4.3 4.3 out of 5 stars 8,681 ratings

Every harvest moon, the Witch Collector rides into our valley and leads one of us to the home of the immortal Frost King, to remain forever.

Today is that day—Collecting Day.

But he will not come for me. I, Raina Bloodgood, have lived in this village for twenty-four years, and for all that time he has passed me by.

His mistake.

Raina Bloodgood has one desire: kill the Frost King and the Witch Collector who stole her sister. On Collecting Day, she means to exact murderous revenge, but a more sinister threat sets fire to her world. Rising from the ashes is the Collector, Alexus Thibault, the man she vowed to slay and the only person who can help save her sister.

Thrust into an age-old story of ice, fire, and ancient gods, Raina must abandon vengeance and aid the Witch Collector or let their empire—and her sister—fall into enemy hands. But the lines between good and evil blur, and Raina has more to lose than she imagined. What is she to do when the Witch Collector is no longer the villain who stole her sister, but the hero who’s stealing her heart?

The Witch Collector is book one in a thrilling romantic fantasy series, perfect for fans of Naomi Novik, Sarah J. Maas, and Jennifer L. Armentrout.

I absolutely devoured this book by @charissaweaksauthor in about a day because I couldn’t get enough! This was my first time reading with a non-speaking main character (Raina uses sign language to communicate) and I love how effortless it was to follow along. The tension between Raina and Alexis was ✨chefs kiss✨ and I was just begggggging for a one bed situation by the end of the book. No spoilers here though, you’ll have to read the book to find out 😮‍💨🤭I’m already halfway through book two and I love it EVEN MORE.10/10 would tell my dentist about it. • 🌶️🌶️

I did not realize that I never wrote my review for The Witch Collector until now.

I read the Witch Collector a little over a year ago. The the moment I started reading it I knew that it would be a favorite of mine for years to come. When it was released in audiobook format I jumped at the opportunity to listen to my favorite story again.

The Witch Collector follows Raina Bloodgood a witch from a small village in the Northern Kingdom of Tiressia as well as the Witch Collector himself, Alexus Thibault. The general premise being that every year the Witch Collector goes to the villages and "collects" the stronger witches. He brings them back to the castle where they serve to protect Tiressia and the Frost King (Colden). They become Tiressia's Witch Walkers. The witches of the village know little of what comes of the witches that are taken from them so when Raina's sister, Nephelle, is taken to be a Witch Walker, it leaves Raina with hatred and anger towards The Frost King and the Witch Collector who took her from their family. Raina sets out with a plan to take down both the Witch Collector and The Frost King but after a string of events The Witch Collector, Alexus, and Raina wind up on the same side going against a greater evil, The Prince of the East.

This book, this series, will always hold place in my heart.

I LOVE the character development that Charissa Weaks gives us. Our FMC Raina grew up fairly sheltered in her small village in the Northern Kingdom. What she knows she has been told in stories from her parents or other villagers. She is not naive in that she does not understand that there are risks and evil out in the greater of the world but she also does not see that there is more to her predicament than the notion that she wants her sister and her family back together. I do love that Raina has always been a little rebellious. She was always the virago that Alexus saw in her, from the time we see her stealing bread, to the weapons/training sessions with Hel and her secret magick use. But once Raina truly understands The Frost King, her sister, Alexus and the Prince of the East, she becomes a force to be reckoned with. Raina with knowledge and power is amazing!

Alexus, oh wonderful, Alexus. Our MMC has a traumatic past that we only begin to see the tip of in book one. For Raina he is gentle, kind and protective but to others he is the hammer to which The Frost King wields. From the start we know that Alexus is out to help guide Raina back to the castle, to Nephelle and Colden, but when at first the mission is out of duty, that changes as they get to know one another. Alexus has so many layers and secrets and it is beautiful to see them melt away for Raina.

The slow burn, tension and energy between Raina and Alexus is palpable and the way that Charissa conveys how they feel to each other and to themselves is heart achingly beautiful.

Out side of the character development the World development is phenomenal. There is so much information that is provided on the work of Tiressia, their gods and the Kingdoms but it is done it such a way that it captivates you as a read.

I do not often read books more than once. I sometimes find it hard starting at book 1 knowing how the following books end or knowing that the series is not over yet. I was worried that after already know the plot and ending to the three current books in the series that I would be bored without the excitement of "what will happen next" but I was COMPLETELY wrong. All the feelings came right back and it solidified my love for this book and this series.

I urge anyone that has not tried to read The Witch Collector to do so. You will not be disappointed.

The Witch Walker was a refreshing fantasy romance for me to read! I really enjoyed learning about the world and the plot, even though a little slow, moved along at a pace that in the end made sense and worked well.

Raina was the type of FMC that I enjoy reading about and Alexus was a swoon worth MMC. Their slow burn worked for me and I enjoyed the quest/close proximity aspect to their relationship development. Also, Alexus would do anything for Raina and that made me like him even more.

I also I really enjoyed the inclusion of sign language in this story. Including characters who sign is a micro troupe that I really love in books. Weaks did a fantastic job with how she used sign language as dialogue, and I LOVED how she included facial feature descriptions along with that dialogue.

There were twist and turns I did not see coming and I appreciated that as a reader. Sometimes things can be overdone in fantasy books, but The Witch Walker kept me guessing the entire time. I can't wait to see what happens to our group of characters in the next book.

Loved the story of Raina Bloodgood and the Witch Collector. Beautifully written with great descriptions and world building that make me feel like I'm right there in the middle of the action. It's a great enemies to lovers, forced proximity fantasy romance filled with magic and actiona and drama. It's a slow burn, but the sexual tension and chemistry are scorching hot!

Alexus was the dark and mysterious alpha male that you can't help but fall for. He's rough around the edges and full of secrets but also severely loyal and so caring, especially towards Raina.

Raina is a bad ass female lead that we all would love to be. She's determined and headstrong and feels strongly about family and peace. I loved the growth that is shown for her as the story progresses and as she learns the truth.

The antagonist is one we love to hate, the despicably evil Prince of the East. Also had strong side characters with her sister, best friend and the King.

Looking forward to reading the second book and would highly recommend to others looking for an epic fantasy read!

I liked that she used sign language. I liked the magic system and the lore. I liked Raina for the most part. I felt Alexus was lacking in personality. The story was rushed and messy. The author did not allow time for things to unfold. Which cheapened the read. She repeated herself, several times, exact sentences I assume were meant to seem poetic in its repetition (if not it was highly unimaginative), but it just fell flat and became annoying. The storyline seems equally messy and underdeveloped. I struggle to keep invested. The most interesting thing to happen whas the dagger through the chest, but that was quickly neutralized. The first thought I am left with is meh. Is it the best I’ve read, not by a landslide. Was it the worst? No. It was ok. Less than mediocre but ok. Plus for good description of chlothing.

This book started out as a buddy read but I quickly went off script and read ahead on my own. I got pulled in right away and the ride didn’t slow down from there! This book encompasses what I love about the fantasy genre: there are no limits to the magic, plot, and world-building. Throw in Charissa’s beautiful writing and you’ve got yourself a 5-star read. I went through all the emotions in this story in the best way!
Characters: Raina, our FMC is smart, resilient, empathetic, headstrong, caring and kind. I also love that Raina is unable to speak and therefore uses sign language to communicate. It also means she uses her hands to wield magic. Alexus, our MMC, is honourable, powerful, humble, honest, and selfless. The side characters were amazing and well-developed.
Plot: As is often the case with high fantasy, the story and world-building is complex and intricate, so you need to have your wits about you. The author recommends making note of anything that stands out because she left many breadcrumbs in this first book! Might be intimidating for some, but I ate it up!
Writing: Charissa has a beautiful way of writing that vividly conveys emotion. Nothing felt like filler, every word was put there for a reason. My favourite parts were when Raina or Alexus described their feelings for each other. At the same time, descriptions or battles were just as vivid, so please check the content warnings, available on the author’s website.

The Witch collector

"No, i didn't save you. I only helped you save yourself ".

Complimenti all'autrice per l'originalità. "Fulmanesh, iyuma tu lima, opressa volz nomio, retam tu shahl".
