Terrace VI: Forbidden Fruit (Purgatorio Book 2) Kindle Edition
Welcome to the Sixth Terrace of Dante’s tower of Purgatory, serving up sins of gluttony in an eternal banquet. On this carefully curated menu you’ll find children stuffing themselves to death, a forgotten saviour gorging on cheeseburgers between bareknuckle rounds on the roadhouse circuit, wealthy socialites revel in an orgiastic alien feast, and the end of days as seen through an apocalyptic carnival of indulgence. Excessive consumption also manifests in darker hungers, for cruelty, for distraction, or possession. A pair of grifters bent on having it all chase a Scottish leprechaun across the English countryside, a newly deceased addict vies for the attention of Heavenly Higher Ups, degenerate poker players gamble with unforeseen currency, and when an old lady swallows a fly, it’s just the beginning…
Featuring nine stories of grotesque appetite and glorious excess from a gory gaggle of creators, they say too much of anything is poison, yet these condemned swallow each piece of forbidden fruit while reaching for the next, never to be sated. They can’t help themselves. Can you?
Stories and art by: Mike Thorn (Darkest Hours, Shelter for the Damned), Robin van Eck (Rough), Eddie Generous (Camp Summit, What Lurks Beneath, Behemoth Rising), Julie Hiner (Final Track), Konn Lavery (Mental Damnation Series, Rutherford Manor Series), Cam Hayden (Futility, Red Flag), Sarah L. About the authors
Konn Lavery is a Canadian author whose award-winning fiction has reached the bestselling charts on Amazon and in his hometown, Edmonton. His work has been described as uncanny and immersive and frequently falls under the Dark Fantasy and Horror genres. Each of his stories are housed within the expanding universe known as the Macrocosm spanning across time and space.
He has been recognized by reviewers such as Reader Views, Readers’ Favorite, Literary Titan, and by award programs such as indieBRAG, The Wishing Shelf Book Awards, eLit Awards, and Dan Poynter’s Global Ebook Awards. His work has also been curated into the Edmonton Public Library’s Capital Press collection.
Konn started writing stories at a young age while being a homeschooled vegetarian, enthralled with storytelling. After graduating college, he began professionally pursuing his writing with his first release, Reality, in 2012 while balancing his graphic design business. Konn’s visual communication skills have been transcribed into the formatting and artwork found within his publications, supporting his fascination with transmedia storytelling.
Julie Hiner spent endless hours during her childhood lost in the pages of books. She could tune out anything and immerse herself in the worlds of fictional characters for an entire day. The only thing that took precedence over a book was her Walkman. To this day, Julie is a hardcore 80s rocker at heart. In high school, her favorite classes were science, math and English. During this time, her love for writing surged.
After securing a solid education in computer science at the University of Calgary, Julie spent over a decade working on large scale network systems. On a break between contracts, Julie followed her longing to finish a book she had been writing in bits and pieces. After finishing her non-fictional book portraying her personal story of facing fear and anxiety on a bicycle in the European mountains, she did some deep soul searching. This is when she decided to write a novel.
For a long time, Julie has been fascinated with the complexity of the dark mind of the serial killer and obsessed with trying to understand how murder can occur. Finding inspiration at a talk given by a local homicide detective, Julie surged down her new path to writing a dark, serial killer novel. Two books, including a newsletter exclusive teaser, have been published in her dark crime (80s metal murder) series. Several of her short horror stories have been published in various collections. Her favorite parts of her new found writing process are the detailed research, creating an in-depth character and digging deep into his, her or its mind, and unleashing her inner artist on photos to create the cover and marketing material.
Robert Bose grew up on a farm in southern Alberta spending every free moment reading Tolkien, Heinlein, Leiber, Asimov, and whatever else he could get his grubby paws on. His genre spanning fiction has been published in a variety of anthologies and his first short story collection, Fishing with the Devil, is now available from Coffin Hop Press. Robert is currently word bashing a supernatural mystery novel while ultra-running, annoying his wife, raising three troublesome children, and working as the Director of Innovation for a small Calgary software company.
