4.7 4.7 out of 5 stars 40 ratings

It's 1928 and Bright Young Things are taking London by storm, but debutante Ophelia's life is all mapped out: marriage to a cod-faced aristocrat and a life of dull respectability.

Refusing to play along, Ophelia is banished to her ancestral home in the Highlands of Scotland.
There, she'll be so bored, she'll come to her senses... won't she?
Meeting her eccentric relatives (not to mention ruggedly handsome estate manager Hamish) Ophelia isn't so sure.
Let the mayhem begin!

Prepare for mischief and hilarity in this 1920s romantic comedy, set against the majestic backdrop of the Scottish Highlands.

For fans of Downton Abbey, Nancy Mitford and Rhys Bowen

So many characters, personalities and chaos. This is the roaring twenties and women are embracing freedoms of Will, body, and mind. Sexuality is rampant and not limited by age. This is a coming of age novel for Ophelia. Hamish is the male lead. He’s a do gooder with manners always trying to be polite even when he should not. Ophelia’s insecurities cause problems. There are several obstacles and upstairs and downstairs discussions. It’s charming.

This 3 book set is the continuous story of Ophelia Finchingfield romance with Hamish Munro while at her grandmother’s estate Castle Kintochlochie. It is one filled with many ups and downs and several mysteries to be solved along the way.
1. Highland Pursuits
After turning down Perceval Huntley-Withington, the Earl of Woldershire’s offer of marriage, Ophelia Finchingfield’s mother banishes her to her grandmother’s estate in Scotland until she comes to her senses. Hamish Munro, who has recently lost his wife and baby, arrives late to gather Ophelia from the train station and then drives in her opinion recklessly to her grandmother’s home. Needless to say she doesn’t think too highly of her driver but will her opinion change? Her grandmother offers Ophelia a life far better than what she left but love still evades her. The one she loves may be already taken.
2. Highland Christmas
Family and friends gather at Castle Kintochlochie to celebrate a wedding and Christmas but Ophelia’s peaceful life after a proposal from Hamish is interrupted by three beings: Felecite, her own mother and a ghostly apparition.
3. Highland Wedding
Highland Wedding opens with Ophelia on the train with her mother who is now expecting twins heading back to Castle Kintochlochie and only days away from her own wedding to Hamish. But these next days will have her seriously questioning if she should marry Hamish. A handsome gentleman catches her attention on the train, then he turns up at the Castle and is her grandmother’s great, great nephew and in line to inherit the estate. Felicity also arrives back on the scene and mysterious warning letters turn up for Ophelia. Will Ophelia call the wedding off or will more lurking danger take her life?
As a set this offers a well written story with many captivating characters with interesting traits, some humorous, some serious, some old, some young, some titled, some servant, some strict and some very steamy.

I enjoyed this trilogy filled with strong, unique, and unconventional characters set in the Scottish Highlands. It is 1928 and life is changing for women but not for Ophelia, her mother is annoyed she turned down marriage to a titled gentleman. As punishment, she is sent to her grandmothers in the Scottish Highlands, her mother expects she’ll get bored and come to her senses. Instead, she is attracted to Hamish Munro, her grandmothers very attractive estate manager.

Her romance with Hamish doesn’t go smoothly and each book brings us a little closer to their marriage. I truly liked Ophelia and what enjoyed her transformation from a debutante under the careful eyes of her mother to a young lady who grows with confidence and wants to experience her sexual desires. I may be in the minority and although there were some very nice traits associated with Hamish, I would have not picked him for Ophelia, I though she deserved better.

So get ready for plenty of ups and downs, as you read this beautiful trilogy that has so much to offer, intrigue, emotional turbulence, funny relatives, danger, mystery, passion, and lots of drama.

Wonderful read. Full of complex, believable characters that pull you in and hold tight till the end. I ha e read several of Ms. de Maupassant's books and all of them have been fantastic reads that are difficult to put down. I would highly recommend her books to anyone who loves a good romance read, or even just loves a good story. I can't wait to read the next one on my wish list.

What a fun and loving romp in a Highlands castle! Readers get a treat with all three of the Scottish Highland romances bundled in one book. Now you can get the complete story of Ophelia and Hamish's rocky road to love and marriage in one volume. The 1920s is a great time to write about young women who for the first time can assert their independence, sexual freedom and career opportunities. Ophelia rejects her snooty mother's plans to marry her to some stuffy old aristocrat and instead sets her sights on the strapping and masculine Highland estate manager Hamish. I love the setting in a Scottish castle and the descriptions of the area are a real bonus. No Highland castle would be complete without potential ghosts, myths and unexplained events, which adds to the suspense and intrigue. And there are plenty of great animal heros, including dogs, horses and a surprising character in the third book who plays a key role. The characters who populate the castle, upstairs and downstairs, and the cast of guest who tramp through are fun, quirky and loveable. I especially enjoyed learning about the servants and estate staff. The second book includes many lively Christmas tradition. It is great that the epilogue updates you on the fate of the various characters that you grow to love. And who better to write about the castle than Emmanuelle who now lives in a castle tower in the Highlands herself I was fortunate to volunteer to read and review and early copy.

This trilogy has everything to entertain a reader.

Ophelia and Hamish’s relationship went through its ups and downs, jealousies, doubts, interferences and questioning love.

Guests, friends, relatives and staff added their dimensions of humour, romance, mystery and various points of view.
