Picnic in Someday Valley: A Heartwarming Texas Love Story (A Honey Creek Novel Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.6 4.6 out of 5 stars 1,976 ratings

The charming and uplifting new novel from the legendary author of dozens of unforgettable romances! Travel to the small town of Honey Creek where ties run deep and happiness is just around the next river bend…

“Satisfying…It’s the novel’s patchwork of tender, slow-building relationships between quirky, caring characters that keeps the pages turning. Readers will be pleased.”
Publishers Weekly

Marcie Latimer longs to run away from Someday Valley—especially since her ex-boyfriend spun a web of lies that almost led to tragedy in neighboring Honey Creek. Little wonder so many locals have turned their backs on her. But not Brand Rodgers. The quiet cowboy comes to listen every time she sings at Bandit’s Bar, offering a glimpse of safety and calm that Marcie’s rarely known.

After Texas Ranger Colby McBride saved Honey Creek’s mayor, Piper Mackenzie, from a fire, she claimed him with a kiss. That was five months ago, and Colby still isn’t sure where they’re headed. Piper loves her town—but does she love Colby? And is he even ready for what comes next?

Pecos Smith, Honey Creek’s emergency dispatcher, is grateful to have a new bride he adores and a baby on the way—even if one vital piece of the puzzle is missing. But as trouble comes stalking through the valley, lives will cross surprising paths. And Marcie, who’s always felt that a forever love was out of reach, might discover that Someday is the perfect place to find it . . .

“Compelling and beautifully written.”

“Six lost souls find true love in the sweet first romance of the Honey Creek series from Thomas…It’s the inviting setting and quirky, good-hearted characters that will draw readers in.”

"Highly recommended."
—Library Journal, STARRED REVIEW on Sunrise Crossing

"Compelling and beautifully written, it is exactly the kind of heart-wrenching, emotional story one has come to expect from Jodi Thomas."
—Debbie Macomber, #1 New York Times bestselling author on Ransom Canyon

"You can count on Jodi Thomas to give you a satisfying and memorable read."
—Catherine Anderson, New York Times bestselling author

"This tale will grab readers, who will fall in love with the main characters and be just as enamored of the others."
Library Journal, STARRED REVIEW on Lone Heart Pass

“I fell in love with this small town with its secrets, residents who are, for the most part, good-hearted, and characters who came alive on the pages quite easily. The writing is smooth, the plot interesting, and the people we meet are as diverse as can be found in any small town across the country.”
Keeper Bookshelf on Breakfast at the Honey Creek Café

“Immediately Jodi Thomas draws the reader in, with intriguing characters in the middle of odd situations right in the middle of a little dusty town in Texas...Two things Jodi Thomas does well. Makes a small town in Texas come alive and she writes characters who are warm and very likable. The plot has some mystery, some romance, and sheer good-heartedness. Perfect for an escape read.”
The Book Date on Breakfast at the Honey Creek Café

“A pure joy to read.”

I'm the charming town traders go on a wild ride of love and danger. The stakes are high with a true crime issue that you'll have to reveal by reading. The characters are as fun, emotionally connected and quirky. Mostly, I love the arc of Marcie. She's a winner.

This series just gets better as the story and characters develop. You don't want to miss this contemporary romance. What wonderful characters that are realistic , interesting and sometime a little complicated. I couldn't put it down. A must read series. As always happy reading

The story
Mayor Piper has recovered from the arson at her office. Texas Ranger Colby is in love with Piper but things don’t seem to be going well. Farmer Jesse is a single dad to three young children but is obsessed with baker Adalee’s scones. Marcie sings at a bar and lives across the road at the trailer park. When some drunk guys follow her home and try to attack her, patron Brand fights them off. Pecos has married teen mom Kerrie and their baby is on the way. Love is all around in Honey Creek and Someday Valley…

My thoughts
I read the first book in this series, Breakfast at the Honey Creek Cafe, months ago but the storyline came back to me quickly. There is a lot happening in the two adjoining small towns, lots of good people but also some baddies who won’t be getting away with the trouble they are wanting to cause. This is an entertaining read but I recommend not reading as a standalone.

I read clean romance, and when I started this one, I figured I’d be putting it down soon. It had some rough stuff going on and I knew the sex and language were going to come. But they didn’t! It’s real, modern-day world stuff, bad guys and all. There is sex but it’s all off screen. And I loved the characters and what the women did at the end. Can’t say more without spoilers.

I feel sorry for Colby and any other men who just can’t figure out women, and I want Brand for myself! Jesse was as sweet as could be.

This is the first of the series I’ve read (obviously) so I wasn’t expecting several couples and numerous viewpoints, but it worked. The author gives us enough of what went before that you don’t need to read them in order, but I’m going to go back and read the first one.

I’m excited to start book 3. Love the characters, I finished this in one evening! Start with book 1. Do not read out of sequence.

This book, the second in the Honey Creek series, wonderfully pulls forward and meshes the story from the first book while adding additional characters. The way the the stories of Piper and Marcie concluded the book were very exciting and leaves the reader very satisfied!

Jodi Thomas is a good author. I was hooked on the first of pages. The characters were real and the support from the town citizens was caring and supportive to the story. There was a little too much pre-marital relationship for my taste but it wasn’t graphic so I am recommending the book.

The book kept me reading from beginning
To the end with romance, mystery and mayhem! Loved it. In fact I'm ordering book 2 of the series now!

1.0 out of 5 stars Warning: Graphic violence towards women
Reviewed in Canada on July 8, 2023
Picnic In Someday Valley was a huge downer. There was very little uplifting or charming or satisfying about it, until the last few pages. There were several lengthy descriptions of graphic violence towards women that were extremely upsetting. I was looking for a romance, not a horror story. This book has totally turned me off reading anymore Jodi Thomas books.
