Traci Hunter Abramson knows how to write a good story. This is the second installment featuring Tyler and Amaliya. The series has fascinated me as it details the process of training to be an Olympian. The hours of practice and film that the athletes endure is inspiring. Tyler and Amaliya are a fun couple to read about. They are a perfect pair on and off of the ice.
Amaliya has recently taken up the sport after receiving training for ballet and ice hockey since she was a child. During the story, she has a few setbacks that threaten their dream of competing in the Olympics. Tyler shows great patience in helping her mentally and physically.
This is a story that leaves you feeling good. The characters are fantastic, the plot is so good, and the setting is inspiring.
I highly recommend this book.
While the couple may have fallen in love in the first book, this is where that relationship is tested, on and off the ice. It was a beautiful, sweet romance of making mistakes, building relationships, and overcoming obstacles together. Since it's a romance novel, it's a given that they make it to the Olympics in Leningrad, but the journey is incredible and moving. Will the Soviets find a way to keep them from competing? Will they make it on the podium? Will Amaliyah find her mother's family there? There's a lot of suspense and excitement.
It was a bonus to watch the men's figure skating tonight while trying to finish the novel because it gave me insight into the minds, habits, and obstacles the skaters are dealing with right now. I have a much better appreciation for the stress their minds and bodies are under, especially those called in at the last moment due to COVID protocols. This novel will make you respect and appreciate everything you see on the ice.
My only complaint about the novel was that I wanted it to end sooner so Abramson would have to write an entire third novel to cover their time in Leningrad. But you can't have everything. This is a beautiful series and I'd love to see more stories!

Book 2 in the Dream's Edge series
Rating: 4/5
Wow. I loved reading this story during the Olympics! Nathan Chen just won Olympic gold and redeemed the horror of his first Olympics four years ago. Who doesn't like an incredible story of redemption? I loved continuing this story with Tyler and Amaliya chasing after their dreams of Olympic gold. This story moved a lot faster than the first one to get them to the the Olympics. I liked how the author tackled more of the mental aspects of figure skating. I liked how she addressed the mind games from other competitors and all the things that come with celebrity. However, I wish she had included something about seeking counseling after trauma or talking with a sports psychologist. I feel like it was a missed opportunity in an otherwise authentic and exciting script.
Highly recommend if you enjoy the not-so-easy journey to reaching your dreams and dealing with all the obstacles along the way.
My thanks to the author and publisher for providing me with an ARC of the book. All opinions expressed here are entirely my own. No positive review was expected and no compensation received.
I love the characters and the story so much!!!
Ice skating. Romance. All the other things.
Excited for book 3!
