Relations (The Fallen World Book 10) Kindle Edition

4.5 4.5 out of 5 stars 154 ratings

Ten years after the fall of the world, Shey and his friends have settled into their normal lives, or what they look at as the new normal, anyway. Although their lives weren’t great, at least they had survived the Fall and were able to start putting things back together again.

But then his best friend—the woman who is almost an older sister to him and who saved his life the day the bombs fell—gets sick and needs something only he can get for her. Nanites from a secret facility that may be able to help her.

Although it seemed like a simple mission—far easier than any he’d had to do in his former life as a Teledyne Specialist—nothing is easy in this Fallen World. Although some people are working to resurrect society, others are more bent on power—the kind you get by taking it from those weaker than you—and he will have to face challenges he never imagined and hazards that could end even a Teledyne Specialist. And, if he survives that, he still has to break into a secure facility that was meant to keep people like him out.

But a friend’s life is in jeopardy and he has to make the attempt…or die trying.

Brisco Woods was born and raised in the Appalachian region of East Tennessee. His first pair of boots were issued to him by the USAF when he showed up to basic training in homespun pants and bare feet. The Air Force, in all its wisdom, thought he would be a great candidate to work on nuclear ICBM’s, so he was sent to the cornfields of Illinois to learn what an Intercontinental Ballistic Missile was. After some intense training and discovering what real winter was, he thought, off he went on his first over seas assignment, to North Dakota.

Through his career of 23 years in the US Air Force, he went on to work on avionics equipment on several different air frames and then spent his last 4 years in Command and Control. He eventually got tired of going into work on the ground floor and taking an elevator down to the concrete cave that was his life, and retired.

After having to write a separate resume for every job he was applying for, he decided “to hell with this” and became a Realtor.

Upon seeing how successful his little brother and sister were as authors, he caved in to his brothers constant jabbering about writing and made a story in the Fallen World universe that this same brother had created.

Since the first story was received well, he has branched out to some SciFi and done a few of stories in Kevin Steverson’s Salvage Universe. He also completed a novel from the original Fallen World tale, another short story in Among The Embers, and a novel from the character introduced there. He has an immediate follow up to that novel and two in the Salvage Title universe in the work with more to come.

Without a doubt, I by far prefer the books and short stories written by The Woods brothers and Chris Kennedy. Some of the others, not so much.

I read the blurb for this book, and some of the reviews, and I wasn't thinking I'd enjoy this book as much as others in the series. I was wrong. If, like me, you read the blurb and went, meh... read it anyway. The book was much better than I thought it would be from that description. Don't know why it lead me to believe that, but there it is. I really like this series, and this book was a great addition.

Relations is a delightful novel set in The Fallen World Universe. I use the word delightful to describe the book because even though it has the action, mayhem, and post apocalyptic vibe a reader would expect from a book in The Fallen World series, the novel has another element. The story spends a decent amount of time focusing on the effort various small settlements have formed to cooperate between groups for trade purposes and to help each other. In between the action and mayhem Brisco Woods has done a fantastic job of detailing how the characters work together by forming relationships. Thus the title of the novel. Outstanding first novel and I hope the author writes many more.

This is an excellent entry into the series. A little different, but definitely in the Fallen World. The characters are so well executed, that I feel like I have new friends. It's a shining example of what could and should happen were the world ever to truly fall. I would want to be with this group! The author truly puts you there, and I didn't want the book to end. I truly hope he is working on a second novel using these characters and locations!

The Wild West has regained its former state of unrest, but the good only need a leader to rise up and take it back! Enter Shey, the right Specialist at the right time! Throw in some great new characters that bring a sense of humor to the Fallen World and you have a page turner for sure!

Seems like every new character and story added just makes the world fuller and more real. One just has to hope that in a world torn apart like this true humanity would rise to the top and the strong would become heroes and not tyrants

I love the Fallen World universe and this is an excellent entry into the realm. It is a break away from the previous books in the series in that it's a totally new character and setting for the story line and it's a fun read that I started and finished in 2 days and a night. I look forward to reading more of these characters and how things develop

Probably the weakest one in the series yet, new author, still learning his chops so a bit formulaic. Still enjoying the series though, #11 was pretty strong.

Interesting plot, very likeable characters. Action where it belongs, good people making the best of the situation in this Fallen World. And bad guys getting what they deserve. I really liked this story.

5.0 out of 5 stars another great addition to the Fallen World

Brisco Woods has given us another very worthwhile addition to the Fallen World universe, and this one was spot on the money with the tension, drama and excitement, but also heartening in that it is about the main protagonist Shey and his efforts to bring communities together. Brisco has a very laconic and almost conversational style of writing, and the adventures, dramas and battles in the novel kept me glued to my kindle in anticipation of what was going to happen next. The characters are well-fleshed out, the plot is believable, and the action definitely not over the top. There is also an overall feel-good vibe throughout, and whilst perhaps slightly less gritty than other novels in this world it still works well and still gave me all the good feels! Definitely a keeper, and definitely worth reading!
