Unbroken Bonds of Battle: A Modern Warriors Book of Heroism, Patriotism, and Friendship Kindle Edition

4.8 out of 5 stars 2,745 ratings

INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER!

Life only really starts when we start serving others.

For many people, military service isn’t simply a job. It’s a ticket out of a lonely society and into a family of enduring bonds.

In over a decade of working with veterans, Johnny Joey Jones has discovered the power of battle-forged friendships. Suffering a life-changing injury while deployed in Afghanistan, he faced a daunting recovery. But coming home would have been much harder without the support of his brothers and sisters in arms.

In Unbroken Bonds of Battle, Joey tells the stories of those very warriors, who for years have supported and inspired him on the battlefield and off. Through unfiltered and authentic conversations with American heroes in every branch of service, Joey tackles the big questions about life, loss, and, of course, hunting.

Powerful life lessons are woven throughout these personal oral histories. Also included is a scrapbook of beautiful candid photographs from the lives of these modern warriors.

A gorgeous patriotic keepsake, Unbroken Bonds of Battle reminds us of the costs paid by those who defend our freedom through unvarnished, inspiring tales of friendship.

Staff Sergeant (Ret.)

Joey Jones, USMC EOD

Combat-wounded Staff Sergeant (Ret.) Johnny “Joey” Jones turned a traumatic, life-changing disability into a personal mission to improve the lives of all veterans. Known to his friends as “Triple J,” Jones was raised in Dalton, GA and enlisted in the Marine Corps after high school. During his eight years of service, he worked as an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (bomb) Technician, deploying to both Iraq and Afghanistan on separate tours. During his last deployment to Afghanistan, Jones was responsible for disarming and destroying 80+ improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and thousands of pounds of other unknown bulk explosives. During that tour on August 6, 2010, he stepped on and initiated an IED, resulting in the loss of both of his legs above the knee and severe damage to his right forearm and both wrists. He recovered at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Washington D.C. Focusing on overcoming adversity, finding a positive perspective in dire situations, leaning on those around you, and finding strength in yourself and your community, Joey now serves at the Chief Spokesperson for Zac Brown’s Southern Ground and Military director and spokesperson for Camp Southern Ground. Joey regularly appears as an outspoken, yet insightful military analyst for Fox News.

Worthwhile read
4 out of 5 stars
Worthwhile read
Great stories from those who have put their country before themselves. The book is designed to either enjoy a few pages at a time or sit and read for an hour or 2. Triple J did a great job adding his thoughts along with the bios presented in the book. A good bang for the buck, he stayed away from pushing politics however some ideals were added. Worth the read, he did good for his first book.

You don’t need to have a military background or be veteran to appreciate this treasured gem. As I am a navy veteran, I will tell you that veterans are indeed a brotherhood and that sentiment is masterfully described in this wonderful book. There are 10 people portrayed in the book with the author providing insight to how there relationship developed and why they are in the book. Each individual has there own distinctive personality and there stories are down to earth. At times the reader will be led to tears or a lump in there throat at a minimum but it’s not all depressing — as I found a lot of positives about the human spirit. Unbroken Bonds of Battle will remain in my library because I know I’ll be rereading it. This is my highest compliment that I can offer.

Wow. Such bravery. Bonds in sports, bonds in battle. It takes a special person to want to diffuse IED’s. Knowing the enormous risk of severe injury or death. Of course we are grateful for these men. We need these men. And as such the bonds are deep and profound. AI might be a better choice. Bonding in sports also deep and not as risky. I get it. I wouldn’t do it. But you can only wonder at the calling. The yes..bravery.

    Very deep. Very personal.

I love stories written by our Vets about their experiences. JJJ has taken an uncommon approach in that his book highlights multiple heroes. I loved how it was written from a very personal perspective. There was no attempt to glamorize or inflate what these men and women did- there was no need. Each is a hero in their own way. I cried, I laughed, and my respect for our military grew. Books like this should be required in history class.

I admire Johnny Joey Jones and once I learned his book had been published, I could not wait to read it.

This is a poignant story about 10 veterans and their families, wartime service, and the impact their experiences had on them and others.

As a Vietnam veteran and retired Marine, these stories touched my heart and bring back thoughts an emotions from my own wartime experiences.

I recommend this book to family, friends, and others who are interested in learning what life in wartime service is like and the impact that service has on servicemen and women and their friends and families.

The stories show the bond between these warriors, their sacrifices, and the memories that they carry for their lifetime.
