Review

Cast the First Stone is a mind-bender of the first order. Fast paced, strong characters, great twists and Rembrandt Stone is a hero I predict will be grabbing readers around the throat for a long time. This is one to pick up because you won't want to put it down. -Ted Dekker - New York Times bestselling author

Cast the First Stone grabs the crime genre by the collar and shows it a thing or two! With time travel, cold cases, and flawed, relatable characters who feel like old friends, this story hooked me from the very first line. Sleep? Who needs sleep? Give me a True Lies of Rembrandt Stone novel. Masterful writing from three powerhouse storytellers. -NYT bestselling author Tosca Lee

Holy what?! DO NOT MISS THIS STORY! David James Warren kills it with this time-travel story that explores regrets and mistakes and the importance of living in the now. I tried explaining to Rembrandt Stone the dangers of messing with the timeline, but would he listen? Of course, not. This was truly a riveting story that gutted me! Now. Where the fluff is book 2?

-Ronie Kendig, author of the bestselling, award-winning The Tox Files

Best time travel series ever!

Best time travel series ever!
Well who would have thought I would love time travel so much?! I’m hooked on this series which is a suspense/thriller. Rembrandt Stone, now an ex-detective was given a watch and a box of cold case files from his former boss. Little does he know his whole world is about to change. In this series he’s given a chance to go back in time and find closure for these cases and families. The problem: It’s too hard to go back in time and not want to change the events and the outcome. So he does. But with each change of the past comes a change for his future and the future of those he loves~and not all good changes.Books 1 and 2 left me with cliffhangers that make me keep wanting the next one 🤩Thank you for my advanced copy for an honest review

This series, and the purchase of this book was the first time in my life I seriously felt that feeling "TAKE MY MONEY, GIMME THE BOOK!". The story is very compelling and the audiobook version (which I purchased with matchbook), read by James L Rubart, added to the value. The narrator is one of the authors, so the feeling that the author puts into the story was in the narration. Well done. Awesome story, awesome pinch points and totally unexpected twists. I am currently moving through the series, as audiobooks.

This second installment of The True Lies of Rembrandt Stone was even better than the first.

Rem's previous trip to the past drastically changed his present, and not for the better. Now, he's hoping to go back again to try and fix the damage he did, while also trying to solve one of his old cold cases. Talk about exciting!

This book demanded to be read as fast as possible. The pace was lightning quick. I couldn't read it fast enough and had an incredibly hard time putting it down when “real life” intruded.

If you enjoy books featuring time travel, this is a must read. I highly recommend it and can't wait for book three!

No Unturned Stone
by David James Warren
Book 2 in the True Lies of Rembrandt Stone series
Rating: 4.5/5

This time-traveling saga continues with Detective Rembrandt Stone trying to figure out what went wrong and how he can fix it. You definitely need to read the first book before reading this one or the story won't make any sense.

Detective Stone has returned to his timeline only to find that tragedy has touched his family and life in unimaginable ways and whatever he did in the past has changed his present timeline. As he wonders why his old boss gave him the mysterious watch, he struggles with the changes in his life and wonders if he can have his former life back. When he gets sent back to another time in the past to solve another murder, Rembrandt hopes that he can make the right change to put his life back together. His relationship with Eve is inevitable, right? While Rembrandt deals with the ramifications from solving that first cold case, he does his best to solve another murder case which may be related to a serial killer. While trying to solve that murder, he also tries to play guardian angel. What will be the consequences of his actions if he tries to intervene again?

In this second installment, the reader learns a bit more about the purpose of the time-traveling watch and why it was given to Rembrandt. Inevitably, Rembrandt can't get his new present out of his head and is determined to somehow get his old life back. He struggles with the decision of whether or not to change the past - to take action to save lives. As a reader, I completely understand his predicament and his drive to save people, but I also empathize with his inability to comprehend that his actions have severe consequences. I enjoyed this trio's writing and the filling out of the characters. I like hearing both Rembrandt's and Eve's voices. This story is only just beginning. and of course, it ends on another cliffhanger reveal that has me demanding the next book now. LOL.

Highly recommend this exciting time-traveling saga with romance, mystery, and suspense. You won't want to miss this continuation of the story.

My thanks to the author and publisher for providing me with an ARC of the book. All opinions expressed here are entirely my own. No positive review was expected and no compensation received.

This is the second in a series and I need to read all of them to see if Rembrandt Stone gets his happy ending! The beginnings, endings, middles all keep changing. The end is different but why? What does he do that causes the changes? It’s fascinating! Each can be read as a stand-alone, but I would start at the first one! They are SO good! Paradoxes and changes. Fantastic books!

I am usually not a fan of time travel themes. I am a huge Susan May Warren (SMW) fan and was intrigued to read this series bc of her. In the beginning it didn't grab me but stayed with it. Now that I have finished 2nd installment of this saga, I still have mixed feelings.
The story is a great story, full of unforseen twists and turns that kept me reading even when my heart was pounding, afraid to turn the page but holding my breath to get to where I could turn the next page. Then I would wish I hadn't, yet would keep on reading to see what was going to happen on the next page and the next and next. Until, Oh No! The end.
In short, I couldn't put the book down until I finished the second installment. Wouldn't have then but the third isn't out yet, which is really mean of the authors to leave me hanging, wondering.
There are 2 dislikes for me. I know it is a series but cliffhanger endings are not my favorite. The 2nd is a bigger disappointment, but keep in mind I gave it 5 stars! One of the things I have come to love about SMW books/series is how they always leaves me feeling positive, uplifted, encouraged. I was disappointed to not get any of that this time. In fact, I was left feeling dark and troubled, even depressed. The storyline is haunting. I fell in love with the characters. I know some of the characters. No wait, they are fictional but they became real as I read. That's how good the story is, well written and I need to find out what happens in the end. I can only hope that is where I will find a happier SMW ending.

Yep...Just like I thought, book 2 was better than book 1. But, I'm thinking that I have gotten us d to DJW's writing style.
So, that being said, both were very good reads. Excellent character development! I'm looking forward to book 3.

5.0 out of 5 stars Plot twisted left me reeling more than Rem
Reviewed in Canada on September 8, 2021
The suspense continues, as does the raised hopes, as Rem works towards the original reality he had and desperately wants back. The writing is strong, the storyline kept this reader sucked in, and the characters are realistic & well-done.
In fact, it was easy to get caught up in each character's situation, and I actually groaned out loud when the plot twisted in a direction I totally didn't expect. I didn't know whether to be upset or weirded out, and then I felt guilty for even feeling a little weirded out haha 😄
Did I just confuse you? That's ok, It's much better than saying more & spoiling the story. Trust me, it's worth the read to see where Rem Stone's time travel experiences take him--I just hope it all eventually works out the way he wants it to!
