty of plot twist there aren't so many that it leaves feeling turned around and confused. Everything is very smooth and plausible and streams together smoothly.

The only problem I have with this series is waiting on the next book.....
