The art and story line are both excellent. Definitely had a feel like Saga with a surprise twist I was legit not expecting. Recommend for sure.

Well many people are comparing us to saga this has more incoming shadow run than it does that series. And like Shadow Run its cyberpunk mixed with fantasy. And if you enjoyed shadow run your most likely enjoy this I found the art and story telling to be good. Thou like saga it's for more mature audience even if it's toned to the sex and violence.

To say that I was in love from the first page would in no way be an understatement Justin Osterling art kept me enraptured from the first page; watching it change and develop with the story was a joy that I can't understate. It truly made the differences apparent and, at times, striking while also showing the beauty of the melding of the worlds.

While Wiebe's writing honestly made me smile. Morgan felt so much like the type of strong-willed character that my friends play in tabletop RPGs, and the interesting use of tech and magic is amazing. I was left in aw to learn more about this world.

My only real turn-off was the depictions of sex, which, while acting to build the characters and relations, left the prudish side of me squirming in discomfort.

'Dryad, Vol. 1' by Kurtis Wiebe with art by Justin Osterling is a new graphic novel from the creator of Rat Queens.

The Glass family live in a secluded and mysterious forest. Morgan, Yale and their twins Griffon and Rana seem to be at peace, but there are secrets lurking. Like why did Morgan and Yale leave a life behind and why are they suddenly in danger when the twins discover something in a nearby cave and bad guys start pouring in to the once peaceful forest.

The story dumps you in the middle and lets you figure things out as it goes. I didn't mind that, but it feels like the back half starts to meander a bit much. The art is solid and I did like the story.

I received a review copy of this graphic novel from Oni Press and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this graphic novel.

I received a copy of this book through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

The art in this book is good and is definitely one of the highlights of the book.

It has definite Saga-vibes. I found the story confusing though. There's a lot of things thrown out to raise the mystery of the characters former lives. But it felt choppy - the jump from the woods to the city and everyone acclimating and moving on so quickly.

The pacing of the story moves quickly but I couldn't help but feel I was missing things that would have helped me understand the story.

Overall it wasn't my cup of tea but would love to see more of the art.

Kurtis Wiebe of Rat Queens fame does his best Saga impression and it turned out really good. I loved how this started out as high fantasy before becoming...something more. I was completely fooled. Justin Osterling's art was very good too. Loved the character designs.

This was a great graphic novel. The illustrations were so vibrant and sharp. I loved how the colors and art shift as the story progresses to reflect the tone of what is happening.

The plot was interesting and engaging. It definitely took a turn that I was not expecting and I love the direction that it ended up going. What I thought was going to be a strictly fantasy graphic novel turned into a beautiful blend of fantasy and sci-fi.

After reading the first volume, there is definitely a lot still left to learn about the world and still secrets to uncover about our characters and I look forward to doing so in the upcoming releases.

Fantasy and Cyberpunk, together!
The art is solid, capturing both the fantastical elements and the edgy aesthetic of Silver City.
If you like that fusion of fantasy and high-tech with a plot that uses familiar ideas in a different capacity, you'll enjoy this series.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
Reviewed in Canada on June 22, 2021
Kind of disappointed, there's no character development, finished the volume and I ended up not caring for any of the (annoying) characters or what was going on around them. I liked the premise but I feel like it's trying too hard to be edgy. There's too much action and no exposition. Illustrations are decent, kinda amateurish and inconsistent throughout.
