Burned Out Boss: 25 Simple Strategies for Hospital Leaders to Rediscover Purpose and Joy Kindle Edition

5.0 out of 5 stars 9 ratings

Burnout is rampant. Workloads have mushroomed in all industries including hospitals. Data moves faster, cars drive themselves and life is complex. Yet human neurotransmitters travel the same speed they did 2000 years ago.

Our hospital workers, from the C-suite to the cafeteria, are experiencing more stress than can be physically processed and released. This stress accumulation has resulted in burnout, disengagement and staffing shortages in all areas.

Dr. Berryhill has written a book that is a thoughtful compilation of her experience with burnout as a director in a rural hospital. It's an easy read, packed full of tips that are designed to help healthcare leaders recover from burnout and reignite their purpose and passion. Her mission is to help leadership in hospitals, including supervisors, managers, directors, and executive leadership.

She lists the risk factors and characteristics of burnout in Section 1. In Section 2, she outlines 25 simple strategies or steps to recover from burnout. Any of the 25 strategies can be completed in just a few minutes. They're simple, yet effective, ideas to recover control over your schedule, your career and your happiness. Section 3 transitions to discuss burnout as it occurs throughout organizations and calls for more hospitals to address the mismatches within the organization, departments and individual healthcare workers.

About the Author:
