Alex Bryn, a once successful musician, is retired and earning his bread as a small-time music critic when he receives an unexpected call from a police inspector.

The inspector is investigating a suspicious death in Edinburgh of a woman identified as a past girlfriend of Alex's. Shaken by the news, Alex finds himself in a jazz bar attending an impossible out-of-time show performed by Ciara, his ex-lover, and reminiscing about their turbulent past.

Alex must walk a fine line in trying to give a convincing account of this near-mystical experience to the unbelieving inspector, especially since the experience is apparently linked to the secret of Ciara's death. But did the performance really take place or was it just a figment of Alex's imagination?

Review

"Klover's suspense thriller follows Alex Bryn, a retired musician who finds himself entangled in his former lover's murder investigation.

As a musician, Alex Bryn had seen his fair share of success, but his music carrier didn't last long. Making his living working as a music critic for a small magazine, Alex is barely drifting through life. But an unexpected call from Inspector Macpherson of the Specialist CrimeDivision of Scotland Police turns Alex's seemingly content life upside down. According to Inspector Macpherson, Clara Diech, Alex's former lover, has been dead for two weeks. But Alex has seen Clara performing live in a jazz bar in Edinburgh just a week ago. Did the performance really happen or was it just a figment of Alex's imagination? With hisown secrets to hide, Alex must tread his path carefully.

ChrisSharpes, Derek R McEwan, and Alex Berry turn in exceptional performances, lending effective voices to different characters without ever over performing. Their narration is apt for Klover's conventional writing style, skillfully conveying the suspenseful mood of the story.

Their pacing and nuances perfectly match the journey Alex takes, completewith the less than obvious motives, the tight plotting, a genuinelysurprising twist toward the end, and a positively suspenseful finalethat neatly ties all the loose ends.

The full recording ofsinger Hely Tree that sets the stage for the suspenseful storyline gives the novel its atmosphere. Told with suspense and uncanny, thisaudiobook does not disappoint.

Lovers of swiftly paced suspense thrillers will be rewarded."

All His Works: On the Eighth Day by Ainny Klover is a superb and immersive narrative experience that expertly combines a well written mystery drama short story with a fantastic music score.

After every enfolding chapter of this tragic love story between two troubled musicians, the listener is treated with a delightful song, performed with talent and passion by Helly Tree. The songs are produced by Alex Sheremetiev and are a combination of Jazz, Soul and Cabaret Jazz. Even more interesting is the fact that all songs and background music have been written by the author himself.

Three narrators, Chris Sharpes, Derek McEwan and Alex Berry, are involved into breathing life into this fusion of literature and music, with each of them bringing his A-game to the recording booth.

The listener will be instantly immersed into Chris Sharpes's terrific performance, will be swept away by the beautiful voice of our star singer, Helly Tree, while the other two narrators will provide character diversity, which will lead to an even elevated level of immersion.

Ainny Klover did a fantastic job with this original work of entertainment. Helped by superb performances by these extremely talented actors, singer and producer, All His Works: On the Eighth Day is a unique and new way to tell a captivating story that will stay with me for a long time.

“All His Works: On the Eighth Day” by Ainny Klover is an auditory experience that intersperses a murder mystery with Jazz songs.
The music and the performance of the songs on the Audible version are outstanding, but the story felt underdeveloped. However, the book raises some thought-provoking questions.
I would recommend “All His Works: On the Eighth Day" to thriller fans, music lovers, and anyone who likes pondering questions about art, aesthetic, and integrity. Readers who enjoyed Lynch’s "Mulholland Drive" should hear this audiobook, since it gives similar vibes. This is not the best pick for readers who like intricate mysteries.

I loved listening to the story on a long walk, the words crated suspense which was enhanced by musical intervals. Highly recommended for a self-indulging time!

It is a rare treat. The story is told in a strangely haunting melancholy way. The music and lyrics are exquisite and beautifully moving. When it ended, I didn't want to part with it. It followed me for the next few days. I will be looking for the next book from Ainny. Thank you!
