A Vocation of Violence (A Fiona Mahoney Mystery Book 3) Kindle Edition

4.3 4.3 out of 5 stars 267 ratings

Fiona Mahoney’s past returns to haunt her present as a prizefighter from her hometown becomes the only suspect in a gruesome, high-society murder.

No one in London knows what befell Fiona’s family back in Ireland.
At least, no one left alive.

That is until her late brother’s best mate arrives in the city for the bareknuckle bout of the century. Blood is spilled in the ring before the fight, and when Fiona is hired to clean it up, she finds that the boy from her past is now a dangerous man who may have answers she’d lost all hope of finding.
But while she frantically tries to keep his neck from a noose, it becomes apparent that her own is at risk.

Follow Fiona into her most chilling case yet, one that threatens to burn the precarious tightrope upon which she balances, and force her to decide, once and for all, on which side of the law she will choose to land.

The author has created such a fascinating heroine.
Fiona is the center of a strong circle of characters.
Every mystery is different and intriguing.
The first person narration gives you a window into her heart.
I'm looking forward to more of this series.

The characters are different but flow together. I hope there will be a book 4. Cant wait for more books.

Fiona Mahoney’s best friend was murdered by Jack the Ripper. As a result, she has promised herself to avenge her murder. Did I mention her neighbor and friend is no other than Oscar Wilde? She lives in London, cleaning death sites to support herself and her family. In this book she meets a friend from her past. He is involved with a woman who is viciously murdered. To save her friend she embarks on an investigation to clear his name.

This 3rd book in the series answers many of the questions from the previous books concerning Fiona’s personal losses. It is a tense, well constructed thriller that will keep you enthralled to the last sentence.

It was a quick read. I finished it in one day. It did not have much of Detective Croft who is my favorite character. It also did not focus on Fiona’s quest to unmask Jack the Ripper. I do hope there is a book 4 because there are many unanswered questions. Overall, I enjoyed the book but not as much as the first two books in the series.

I love this series. This book, like the others in the series, pulled me in and kept my interest. I didn't want to put it down! it was definitely worth the wait. If you like gothic and mysteries I would definitely recommend this series to you, really to anyone who likes a good book that grabs your attention.
Can not wait for the next book of the series!

Read it. I am complaining because of the length of this book because a juicy read deserves another 60 pages of good stuff. Lol. Frankly, the story is good, her life gets more tendrils to keep her in the land of life’s focus. Sadly, there are some bad bits for those who wanted the story to go one way or another. Also, this would also have a big issue as not syncing with the last book’s ending.

Alas, FINALLY!! I won't give away too much but I'd been very curious which was Fiona was gonna go and I am THRILLED with who she turned to! I hope it wasn't a one-off but I've yet to be disappointed with Kerrigan's work, so even if it turns out that way, I'm sure I'll be happy! This 1 has been a very slow burn & keeps me guessing! Another Worthy entry & as always, I wait with baited breath for the next!!
Read this one if you enjoy mystery, loyalty, & bloody stories!

Excellent installment to this series. Long awaited and not disappointing, except for Croft. I really like these characters and the plot was definitely edge of your seat. Looking forward to reading more from this talented storyteller.
