I'm a person not a publishing house or an AI.

I imagine. I cogitate and explore. I listen to my muse.

I write, edit, and publish my novels wherever allowed and for prices anyone can afford.

Beyond manuscripts, I've learned to create audiobooks, book covers, and illustrations for these novels—mostly paranormal fantasy, science fiction, or a combination thereof. Think Dune meets Blade Runner meets Warhammer 40k.

My stories are often dark, gritty, and filled with surprises. The rational and irrational often vie for attention.

People have layers. Stories have layers too. You don't see them all in the first chapter or even the first read through.

As an indie author, every sale, every comment, every rating means something to me. I've grown to value sincerity. Your kind participation and candid reviews are always appreciated.

The story and action grow and grow. Excellent writing builds anticipation and the action carries it through. Can't wait for the next book!

The Scarred Man by Rory Surtain is a coming of age paranormal fantasy and supernatural suspense novel with a medieval-like setting. Our protagonist, Ara Storm, is eighteen and the youngest of the Vigils for the Realm of Colivar. He and his detachment head to Maidenhall, Colivar’s capital city. The kingdom is plagued by demonic attacks and Ara is learning how to eliminate them.

While Ara soon learns of dark forces in Maidenhall and works to fight them, he also finds that darkness is not entirely external. For one so young, he has faced much danger, but his internal struggles seem to be as important to handle. His back story and inner struggles for acceptance and happiness serve him well as his external struggles increase in this novel. He is likeable and compelling and grows because of the internal and external challenges he faces. The secondary characters had varying degrees of depth, but were sufficient for the story line.

The plot is truly a good versus evil struggle with lots of action as well as some political intrigue and much more. The world building is fantastic and gave me a great sense of time and place. I felt transported there, living the events alongside Ara.

I was happy to see that the short sections in the Bar Sinister in the Infernal World that were so prevalent in book one were significantly reduced in this one. While this novel is dark, it does have hope amidst the action and drama. While filled with demons and assassins, it also has themes of family, friendships, leadership, relationships, love, will, and hope.

Overall, this book was engrossing, entertaining, and a great addition to the series. I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series. If you enjoy dark fantasies and supernatural suspense, then this may be the next series for you. I recommend reading the novels in order. There is background information in book one that is necessary for the full enjoyment of book two.

Opinions are mine alone and are not biased in any way.

I had my doubts at first...the writing was a bit wooden...but it smoothed out, and the characters are strong and engaging.

OK, picture this: A gathering of evil spirit trackers are attempting to tackle a progression of terrible killings and wind up in the organization of a banished devil who was shipped off guide in the examination.

Normal adversaries, eh?

Multi-kind. Fascinating. This is...not the strangest thing I've ever perused, there are numerous books that could take that spot. It is, be that as it may, an intriguing mix of imagination and secret/spine chillers. I grew up perusing dream books and analyst stories and I don't think I've ever observed the two sorts mixed so well together. It's somewhat similar to Supernatural...on speed.

Intrigued by this entire book. The composition and pacing are extraordinary, the characters are amiable, the secret component is first rate and the stakes feel genuine. In general, I certainly suggest looking at this in the event that you get an opportunity.

Excellent storyline and we learn much more about the main characters powers/abilities in this book that makes it so you want to reread the 1st book again to catch up on what you may have missed. We are excited to read the future adventures of Ara and his House of characters. Very fast paced and fun read.

A group of demon hunters are trying to solve a series of grisly murders and find themselves in the company of an exiled demon who was sent to aid in the investigation. This is...not the weirdest thing I've ever read, there are many books that could take that spot. It is, however, an interesting blend of fantasy and mystery/thrillers. I grew up reading fantasy novels and detective stories and I don't think I've ever seen the two genres blended so well together. The writing and pacing are great, the characters are likable, the mystery element is well-executed and the stakes feel very real. Overall, I definitely recommend checking this out if you get a chance.

A cross genre thrill ride. Great pacing, plot and overall action. The author writes with verve.

The Gist of It: "The Scarred Man: Demon in Exile" is a fantasy in the darker sense. But in reality, it's more of a detective coming of age story that mixes elements of the fantastical/paranormal to pull us through the story. Demons conspire against and with the protagonists that hunt them. The pacing is on point. The characters are mostly likable. Overall, I really enjoyed the book. This is definitely up your alley if you like detective/mystery thrillers with paranormal or fantasy elements.
