Review

A much needed message for today!
I am so blessed to have read
Acts of Compassion. The stories and lessons in it are so needed in these times we live in. It encouraged me to review my own efforts to show kindness and compassion including ones expressed with just simple words of encouragement. Some of the stories made me emotional as I evaluated how I would have responded if I was in such a situation.
One thing I love from these writers is the way the text is written. From the first page, you are brought in to the idea of compassion and how it's missing in our world today. I will be re-reading this at least once a year as a personal reminder to keep showing compassion, love and kindness to everyone around me. Thank you Michael & Linda Spangle for writing this book. It changed my life and my perspective.
J. Adjekum

Acts of Compassion is the right book for right now! Through careful examination of ways to be compassionate and barriers keeping us from that, Mike and Linda Spangle offer an antidote to the fear, frustration and even selfishness of today's times. The authors explain how compassion helps the giver as well as the recipient and they offer thoughtful examples, many from their own lives, of how compassion can work on individuals, organizations, and society as a whole. This is a book to savor and share. I can't recommend it highly enough. Laura Buseman, PhD, retired English professor and journalist

For those looking to improve their own lives as well as that of others,
Acts of Compassion is the perfect starting point. Compassion can literally change the world!

My 15 year old daughters and I take turns reading together at night and this was the latest book we read. It was easy to read and offered lessons in many inspiring and relatable stories. Both teens commented how much they liked it. It encouraged us to look at how we can make life better by looking for ways to lift others. Showing compassion to others doesn't have to be big and dramatic. Looking at someone in the eyes and smiling offers an experience of humanity and showing kindness. This was a wholesome book that even two semi-jaded teenagers got something from. I especially enjoyed the practical reflections section with helpful exercises. Notes and resources were provided for further exploration.

I was delighted to read this book, I have read and followed Linda Spangle for years and when this came out with her husband Michael, I knew it would be good !. It did not disappoint, just what was needed to remind me the importance of just that few minutes, few words or just time spent with or active listening to others, how it can change someone's day or life and change mine for the better to in the process. Easy read, well written and just so important in today's world, happy to recommend!!

“Acts of Compassion" is about bringing love and caring back into your life. There are many sections of the book where, as I read, I thought, I wish I knew that years ago. I feel as though I would have been more compassionate and understanding to so many more acquaintances, family and friends.

Some of their insights into how to speak with a person who is grieving the loss of a loved one will really help me as I attend the next visitation or funeral.
In addition, insights into how to offer a random act of kindness to a stranger who appears in need. Or in a workplace situation--how to listen and observe a co-worker who you don't get along with. Or speaking with and observing someone who appears depressed.

I hope that this book provides some insightful information that you can use.

This book was easy to read with lots of practical ideas that we can use in real life. The stories helped solidify the concepts presented. I especially liked the reflections on self-care and reminders that others have feelings and wishes in common with me and how to express caring toward them.

Every page, every word, every act in this book should be mirrored millions of times over by each human on our planet. If each of us took a few minutes each day to lift someone up instead of tearing down… what a wonderful world it would be. This book is worth the time to read and even place on a coffee table to pique interest ; )
