Through Dark Storms (Beneath Black Sails Book 4) Kindle Edition

4.4 4.4 out of 5 stars 472 ratings

No home. No hope. No safe harbours. Just one final clue.

Castaway on a desert island, Vice has lost everything and everyone. If she’s going to live – truly live, she must not only fight to survive but also battle her inner demons. Only then can she escape her island… and her past.

Without the woman he loves, Knigh is unravelling like a frayed rope. And around him, the refugee fleet that fled the battle of Nassau is low on food, water, and options. As the Royal Navy closes in, they must keep one step ahead or all they sacrificed will be for nothing.

But finding their way back to each other isn’t the end of their problems. With thousands of lives at stake, they can’t run forever. They need the impossible: a home that’s safe from Mercia’s vengeance.

Maybe, just maybe, the answers lie not in their future, but in the past and its long-lost treasure.

If you love Sarah J Maas’s gut-wrenching romances and the adventure of Pirates of the Caribbean, you’ll love the breathtaking conclusion to this new adult fantasy series.

Read Through Dark Storms today and discover a centuries-old mystery, an epic happily ever after, and what else besides the kraken lurks in the deep.

I write fantasy stories with adventure, intrigue, darkness, and a heaping spoonful of steamy romance. My favourite tropes include enemies-to-lovers, forced proximity, and tricky fae bargains that just might be more trouble than they’re worth.

I live in Nottingham, Robin Hood country, so it’s no surprise I write about characters who don’t always play by the rules. When I’m not living in a fantasy world, I’m sketching, lifting weights at the gym, or spending time with my husband and our two troublesome cats. I love stationery, coffee, and cocktails – you can find those on my Instagram (@claresager).

I thoroughly enjoyed this series. It was fun and a great story. I loved how it had a few characters from the previous series. Now I have to go back and reread that last book to see what Kat said to her.

I’m sad to see this series end while also being thoroughly pleased by the ending. Vice and Knigh are characters dear to my heart and I loved going on their adventures. The slow progression of their relationship was wonderful to witness. I also liked that they had individual character growth as well. While the two main characters were good I also liked a few of the side characters. Anyone else #TeamKraken? Overall this was an enjoyable end to an epic adventure!

I love this author!! I cannot wait until A Promise of Lies comes out! Just the right balance of story-telling AND spicy romance for me! I love her characters and the world she’s built around Albion. Definitely one of my faves!!

A wonderful journey of pirates, battles, magic, traitors, and treasure! Many twists and turns, full of suspense and surprises! Highly recommended! I even got my HEA!

Overall I enjoyed this series and am happy with the conclusion, but this book was a letdown. The previous 3 volumes and the prequel did a good job handling social issues relevant to the setting, but this one just slaps the reader in the face with modern virtue signling. I found it jarring and irritating in this otherwise fun adventure story. Also you'd think someone who claims to stand for representation would actually flesh out their lgbt characters and make them an active part in the story. Instead, she clearly just threw them in here as tokens. I don't regret reading this series, but I don't think I'd read it again or anything else by this author since her writing seems to have gone downhill.

I have absolutely loved this series, even through the parts that bothered or annoyed me. Clare is an amazing writer and the ending here was near perfection. The one disappointment is that she introduced characters that had meaning to the story, to Vice's story (you'll know exactly what I'm referring to when you read it), and then did nothing with them. If you weren't going to address it or use it for something, why bring it up at all?? I'm truly happy that she was true to her word and gave them the happy ending they deserved, it made for a great end to an even greater adventure and I have already started recommending the series to others.

I couldn’t put this book down after making my way through the series. The character development has been wonderful and I couldn’t have asked for a happier ending.

This series had me hooked!! Fantastic world building, deeply layered characters, spice, and adventures. The character growth in this series was fantastic, and the writing was not only interesting but also grammatically sound! V+K forever 💞

5.0 out of 5 stars Vice and Knigh will always be OTP!

Clare Sager does not disappoint with the final installment in the Beneath Black Sails series. She knew exactly what was needed to complete the series and for the two to finally get their HEA while staying true to the characters and the story. The enemies to lovers, to enemies, to friends, to forevers is long and wrought with many perils including sharp weapons, crashing waves and dangerous sea creatures.

Through Dark Storms picks up shortly after the major cliffhanger ending of Under Black Skies - I forgive you now. This book doesn't let up whatsoever but it has everything: fun, tension, discovery, sarcasm, family, grief, love, spice and an epic sea battle. Everyone receives what they're due in the most satisfying way, that also allows for future character exploration!

Vice and Knigh will always be OTP (Husband, if you're reading this, I want to dress as them for Halloween one day pleaseeeee!) Clare has burrowed them deep into my soul and I will never be the same. The dual POV elevates their story to a complex emotional journey with the push and pull between the two MCs. Each and every event in the series, whether happy or crushing, is necessary to get Vice and Knigh to their ending.

The intricacies of Clare's characters is something that stands out the most when I think of BBS. The heroine's journey (vs. hero's journey) allows for the most spectacular exploration of Vice as a person who doesn't need anybody, to someone who can and wants to lean on those she loves. The heavy sorrow Knigh holds close to his chest is slowly lifted as he gains freedom of emotion, structure and expectations. These two are ruthless, stubborn and addicting!

While I'm sad to see the conclusion of the series, it will live on as a forever favourite.

P.S. I think my husband loves this series even more than I do!

5.0 out of 5 stars I don’t even like pirates…

My love affair with Clare Sager and the Sabreverse started when my greedy little magpie eyes came across the cover for Kiss of Iron. I thought ‘That’s a beautiful cover, blurb sounds interesting, sample was good…eh let’s give it a crack’.
Fast forward 6 weeks and I’ve been taken in hook, line and sinker by all the characters throughout the extended universe.
The latest dive in to the beautiful world created by Clare was the Beneath Black Sails series, of which this book is the finale.
I just…cant…even. This series was a resounding chefs kiss! All the feels all the emotions and so much fun too.
I have never been one for the pirate life, aside from a deep seated and confusing love of Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean as a kid, but wow have I turned convert after this series.
TDS completes the story of Vice, Knigh and their assorted friends and family (and occasional frenemy) perfectly, the HEA was well earned and it felt a fitting conclusion for this chapter in the Sabreverse.
Clare Sager is a master at emotions, making you laugh, cry, scream with frustration and then finally just sit there staring in to nothing thinking that was a bloody good story, I’m going to miss those guys.
If like me you wouldn’t class yourself a fan of the pirate genre, please don’t pass this series by, it’s so much more than that.
Yet, if my entreaty cannot sway you…there’s a blinking Kraken and a squad of sassy seafaring cats!! What more could you actually want?

5.0 out of 5 stars wow what a series

Absolutely loved this series, head strong protagonist with a slow burn love story that had to overcome so many hurtles. Sager knows how to sew together a complex story with wonderful banter that will make you laugh, cry and blush! Really great mix of adventure, story building and spice. Also liked how this overlaps with a kiss of iron. Can’t wait to smash through all of her books.

This is a cute and satisfying conclusion to a great pirate adventure full of magic and action. I am really happy that I gave this series a chance!

After the destruction of Nassau, Vice ends up alone on a deserted island, where her days are counted if she cannot find a way back to Knigh and her friends. Rest assured, they are not separated for too long, but just long enough for us to long for their reunion and get really anxious about it. As soon as they are all back together, they continue their quest for Drake's mythical treasure with even more fervor because they now need to care for all the survivors from Nassau and find a safe place before the Navy catches up with them.

The pace is great, as in the previous books, and even though this book is almost 500 pages long, it didn't feel slow or long. There were action and stressful situations, as well as steamy scenes and more serious moments.

SPOILERS BELOW. Absolutely brilliant series.I see that there are going to be books for some of the secondary characters but surely there has to be another book on Vice & Knigh. At Court Vice saw her father a Fae who subsequently sent letters to Vice which she did not open. Please follow this storyline as there must be a lot that can be explored.
