Harbor Song: A Grey's Harbor Story Kindle Edition

4.6 4.6 out of 5 stars 20 ratings

Izzy hasn't tasted a drop of alcohol in twenty years, but the closer her niece's wedding gets, the more tempted by the bottle she becomes.

The Mizzen Mast is a popular hangout in Grey's Harbor. Izzy, its proprietor, knows everyone in town. They think they have her figured out, too, right down to the reason she started drinking, but they’ve got it all wrong. While Izzy never imagined having to raise her sister’s four-year-old daughter, Magnolia Jane never fueled her alcoholism. She'd been Izzy's saving grace.

Magnolia Jane is starry-eyed, head over heels in love, and powered by the invincibility of the young. Izzy had been that way, too, until one ordinary, unremarkable day turned her world upside down. The thought of Magnolia Jane suffering the same heartbreak is unbearable, so Izzy tells her niece about the boy she loved ... the boy she still longed for two decades after she'd last seen him. Izzy wants to help, but her niece might surprise her. Will Magnolia Jane save Izzy a second time by showing her she hasn't lost the chance for a happily ever after?

This book was so good!! While I greatly enjoy this author, I always forget just how good of a storyteller she is. This book had so much emotion in it! I am not one to cry at books -- especially human characters -- but I teared up at least once during reading this.

I have not read this series before, but I realize just how much I have been missing. This story was so good and I love Izzy. I will not forget her anytime soon. What she has gone through -- not to mention that she survived through it all and came out stronger.

I highly recommend this book to those who love a story filled with both absolute love and wrenching heartache, woven together into a fantastic tale.

What do you do when your heart's been shattered? If you're Izzy you wrap yourself around that pain and try to protect yourself from ever hurting like that again. Izzy and Elliot's story pulled at my heart in so many ways. JC Wing manages to make you feel their love come alive on the pages. Izzy has become a favorite Grey's Harbor resident for me and I so wanted her to have her HEA. Is it her turn? I don't want to give anything away so I will simply say read Harbor Song and love it. I did!

I have it on good authority that the majority of Harbor Song was written over one 4-day period. Having heard this, I have two reactions: 1) this is why the language and story flows so beautifully because the page didn’t fill with words in starts and stops; and, 2) I am amazed at the wholeness and details of a dear and touching story. The dialogue flows naturally. The characters are genuine and the major theme of the importance of family, family of choice in particular, plays out between the characters in multiple and credible and incredible ways: Izzy, Wren, and Gabe and the three children raised between the three of them; Elliott and Alice; Mateo caring for Olivia and Marjorie with no real obligation to do so except that he’s a good man with hope that his actions will make a difference; and, Mateo and Izzy, a father and daughter so in tune and devoted to each other.

During this pandemic, I have read more romance and women’s fiction than I ever have to escape for a while in a book. While many of those books did just what I needed them to – got me out of my head for a reprieve from reality, Harbor Song shines above all of those. Harbor Song embraces you with a warmth few books can. It’s a story of lifelong friendships, commitment to family, living with tragic loss and grief, triumphing over addiction, and most of all opening one’s heart and loving all of it, even in the most desperate of times holding onto hope.

Izzy's story ~ what a wonderful read this one was. JC Wing layered this story perfectly, with lovable, relatable characters, an engrossing story line, and just enough heartbreak and hope to keep you turning pages.

The story of Izzy's life and the challenges in her relationships with her mother and sister were balanced by her strong, upstanding father, Mateo. Izzy's journey to school, the realization that happiness could be hers, her losses and bottoming out all made me want the very best for Izzy and the further I read, the more I wanted an HEA for her.

So many things in this book touched my heart and made me feel all the feels...If you want a full life's journey packed into a book, you will want to pick up Harbor Song. If you love stories about characters maturing and changing while facing challenges head on, this one is for you.

Do yourself a favor and pick up Harbor Song today. I don't really think you need to read the series from the beginning for this book to make sense or for you to relate to everyone involved, so jump in now.

Thank you to the author for an ARC at my request. These thoughts are my own and freely given. I loved this book and am fortunate to have had a chance to read it.

Heartache, Family life and Wonderful memories. Oh, my!

J.C. Wing has done it again with another well written novel. The characters each have a personality that anyone can relate to in some kind of way. If you love novels with star-crossed lovers, heartache and family settings this is the novel for you to open. Izzy the main character has gone through so much in life and has finally decided to admit her deepest secrets.

If you want to find out more about her deepest secrets I suggest you open this novel. Even better perk you do not need to read the other Grey’s Harbor books to find out where these characters are from. But it is a great plus to read the full novels from each author of the series.

J.C. Wing has written many novels, series and characters that can touch your heartstrings. But in all honestly I think these characters have become some of my favorites she has ever written.

J. C. Wing just keeps getting better and better.

Harbor Song is another book in the Grey's Harbor series, a series of books written by several authors. I am a big fan of Wing who has provided us with great novels in several genres. But, I am in love with Grey's Harbor.

Wing develops her characters so well that by the end of the book, you feel like you know them so well. And she has been successful at this in several genres .

If you have read other books in this series, you will recognize Izzy. Harbor Song is her story and you definitely want to read this. If you haven't read anything in this series, you really need to pick up Harbor Song. You will also need to pick up a box of tissues.

I highly recommend Harbor Song, J. C. Wing, and all of the Grey's Harbor stories.
