4.3 out of 5 stars 88 ratings

After being dumped by his boyfriend, spending the weekend alone wasn’t something Sam Braun was looking forward to. So, when the hairstylist that works next to his bookstore invites him to his hometown for the weekend, Sam jumps at the chance. Visiting the small town of Occident could be just what he needs to forget, at least for a few days.

Erik Thorne has lived his whole life in the same town where nothing new ever happens, and any stranger who comes to town is always a big deal. When his old friend Andy brings a friend home for the weekend, Erik is drawn to the man in a way that confuses him at first. But his curiosity about the gorgeous blond from the city gets the better of him, and he can’t resist spending more time with him.

Sam was hoping to forget his troubles when he meets Erik. While Erik can’t seem to think of anything besides the city boy with the bookstore he can’t wait to visit. Distance might not be the only thing that stands between them, as they find out admitting what you want isn’t always easy. #AgeGap, #MMRomance, #FriendsToLovers #OppositesAttract #SmallTownRomance #City/Country

Loved this! That in the shadow of pain of being dumped on New Year's Eve, Sam crawls out from under it with help from some friends. He was invited to a small town where he met the most beautiful cowboy, Erik. Erik was straight but asked Sam out. Erik fell for Sam right away. Except at a stop at a restaurant Erik got all in his head. It hurt Sam. But they still had fun together. Erik came to Sacramento and spent over a week. They started a game night for the businesses. He really was into all the customers and their lives. Erik asked him dancing. It was that night that Erik tells him he loves him but Sam doesn't say it back.
Will he? Does he go to Occident the next week to see Erik?
Will Erik come back to help in the shop and make Sam and customers happy?
    READ the book!

Sam had been dumped by his boyfriend New Years and was feeling down. A friend invited him to his small hometown for the weekend. They went to a bar where he met Erik. He was immediately attracted to him, but sure he was straight.
Erik thought he was straight til he met Sam.
This is a cute, low angst story of how a small town man and a city man workout their differences and fall in love.

Another wonderful addition to this series where small-town boys find their other half. City meets country once again when Sam Braun, owner of a bookshop, meets Erik Thorne, a country boy born and raised in the small town of Occident.

Sam’s bookstore is next to the hair salon that Andy works at and one morning Andy notices that Sam looks sad and questions him about what was wrong. Sam’s boyfriend decided to end their relationship on New Year’s Eve leaving him alone and tired of the dating scene.
Andy invites him to spend the weekend with him and his family and he decides to accept. He knows Link from all the times he visits Andy, but the rest of the family is unknown to him.

Once again, the first stop when reaching town is the bar where Sam sees a man that lights a fire in him. One of Andy’s friends Erik Thorne is also drawn to Sam only Erik is known to be straight. When Erik invites him to spend the next day with him driving around to visit interesting places, which are far, and few Sam is thrilled.

The day they spend together is wonderful and Erik doesn’t hesitate to reveal his attraction to Sam. Sam was sure Erik was straight, in fact Erik was sure he was straight till he saw Sam. Things went from good to bad when Erik took Sam out to lunch at one of his favorite places. People couldn’t stop staring and Erik panicked and asked for their food to go.

Erik’s actions convinced Sam that it would not work out for them, Erik is not out and embarrassed to even be seen having lunch with another man leaving Sam convinced that he would only be heartbroken if he continued to try to have a relationship with Erik he so desperately wanted.

A call from Erik asking to meet Sam in the city was a surprise but one Sam was only too happy to agree to. It was on Erik’s visit that he became a different person, relaxed, affectionate and revealing his feelings. Unfortunately, this was the city but what would happen when they were together in the small-town Erik called home.

A wonderful love story about a man who discovers what he really wants and is willing to fight for it and a man hesitant to give his heart for fear it will be broken.

It was fun to catch up with Link and Andy whose love just keeps growing while Erik and Sam want the same, but Sam is leery.

This series can be read alone but why miss out on a visit to a small town and learn what living in one is all about, not to mention romance.

Sam is upset and single for the new year and agrees to go with Drew to his small home town for a few days. Sam grew up in the city and is used to city life. Sam owns a bookstore and is happy with it. Sam agrees to go home with Andy because he does not want to sit at home alone. Sam goes to Occident and meets Drews friends. Erik walks in and up to Sam. Erik cannot keep his eyes off of Sam. Sams agrees to go out with Erik the next day. Erik is not sure how to act with Sam while other people are around. Was it a mistake to go to Occident???? Will Erik ever be comfortable in a relationship with Sam???.

    Try to Forget
    Small Town City Series
    By: BL Maxwell
    Narrated by: Jack Watson

This is an enjoyable and sweet small town meets city romance. After a break up Sam Braun is a little lost after his boyfriend breaks up with him, so Andy, the hairstylist next door to his shop, invites him to go with him to his hometown for the weekend. Sam meets Erik Thorne In Occident, Erik is an old friend of Andy and is a straight guy, or he was always straight until he met Sam, who he was drawn to and the feeling was mutual, both felt an instant attraction. Erik was a little hesitant at first, not only it all new to him, but he had to think of what people in his small town would think, something Sam does not have to deal with living and working in the city. It was great to watch these two get to know each other and navigate a new relationship, loved how easily Erik fit in to Sam’s life, both personally and in his bookstore. This fast moving, beautifully plotted has the perfect balance of drama, heartfelt emotions, and a wonderful romance. BL Maxwell, thank you for this fabulous story and emotional rollercoaster ride.

🎧📚🎧 Jack Watson did a great job bringing these characters to life and story to life. He set the perfect tone for the story and captured all the character’s emotions and projected them into his performance. Jack Watson is an entertaining storyteller and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for the great listen.

    Sweet, small-town feels

Back to Occident to meet the crowd and Andy again, but this time Andy takes his work neighbour home, Sam. As Sam had been dumped over the Christmas/New Year period, Andy thought he could do with a weekend break and a small-town welcome.

He was right. It was just what Sam needed and far more.

I loved this story so much, a gay awakening, a small-town feel with a huge heart. It's all about the feelings in this book. A simple romance that's told well. Very low angst, even the s*x is off the page. It really is about the insta-romance. Makes a change.
