An FBI agent with a background in cryptography. A brilliant game maker bent on revenge. A deadly battle of wits and wills. An ingenious thriller from the Wall Street Journal bestselling author of The Cipher.

FBI agent and former military codebreaker Daniela “Dani” Vega witnesses a murder on a Manhattan sidewalk. The victim is chief of staff for a powerful New York senator. The assassin turned informant is Gustavo Toro. His code: hit the target and don’t ask questions. When Dani suspects a complex conspiracy, the only way to take down the mastermind is from the inside, forcing her to partner with Toro. Together they must infiltrate the inner circle at a remote facility.

Except it’s a trap. For all of them.

Locked in a subterranean labyrinth and held captive by an unseen host, Dani, Toro, and others must fight for their lives. Now Dani must stay undercover, unravel a bizarre conspiracy, and survive lethal puzzles. But will Toro be friend or foe? Because in this killer’s game, everything is real: the paranoia, the desperation, and the body count. And only one person can make it out alive.

From the Publisher

For fans of Squid Game and Criminal Minds, bestselling author Isabella Maldonado delivers the first book in a new series, featuring Daniela “Dani” Vega, an FBI agent whose life is on the line as she’s forced to crack codes and solve clues in a killer’s game. Maldonado drops twists just as fast as she drops bodies.

Dani witnesses a murder on the streets of New York. When she finally catches the assassin, hired hit man Gustavo Toro, the FBI cuts a deal with him to bring Dani undercover and behind the scenes of a conspiracy that runs deeper than they imagined—one run by Nemesis. When Dani and Toro, along with a network of hit men, are lured to a top-secret location, Dani must survive a series of deadly puzzles and keep her true identity a secret.

A Killer’s Game is a high-octane thriller set in an escape room filled with lethal tasks. This book has the definition of an intricate plotline. I was on the edge of my seat trying to unravel the multifaceted characters and motives.

,My thanks to Publisher Thomas & Mercer and NetGalley for pre-publication reading of this title.Publication date appears to be 1 June 2023.I have read several books by this Author. I have enjoyed them. This book is perfect for people who actually enjoy getting to figure out a bit of the ploton their own, and using their thoughts as the story progresses. In this first book of the newDaniela. Vega series, FBI Agent Vega witnesses the murder of an influential Chief of Staff toA US Senator. Gustavo Toro evolves from Assassin to informant and teams with Agent to wipehis slate, but he could not have any idea what the two of them will be up against in a very excitingwell written story of a horrible conspiracy and an evil man who uses a game of his own creation toeliminate everyone he blames for his misfortune, but Vega and Toro make discoveries that are beyondthe pale, and the body count begins,Dani is a strong character-one of the first to serve as an Army Ranger, and a force not to be taken lightly,or judged in error. I look forward to the next installment in the series. featuring a strong protagonist andwhat will certainly be an inventive, strong storyline. I highly recommend this book.

This was a really good book - full of action and a real page turner! Dani is a great character - feisty as they come with (she thinks) a lot to prove. Well-concieved and lots of fun to cheer on.

I loved the setting, and the twist at the end as to who the perpetrator was was terrific!

If you like fast-paced action, great storytelling, and lots of thrills, read A Killer's Game!

There are others in the series - can't wait for Dani's next adventure!

Mm, it was okay. Pretty standard and predictable, easy to read. Not really my cup of tea but not really my genre either. Very loose 3 stars for me. I didn’t enjoy the book but I didn’t dislike it either.

She sets you up for an emotional roller coaster ride. Her characters are real as life and can feel what they are going through.
A fantastic read, for a first book in this series.
A feel good ending, and I'm ready to start book 2.
With the aubile, you can picture it, as if it were a movie.
Read or listen to it, if you love murder and mystery.

I was trying to complete the 2023 Summer Kindle Challenge and one of the challenges was reading a book for Hispanic Heritage Month, A Killer’s Game happened to be on the list of books that would complete the challenge and by coincidence I had the book in my library, so A Killer’s Game became my introduction to Isabella Maldonado’s writing/story telling. I enjoy well-written law enforcement related thrillers and this book certainly filled that bill. Daniela Vega is a very well-developed character with plenty of baggage but enough fortitude to do whatever it takes to get the job done. The overall story is well laid out and very entertaining – especially since I was able to get the audiobook for a reasonable price and was able to listen to Almarie Guerra and Feodor Chin do an excellent job narrating this story. I enjoyed it enough to preorder the second book in this series and to pick up both the Kindle and audible copies of the first book in Isabella’s Nina Guerrera series. I guess after reading The Cypher I’ll have to decide which of these characters is my favorite.

A Killer's Game by Isabella Maldonado is a first read for me, but it definitely won't be the last! From the first page to the last, A Killer's Game was a twisted roller coaster of suspense and mystery that captivated me from the very beginning. I fell in love with Maldonado's character Daniela Vega, a sassy strong Latina FIB agent. She is so well-developed, you can almost touch her, as Maldonado puts Daniela through the cat and mouse chase to catch a villain! The action is fast-paced and if you don't stay focused, you could miss a vital clue. And then you, like the rest of characters might stay trapped in the "escape room from hell"!

Isabella Maldonado is a very visual writer. Her scenes are dramatic and are described in away that make the reader a participant rather than a observer. Which to me, a visual learner myself, increases the thrill ten- fold! I can't read a blueprint but I could SEE the layout of the escape room perfect! I may have gotten lost in some of the gamer/coder references, the sheer brilliance of the puzzles and other intricate details. But as soon as Isabella Maldonado explained through Daniela, I caught on again, and was right back absorbed into game! Isabella Maldonado has a magic touch with words! Her background in law enforcement shows in her word choices. Reading her sentences, her word choices, is like savoring a fine meal in a five star restaurant!

I am so impressed with Isabella Maldonado's work, I immediately wishlisted the rest of her books! I will need to buy more memory if I am ever going to be able to read all her books! Oh what a delightful problem!

If you haven't read A Killer's Game, RUN to your nearest DEALER! I guarantee you will be as thrilled as I was!

A KILLER’S GAME (Daniela Vega Book #1) by Isabella Maldonado is a gripping crime thriller that takes off like a rocket and never stops. This is the start of a new series featuring a Hispanic female FBI agent with a unique background in the U.S. Army Special Forces. This is an author introduced to me by Amazon’s First To Read program and I am looking forward to reading more of her books.

FBI Agent Daniela “Dani” Vega witnesses a murder right in front of her on the streets of Manhattan. When the killer is caught, it is learned he is only a part of a group of killers used in a conspiracy to enrich a powerful Senator. The only way to infiltrate this group is for Dani to team up with the murderer, Gustavo Toro, and while she successfully infiltrates the group, this new mission is a trap for them all set up by a brilliant game maker set on revenge.

In an underground converted missile silo rehabbed as a labyrinth, Dani and Toro and the other assassins must now fight each other with only one allowed to survive and leave. In this game everything is real, and the logic puzzles are lethal. Can Dani survive Nemesis’ ultimate revenge?

This is one of those thrillers that pull you in and then you cannot put it down. Dani is a strong, intelligent, competent, and yet vulnerable main character. All the secondary characters were believable, from her siblings to her FBI colleagues and all the antagonists as they are fleshed out, they never slowed the pace of the story. The plot, especially once all the assassins are in the maze, kept me on the edge of my seat and I was trying to solve the puzzles right along with Dani. This is not the usual FBI investigative procedural.

I am anxiously looking forward to more books in this series to see what Dani gets herself into next.
