I can’t believe this is my first book by Ava Harrison. I need to start one-clicking her books ASAP!!!
Oh man, where do I start. In the beginning of the book, we get a little background information on Alaric and his older brother, who has been making some mistakes that have basically cost him being the top dog in his family. Because of that, Alaric (the younger brother) is left in charge of the family business- and yes, the business deals with illicit affairs, guns, etc. 4 years later, we see Phoenix’s perspective. She’s talking to her father who is incredibly stressed out. She admits to him that she knows what he does, knows the type of job he’s involved in (guns) and wants to help him. Alaric thinks Phoenix’s father killed his brother, but he didn’t. He has sought revenge and is putting a target on his back. Phoenix isn’t going to let that happen. So, she decides she going to help her father recuperate some of what he’s lost, the business dealings that Alaric has stolen from him, and help him clear his name.
Her plan involves sneaking onto Alaric’s boat (yacht) and find out where Alaric has stored her father’s shipment. She seduces him but Alaric figures out who she is before she is successful. So, he sets up a trap. Knowing that she’s going to sneak into his office, he creates an office “prison” where she can’t get out (all of this is on his boat) and starts sailing away from shore, leaving her stuck with him and his plan. His plan- trade her father for her- and then fulfill the revenge against his brother’s death. But things don’t go as planned. While out at sea, they get attacked; Alaric and Phoenix are forced to abandon ship and end up drifting off to a secluded, small island hours and hours later. There, they have to survive with limited food and supplies. Luckily for Phoenix, Alaric is incredibly resourceful.
Obviously, there is an attraction between these two and it only gets stronger while on the island. I have to say-I don’t remember reading a book like this. I LOVED it. I felt their struggles, their survival instincts, their pain, their lusts and hesitations. The descriptions of their need to survive was incredibly vivid and accurate. I felt like I was on the island with them. As the book progresses so does their connection. I was here for it all!! I wanted to consume this book in one sitting! It was ADDICTING! I was completely immersed and didn’t want the book to end!
