Lady of Hearts Kindle Edition

4.5 4.5 out of 5 stars 23 ratings

"I couldn't heal a country when I had thus far demonstrated a shocking level of ineptitude healing any single person."

The kingdom knows her as the Lady of Hearts, blessed of Alphere. The king knows her as Saria Daeris, a seventeen-year-old girl with a magical gift.

All Saria wants is to fulfill the prophecy she received years ago: to restore a creature of Darkness to the Light. Despite a past mistake, she’s determined to trust Alphere and get it right this time. The problem is, she’s not sure how long she’ll have to wait, and in the meantime, her country is threatening to split into civil war.

As her stay at Kelside Palace extends, Saria finds herself caught in a tug-of-war between the two factions even as her own heart leads her down a third path. Friendships old and new beckon to her, as does a budding romance, but the love she’s after is far greater: a love strong enough to redeem one of the most despised creatures of the world and offer forgiveness for her own mistake.

This young-adult fantasy novel is great for readers who enjoy stories of compassion and redemption, with a dash of humor throughout. It reimagines Lewis Carroll's Queen of Hearts character as one who wins her people's hearts rather than demanding their heads.

There were missing words scattered about, and some formatting choices annoyed me slightly.
But the characters, the romance(s), the story, the message - they all overpowered too much to drop any stars.
I look forward to more. Maybe a longer work about Saria's little brothers...

Although it took me a bit to understand when Saria was talking to her God or herself, I really enjoyed the plot twists and turns. There’s also quite a bit of imagery that makes me think. I’m not always sure what the author was trying to convey. But, it’s nice to leave some things to think about. And the romance was beautiful!

Really enjoyed this clean read. I liked the intertwining of the spiritual and practical worlds. Syria's self was especially forthwright in how we also self talk and how we battle with our own emotions and tendencies to act. Thanks for a good read and keep it up!

It was great seeing Ria's character grow and develop. I loved her deep faith and the desire to do right, although it sometimes back fired. A little romance and a lot of complex characters.

I would have loved to give this five stars. I found it to be a riveting read and a rather unique story plot. I gave it four stars because there are some places where I am not quite sure what the author was saying, but nothing that had a big impact on the story.

This is clean language-wise and romance-wise. I look forward to reading it again and hope the author puts out some side stories or a sequel to fill out some side characters’ stories better.

I adore fantasy, the wit, the creatures, the magic, the conflict...This book just didn't have anything for me to hold onto as expected/ familure in the genre and what WAS there can be summed up in a word: MEH. I am a patient reader, I am a forgiving reader. But this story, even though it was well edited and has a lovely cover, just didn't do it for me at all. As it seemed 90% dialogue and the rest of it just wasn't substantial enough to carry the story.

I can't believe I didn't put my review in when I finished it over a year ago! I get her newsletters every month and just realized I did not leave a review. As you can see by my headline, I couldn't hardly put it down. I loved all the characters, the storyline, and the twists. I have read a few of her other books and short stories and can't wait to get into more of her writings. I love the dragon tales, and hope she writes more!

This has a wonderful fairytale hue to it with a nice message.
