A totally different kind of story but still a very good story. Captain Banks and his team are a great cast of characters. This book wouldn't be so good without them. If you like thrillers then you will like this book.

The Operation books series is well written, good creature fun with well developed characters and logical plots. Read the whole series !

Operation London is another S-Squad adventure in terror this time beneath London's streets in their railway tunnels. Can Wiggo and Captain Banks destroy it before it consumes all of London. A great read.

A sequel to a short story the author published in an early collection, the story is embedded in the work so those who have not read it can understand the gelatinous monster’s genesis.

This time the monster has escaped a governmental underground research station and a good chunk of London’s population becomes blob food.

The story is good, but unlike a horror tale, the story focuses on the logistical problem of dealing with the monster and not on the horror it creates. The S-Squad is never truly in danger so the reader becomes more interested in the soldiers’ solution to the problem than the question of survival. Still, I found it a good read.

William Meikle did a great job with this book. We never knew how it started and had a hell of a time stopping it. But for now it seems finished. And that all we can ask for. Just keep S-Squad available and ready for anything since they seem to have the brawn and know how to handle the bad things that want to come out at night to play. I've read all the books by William Meikle and will be going back to type in my reviews to the other books, as earlier I've just left STARS. Now I will go back and explain the reason I've left the stars, not just in his book, but many others. So this book and he series this falls under should be definitely read by all, I'm also hoping for more. Cynthia Terrones

I can see the author has produced a number of “S-Squad” books, so I probably need to add some to my ‘To be read’ list. This book has a straight forward plot, a successfully claustrophobic setting, easy to follow characters, and a great 50’s monster movie feel. In fact, there is a definite X The Unknown/Quatermass tingle here, with maybe a touch of classic Dr. Who. There is even an oblique reference to a beloved 1958 movie that made me chuckle. The author keeps the cast small enough to avoid reader confusion, and keeps the action going. A tremendous book? No. But it kept me entertained and wanting to see what happened next, had no padding, and left me feeling I had my money’s worth. That’s good value. I’m not sure a team of soldiers can do what these did fueled by nothing but cigarettes and whisky, and vital information does just seem to drop into their laps magically, but don’t slow down to ponder that: “It has to be stopped!”

I'd almost given up hope on more S Squad, but thankfully Meikle never disappoints. The squad is back and bad as ever.
Action Is closer to home this time, chock full of the old school, Lovecraftian horror so well done by the author in other works.
Backed by Cpt Banks, Wiggins proves his mettle and his nerve in an all out assault on a threat against London.
Another keeper for the library. The squad just keeps on giving. Here's a peaty toast to the overworked heroes in uniform!

5.0 out of 5 stars Rache für William Wallace
Reviewed in Germany on April 29, 2022

4.0 out of 5 stars London Blob
Reviewed in Germany on January 4, 2022
