Ego Trip: A Cocky Boss Romantic Comedy Kindle Edition

4.4 4.4 out of 5 stars 813 ratings

Two weeks on the road with my boss? Business as usual.
Two weeks on the road with my newer, hotter boss that I had a one-night stand with four years ago?
A disaster waiting to happen.

It was a one-time thing with a man I knew from work.
His name was Oliver Black. The rich and handsome manager of the Botsford Plaza Hotel in Las Vegas.
Dark hair. Icy blue eyes. A cocky smirk with dimples deep enough to trip on.
No one has to know, he said.
And no one did know... except maybe the guests trying to sleep in the suite next door.

I didn't know he'd eventually get promoted to my department.
I
definitely didn't know my boss would assign me to travel the country with him to keep his raging ego in check.

Two weeks. Five locations. A whole lot of hotel rooms in-between.

This trip will either solidify our business relationship as totally platonic friends and nothing more, or destroy my career.
But we already know the answer to that question, don't we?

I'm
screwed. Literally.

Ego Trip is a stand-alone romantic comedy with a cocky boss, his cheeky by-the-books assistant, and enough steam to melt your Kindle! One-click your copy to find out why romance lovers can’t get enough of Tabatha Kiss and her delicious heroes!

"There is nothing, NOTHING, that Tabatha has written that I haven't fell in love with."

★★★★★
"I. LOVED. This. Book. It's MAGICAL!
I can't put into words what this book means to me."

★★★★★
"I loved them both so much, their banter, their arguments, all their interactions, professional and personal. They just fit together so perfectly.
They made me laugh out loud, swoon, hold my breath and everything in between."

★★★★★
"This couple is meant for each other. They are perfect for each other. Their characters were so well written. Every single attribute added something to the story. Their story was against the rules but they were able to make it out in love.
Their love was aa true one and as hilarious as their love was, their story was beautiful. Kiss's writing is amazing. The style grips and keeps you in. I loved the idea of how they gave each other their favourite novels. I loved every character. I hope to read the rest of the characters' stories." --Quotes taken from real Amazon reviews

So, confession time. When I started reading this, I thought I was in for a steamy, easy, palate cleanser of a read. I’ve only read one other book by this author, and it was a sexy good time – but didn’t leave me wanting more. Well, then I started reading this one… and found myself up past 3 in the morning, wondering just how late I could stay up and still function at work. I LOVED it. So much bantery goodness, so much chemistry, and all of these little lines that had me cracking up. It got better with every chapter, building on the initial “predictable” rom com feel and taking things up a notch. And it was SEXY. Let’s call this one a hot slow burn, because the tension between these two was palpable.

The story follows Paige and Oliver, two people who work in different departments of the same chain of hotels. They ran into each other at the hotel bar one night, and found themselves sharing one steamy evening together. It was never really a problem, because they don’t work together on a regular basis… that is, until a promotion sends Oliver right into Paige’s orbit. Though it’s been four years since their night together, all of those memories come rushing back to the surface when they go on a two-week business trip. And while it’s easy to say that they can keep things professional, actually following through on that becomes next to impossible once they get to know each other better.

I loved the playfulness of this, and the fact that these two don’t just immediately jump back into bed together. There’s all kinds of delicious tension, and the build in intimacy makes the payoff that much better. It’s steamy, fun, low angst, and just what I like in my rom coms. There was one steamy scene that wasn’t to my personal taste, but it lasted all of two pages and that’s really the only thing I didn’t love about the book. It was excellent from start to finish, and the snap of tension was a thing of beauty. There’s one scene where I went from having all of the warm and fuzzy feelings to taking in a shocked breath along with one of these characters. I was 100% invested in this relationship from start to finish, and I loved its hidden depth. I’ll definitely be checking out more from this author now – this was fantastic. I received an early copy via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review of this workplace romance.

I NEEDED this book after reading the book “Release” by Aly Martinez last week. That book was intense, this book was quirky and fun with a dash of drama. This is my first time reading anything by this author and I can’t wait to get my hands on more.

Oliver and Paige, employees of Botsford Hotels, have a one night stand four years ago. It’s hot, steamy and leaves an impression on both of them with Oliver wanting to see Paige again but she didn’t return his calls. Present day, Oliver has gotten a promotion that puts Paige back into his life and he isn’t going to waste the opportunity. Paige on the other hand has her reasons for not giving into Oliver, one of which is the very clear guidelines that relationships between co-workers are not allowed. However, as Paige and Oliver spend more time together, the lines are blurred as they give into temptation and that’s when this book becomes unputdownable.

Oliver is what book boyfriends are made of as I absolutely adored him and the way he treated Paige. It took me longer to warm up to Paige because her Type A Personality made me a bit crazy and I wanted her to give in faster than she did. I would have liked more resolution with the “villain” in this story but overall I really enjoyed it and will look into this author’s other books.

This book reinforces exactly what I love about a Tabatha Kiss story. This was funny and emotional with sizzling chemistry between the characters, and so much epic banter. I was smiling the entire time. If you've read the Heartthrob Hotel series then you've met the Botstford Boys and have gotten a brief intro to both Oliver and Paige. But no worries if you haven't, because this story can be read as a total standalone.

Oliver is settling into his new Corporate Liaison role and Paige, as Graham's right hand for years, is sent to assist Oliver during his first trip of hotel audits. The spark from their one-night stand four years before reignites and creates tons of tension between them. They try to keep things professional, but the chemistry is undeniable and leads to some super sizzling scenes between these two.

But the story isn't all heat and tension, there's also romance and emotion with a tiny touch of angst. Just enough to keep you turning the page without feeling too heavy. And when a surprise twist happens nearing the end, I couldn't turn the page fast enough to see how things would finally play out.

There are tons of character reappearances from other series including Hearthrob Hotel and Muffin Top. And if you've read Chicago Nights, you'll smile with the Melanie and Robbie passages. The writing is textbook Tabatha. So much so, I normally dislike reading stories with flashbacks but here, the author even manages to find a way to sprinkle in some humor with the lead-in to those chapters and had me smiling rather than growling.

This is another great story from an author who has mad skills. And if you haven't read the Hearthrob Hotel series, pick that one up and get to know the Botsford family.

One night and four years later Paige gets partnered with Oliver for audits. Graham is dealing with being a new father and CEO. There are funny, emotional, and tense moments. Fiona the Queen is so awesome. Kingston gives Oliver great advice. Paige and Oliver have worked hard and put in the time for their positions. Have fun reading Ego Trip!

Page and Oli have a one night stand four years ago, never to be discussed again. That is until they end up working together. Got to admit, found Oliver a bit cocky at first but warmed to him as I continued to read and ended up really liking him. Enjoyed the interactions and believable dialogue between the two of them. There was a part where they faced a huge problem which was really well handled taking you through all the emotions from embarrassment to frustration to satisfaction. This is a standalone, but does feature some characters from other books. Haven’t read all of those yet, but will be picking them up now based on this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Oli & Paige
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on April 20, 2024
I really liked Oli, he wasn't as egotistical so much as self assured. I've read quite a few books in the tabaverse so I knew the supporting characters & liked seeing them again.
My only negative was a lack of resolution with the expose, hopefully that'll be covered in a later back I haven't got to yet.

First time reading this author and it was a very slow paced book. Nothing new in the storyline and plot. A very cliche Boss and assistant romance book.
