All the Feels: A Novel (Spoiler Alert Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.4 4.4 out of 5 stars 2,573 ratings

Following Spoiler Alert, Olivia Dade returns with another utterly charming romantic comedy about a devil-may-care actorwho actually cares more than anyone knowsand the no-nonsense woman hired to keep him in line.

"An absolutely witty, swoon worthy behind the scenes romp! Delightful from beginning to end!"--Julie Murphy, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Dumplin'

Alexander Woodroe has it all. Charm. Sex appeal. Wealth. Fame. A starring role as Cupid on TV’s biggest show, Gods of the Gates. But the showrunners have wrecked his character, he's dogged by old demons, and his post-show future remains uncertain. When all that reckless emotion explodes into a bar fight, the tabloids and public agree: his star is falling.

Enter Lauren Clegg, the former ER therapist hired to keep him in line. Compared to her previous work, watching over handsome but impulsive Alex shouldn’t be especially difficult. But the more time they spend together, the harder it gets to keep her professional remove and her heart intact, especially when she discovers the reasons behind his recklessness…not to mention his Cupid fanfiction habit.

When another scandal lands Alex in major hot water and costs Lauren her job, she’ll have to choose between protecting him and offering him what he really wants—her. But he’s determined to keep his improbably short, impossibly stubborn, and extremely endearing minder in his life any way he can. And on a road trip up the California coast together, he intends to show her exactly what a falling star will do to catch the woman he loves: anything at all.

All the Feels and can't wait to see what Dade writes next. Olivia Dade is an auto-buy author!" -- Jessie Mihalik, author of Chaos Reigning

"Dade's charming, sexy contemporary romance will be hard to put down. Alex and Lauren are likable, well-developed characters with emotional depth and relatable backstories that deal with body positivity, mental health, and abuse. Library Journal (starred review)

"[
All the Feels] weaves in sharp wit and dry humor even as it tugs at the reader's heartstrings with its exploration of the far-reaching repercussions of trauma... Dade's ironic awareness of popular romance tropes adds another layer of interest and fun. A consistently entertaining and often insightful romance." -- Kirkus Reviews (starred review)

"Dade delivers and then some. This book frolics through fields of fannish allusion and metatext... It takes a skillful writer to juggle so many elements, yet the emotional through-line shines clear and strong at every point." --

About the Author

Olivia Dade grew up an undeniable nerd, prone to ignoring the world around her as she read any book she could find. Her favorites, though, were always, always romances. As an adult, she earned an M.A. in American history and worked in a variety of jobs that required the donning of actual pants: Colonial Williamsburg interpreter, high school teacher, academic tutor, and (of course) librarian. Now, however, she has finally achieved her lifelong goal of wearing pajamas all day as a hermit-like writer and enthusiastic hag. She currently lives outside Stockholm with her patient Swedish husband, their whip-smart daughter, and the family's ever-burgeoning collection of books.

I read Spoiler Alert by Olivia Dade last fall and really really enjoyed that story. This sequel has been sitting on my kindle ever since and I FINALLY got around to reading it. Now I'm not sure why it took me so long because I loved it! I think I liked this one even more than Spoiler Alert. When I started the book, I allllmost dnf and gave up after the first chapter because of the way the author was describing Lauren. I was afraid it was going to turn into a "the boy learns how to look past the outside and falls for the ugly girl" but it wasn't that way at all. Once it started turning and growing, I was HOOKED. I found myself highlighting phrases nonstop. The themes of body acceptance and having a body positive attitude were perfect. So often the girls are so self-depreciating and ashamed of themselves, but this wasn't that way at all. It was very realistic and wonderful. She obviously had experience with mean people, but in one part she even says something like "I may be shy, but that doesn't mean I'm ashamed of my body." Looooove her. And the mmc has ADHD, so body positivity plus ADHD awareness? Perfection. In this book girl gets job babysitting actor. He's mad. She's annoyed. They spend time together. Lots of time. He opens up. She opens up. They fall for each other. He's impulsive and protective. Then angst. And sadness. And heartbreak. And then a happily ever after.Loved, loved, loved this book. Five stars!

This book was just as delightful as Spoiler Alert, and I adored every minute of it!

Alex Woodroe is an actor with a starring role on a very popular fantasy TV show, which is in its final season. He's very unhappy with his character's trajectory, but there's not much he can do about it. Except write fan fiction fixes. Anonymously, of course. One night, he gets into a bar fight and gets arrested. Everyone is mad at him, but no one actually asked him what happened. The showrunners assign him a keeper, who is the cousin to one of them. She is to stay by his side any time he leaves set or his house, and keep him out of trouble until the final season has aired.

Lauren Clegg is a former ER therapist who is currently on a break after burning out. She's on vacation when she gets rooked into helping her (hated) cousin by becoming a minder for his misbehaving star. But she realizes pretty much right away that Alex is more than what he seems. As they spend time together, and become friends, they begin to care for each other more than either of them expected.

Alex is the traditional handsome Hollywood heartthrob, and Lauren is a very short, very round woman. They're technically working together. They have very different lifestyles. To the outside world, it would seem they don't "fit". But, they really have a lot in common, and they care about each other so much. I loved watching their soft, slow, unexpected descent into love, and how they both ultimately embraced it.

Both Alex and Lauren had family drama (past and/or present) that caused them pain and worry, and that helped them relate to each other even more. They also each had a great best friend to help them keep their wits about them: Marcus (the hero from Spoiler Alert) for Alex, and Sionna for Lauren. They had great friendships, and really used their BFFs as sounding boards, and support systems, as needed.

Alex and Lauren both faced job uncertainty, weird family dynamics, self-image and self-worth conflicts, and their unexpected feelings for each other. They muddled along mostly gracefully, though not without issue, and I appreciated each of their self-reflections when things did go awry. This book was so sweet, and soft, and sexy, and I adored every minute of it! Alex and Lauren were perfect for each other, and were a joy to read. I can't wait for more from this author!!

This book is so appropriately named - it brings ALL THE FEELS. I laughed my butt off and swooned and cried, all in the span of a few hours.

We first met Alex in Spoiler Alert. The initial impression is that he's an off the rails actor heading for disaster, but the reality is that he's a deeply loyal, protective, huge hearted guy who, yeah, has a bit of an impulsive streak. He's seen some tragic things happen to people he loves, and those events have really shaped who he is and how he reacts to events in his life. The guilt he carries and how it shapes every aspect of his life is heartbreaking, especially for such a charismatic character.

Lauren is a character I can relate to in so many ways. She worked as an ER therapist - working the crap shifts, working holidays, working weekends, etc. because she's unmarried and childless and wants to ensure her coworkers get to spend those special times with their families. After years of this (plus the stress that comes from dealing with mental health issues in an ER in the best of circumstances) she's burned out and just needs a break. She's also a very plus size woman who has spent her life enduring insults and mistreatment from strangers and loved ones alike. She's so accustomed to making herself physically and mentally miserable so she doesn't make anyone else uncomfortable that she doesn't even realize she's doing it. It's agonizing to see how Lauren treats herself and how she allows others to treat her, if for no other reason than I so clearly recognize it.

Alex and Lauren have a rocky start, but soon develop a friendly rapport, Their romance is very much a slow burn, but it's such a fun, satisfying read. I loved all of the little fanfic snippets and the group text messages and other insights that added to this story. I was a big fan of Spoiler Alert, but this one probably tops it. Overall just a nice, fun, feel good read! (less)

First off, a huge thanks to NetGalley and Olivia Dade for providing me with an ARC in return for an honest and fair review. I'm just getting back into officially reviewing books and I appreciate the kindness.

Now on to 'All The Feels", We hear this a lot lately, that representation matters, representation in all forms, being able to see yourself as the heroine, or main love interest of a story isn't something you expect when you're short, round and not necessarily conventionally attractive. I had high hopes after reading the first book in this series, Spoiler Alert, then I saw the cover for this one and saw me, Lauren looks so much like me, I feel like I am Lauren, I am fragile, geeky, loving, ride or die.

This is going to hopefully be as spoiler free as I can make it. The story overlaps its timeline with the first book, so we see all of our fave Gods of the Gates friends, and we explore their group dynamic and friendship further.

The plot is full of all your favorite bits from various tropes. and we delve into even more tropes through fanfiction and AO3. It's the Olivia Dade we all love, her pacing, her cadence, very specific fandom references that I think we can all recognize and appreciate. And honestly, as a person who was really displeased with the last couple of seasons of GoT please know that no scorn is spared for their GoG counterparts the dragging is epically enjoyable.

The main characters are complex, and layered and it all unfolds at an excellent pace, popping in some surprises along the way. It's a must read if you enjoyed the first in the series, are a geek, love fanfic, or never thought you were the type of gal someone would pine for. 10/10 would recommend.

This was a cute read. It took me a little to get into, but I did enjoy reading this cute story. I love how she isn’t what you’d consider an average beauty, but Alex doesn’t care. He thinks she the most beautiful girl, even with her beak like nose. You can come from different backgrounds and look like you shouldn’t fit, but in the end, love knows no bounds.

Olivia Dade strikes again! Absolutely adored this book. I loved Lauren and Alex in their wonderful imperfections and their fierce love. I adored the plot and the hardships the couple faced, the insecurities they had to overcome, and how putting themselves first was a life lesson for them both.

Really enjoyed this and laughed out loud in several places! I love romances where both people have a career that matters. Love how equal the two are despite the apparent inequalities of wealth and looks, and I also love how grounded Wren is. It’s great to see a male main character cope with ADHD, and great to see a plus size female main character who is comfortable in her own skin. I also loved the playful way the novel takes a mad road trip through some favourite (only one bed!) and some bizarre (sex pollen?!) romance/fan vic tropes!
