WAR CHILD: The Ultimate Predator Awakens Kindle Edition

4.3 4.3 out of 5 stars 658 ratings

From the author of the bestselling Vengeance from the Deep series …

A series of gruesome slayings are attributed to a bear that escaped from a nearby lab.

But when local detective Scott Pine discovers the 1,200-pound Kodiak ripped to pieces, he realizes his problems have just begun.

In 1922, an unethical experiment in Florida spawned a creation so taboo and heinous that it was euthanized shortly after birth. In the years to follow, the bizarre project from Orange Park would find its place among urban legends

. . . until 2001.

The Personification of Death

Grief-stricken over the loss of his wife and daughter during the September 11 attack, genetic scientist Jim Randle seeks revenge. His vengeance comes with the discovery of the century-old hybrid remains which hold the genetic key to completing his latest work—the most prolific killing machine the world has ever known. A creature capable of eradicating terrorist camps on foreign soil without leaving a trace of U.S. involvement. But when Randle’s ungodly creation gets loose stateside, there’s one question that no one can answer …

How do you stop something engineered with an insatiable lust to kill, and is impervious to the weapons of man?

Detective Pine better figure it out, fast.

The human neurons multiplying in the creature’s brain are making it smarter and deadlier by the hour.

If you are a fan of Jurassic Park, The Predator or Alien, War Child might be for you!

This is a fantastic book. The only bad part is that the gorilla goliath didn’t fare so well I wish they would’ve kept him alive.

Okay, this book desperately needs a solid editor but it was so much fun.
Great action, violence and humor.
I loved the diversity of characters.
I will say the excessive use of Whap and Wham was a little annoying and the ending was a little disappointing.
Overall a very fun read.

Our first read by author Russ Elliott and WOW! was it Darkly EPIC!!! Never, EVER, a dull moment WAR CHILD tucked me into a roller coaster of blood, entrails, dis-membered corpses and GOREGOREGORE GALORE! The plot has twist upon twist upon twist with a main character I found myself rooting for as he fights for Love and Country and to rid the world of a man-made Evil. The author was kind enough to supply a helpful hint and I found myself trying to implement The da Vinci Sleep Method so I could read War Child almost without sleep...almost. Maybe I'll have the method down by the end of the next book by Russell Elliott, it's worth a try!
~ ENJOY!!!!

This was a great story. Got me caring about the characters from the start. The protagonist was great. A detective who got picked on because of his size, but that was capable and dedicated, without being a super cop. The love interest was also an interesting character. Rubbed me the wrong way in a couple of places, but that's OK, I don't like everyone I meet. The story was very engaging and trapped me from the first chapter. Now, this particular book needs editing. A lot of editing. I can overlook a mistake here and there, but changing the name of one of the main characters for one of the victims and then back again, nope, sorry, that's unacceptable. There were other mistakes that made it through. Silly things even, like spelling on as 0n, yes, with a zero. These mistakes pull you right out of the story and take away from an otherwise very good novel. Now, please be advised: spoiler alert!!!

The ending is incredibly soft. I saw the pages dwindling and figured the ending would be abrupt, but I got no ending. Nothing gets settled. Not a good way to finish a book. If the idea is to make this into a series... This is not the way.

Fast paced and enjoyable. Reads like your watching an old sat afternoon monster flick. I liked the subject matter and found it very interesting. The fear of science getting out of hand and mankind creating the thing that could lead to its own demise is current and relevant and frightening. The action sequences are very Hollywood but exciting and fun. All in all an entertaining read.

Two errors found.
Wendy became Michelle became Wendy. Who was Michelle?
I didn't make a note of where the second error is, too interested in what is going to happen. It is somewhere around the (early) middle. It is noticeable.
Enjoyed reading the book.

You can count on Mr. Elliott to make his creatures big and bad. This one isn't as big as his usual pets but oh brother is he mean. Am i the only one who sees The Predator in this creation apart from the gorilla features.
Can't wait for the next one, this man is on my auto buy.
