Frost: A fae romance (Frost and Nectar Book 1) Kindle Edition
Every generation, the king holds a competition for Seelie queen. But for reasons he won’t explain, Torin is looking for a charade, not a real marriage. So when I drunkenly sling insults his way, I have his attention.
When Torin offers me fifty million to participate, I think, “What have I got to lose?” The answer turns out to be “my life,” because my competition will literally kill for the crown.
And the more time I spend with the seductive king, the harder it becomes to remember it’s all supposed to be fake. Now, my life—and my heart—are on the line.

"A steamy and fun slow burn, with a few moments that reminded me of what it would be like if Pride and Prejudice was set in Faerie."

Frost didn't disappoint. In fact, it was very entertaining and funny. A fae king who hosts a tournament to find a queen. The televised contest includes several events like a race through the enchanted forest and one-to-one dinner dates. One hundred one contestants for one coveted throne. Basically, it's the Bachelor Fae edition!
While most contestants are smitten with King Torin, Ava isn't impressed with him. Sure, she recognizes he is hot, but she couldn't care less about who he is. After being cheated on by her fiancee, she is taking a break from dating. Love is not on her agenda, which makes her Torin's ideal candidate. Because of a curse, he needs a wife he can't fall in love with.
The characters, the situations, and the tournament setting make for an amusing story, even amid the dangers threatening the Seelie kingdom. Plus, the banter between Ava and Torin is hilarious. The veil of mystery added an extra layer to the plot. Did I care that there was a cliffhanger? Nope. But now I'm curious about how the story will unfold.
I listened to GraphicAudio, which enhanced the overall experience. The audio was phenomenal, bringing Ava, Torin, and the myriad of secondary characters to life.
I am a sucker for a beautiful cover. I added this to my purchase list just because it is so gorgeous.
And it was a fun read. A unique fae adventure that throws reality television and the Seelie together.
I will be honest at first, I was less than interested. The heroine, Ava, is a mess when you first meet her. And with good reason, a Fae living in the mortal world, struggling as a bartender, finds her boyfriend mid-thrust with the new love of his life on her birthday. So she does what all rational women do she gets embarrassingly drunk at a bar. Unfortunately, this is the same night the Seelie King Torin goes out to invite 100 Fae women to compete for his hand at marriage in a contest. Ava, to her surprise, finds she has been selected as a contestant. A contest that will be televised to the mortal realm. But Ava hates the Fae and wants nothing to do with men or love. She tells Torin this in a very embarrassing way, through slurred words delivered with contempt. Which becomes a viral video.
While this sounds entertaining, it wasn't for me. Something about the entire first few chapters rubbed me the wrong way. But I kept reading, and I am glad I did.
Ava ends up entering the contest after King Torin offers her a deal. She will get 50 million dollars if she goes through with the contest. Because Torin has secrets. He has been cursed and can not love.
"I was cursed, and I had been my whole life. If I ever fell in love with my bride, she would die. And it would be my own touch that would kill her— freezing her to the marrow like the bleak landscape around us."
He must find a bride that can heal his country without worrying about love messing up the arrangement. Ava, the drunk desperate common Fae, is perfect.
“Well, that’s good, darling, because as I said, I’m looking for someone I can’t love, and so far, you are the perfect match.”
And as all things go, feelings develop when you least expect them.
“We are a match made in hell, but I have never wanted anyone more, Ava Jones,”
And I liked the chemistry between them but it wasn't enough somehow.
I wasn't wowed by this book but did enjoy it. The last part of the book was more entertaining for me. There was more wild and ruthless behavior that I have come to expect from Seelie, and I grew to like Ava. I cheered for her success. The ending left me wanting more, so I will be reading book two.

Wasn't bored, characters were easy to love.
Funny, fun, I teared up a bit.
Only reason I'm not giving it 5, I listened and read at the same time, and there were discrepancies between the book and audio that had me confused.
I always like books with Faeries in it and this was definitely no exception.
The storyline was good and I quickly liked the characters in the book.
I did predict the ending but I don't even mind. I'm just curious what this will mean for the next book!
I'm also definitely going to be looking for more books by this author!
