I STAND CORRECTED (ROSARIO AND BALOU SERIES Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.6 4.6 out of 5 stars 31 ratings

ROSARIO

I am Rosario Domínguez González, heiress to one of the largest and oldest fortunes in Spain. My family is considered in both the most elite economic and social circles as one of the richest and most influential in Europe…

BALOU

That was until the day when I sensed that someone was watching me; I opened one of my eyes and was just about to close it again when something caught my attention…

Rosario and Balou need each other for very different reasons… But for one of them, it is a matter of life and death.

Balou is taken away from his mother at a very tender age and sold to a pet shop where he waits impatiently for someone to claim him and take home a black and as he considers himself, an attractive British Shorthair cat. Just when he thinks this is going to be impossible and his bags are almost packed to go to the local animal shelter, he meets young and troubled Rosario who is really not looking for a pet.

It does not take him very long to realize that something is horribly wrong in her household and he takes it upon himself to protect the human he has come to love almost as much as he loves his food, his siestas and of course the time he spends outside chasing everything and anything that moves.

A Strange and endearing alliance is forged between them but he soon discovers that something is horribly wrong in Rosario’s household. Will he be able to save her?

The first in the mystery series of Rosario and Balou.

At the beginning I was a little bit skeptical of the storyline as it started with Balou -a cat- which is one of the main characters, and I have always considered cats in -general speaking- to be very shallow and not so intimately involved with humans. I am glad that I was wrong because while reading, I was fascinating by that bond between Rosario and his cat Balou and how he was able to look after her always, specially in the moments where she suffered the most. The best of this book in essence is how is portrayed domestic violence which is a topic that continues affecting our society, but unfortunately it's still a taboo no matter the social status, everybody could be expose to it.

I received this book for an honest review from the author and "Paranormal Romance & Authors That Rock".

"I Stand Corrected" follows the life of a house cat "Balou" and his new owner "Rosario". The story's primary focus is a very challenging relationship that Rosario is in and her and Balou's reaction to events regarding that relationship. Rosario leads a very privileged lifestyle and her cat is very receptive and feels deserving of the pampering that he receives. The author does a good job of expressing the cats thoughts and feelings of his deserving station in life and I found myself giggling a few times at his thoughts or actions. I enjoyed that the story covered two important beliefs that I also share; the bond between an owner and their pet improving the overall life of the owner, as well as how protective pets can become over their owners.

I am rating this story a 3 out of 5 fangs for a couple of reasons. The author is very descriptive in some areas of the story, almost to a fault. Covering details that as a reader did not draw me any further into the story and made it more of a challenge to enjoy the story. I found the majority of the story boring and it was difficult at times to read all the content and not just skim until something happened. But finally, I rated the story 3 fangs primarily just because of personal choice. This story is by no means a "light" read and covers a topic that I believe many would find challenging to enjoy. I have no negative feelings regarding stories that cover abuse, but I don't find them what I am drawn to for my personal reading. Other then a few light hearted scenes evolving around Balou, I found very little to be drawn to in the other characters. I became frustrated regarding the actions or lack thereof, from Rosario, but completely understand that the author was truthfully portraying a woman in an abusive relationship. The story is left in a cliffhanger status, but I will not be waiting to download the next story.

I really enjoyed this novel. Although the underlying theme wrangles with the difficult topic of domestic abuse, the author cleverly and thoughtfully narrates the story through the eyes of the family pet, making it somewhat of a fantasy drama....so there is a dual theme built upon the relationship between the protagonist and her faithful companion. What I really enjoy most about this novel is that it offers a story of hope and empowerment and demonstrates that sometimes we find deliverance in unexpected places.

5.0 out of 5 stars Interesting read, accurate research and a beautiful writing style- 5 stars :)

This book is fantastic. Patricia really got me involved, I think for a few chapters there I thought my name was actually Balou. She really goes into details about the mental framework of someone who has been abused and shows how this can be debilitating in for someone who you would assume is in total control of their life. Abuse is not a little issue though I believe many people don't realize how this is expressed by people who are being a bused and what the consequences are.

Additionally, the writing is beautiful. There is definitely a Spanish undertone to the characters and the writing style, adding flavor to the book. An easy read and well worth the money. 5 stars all the way. I cant wait for the next book in the series.

I Stand Corrected (Rosario and Balou Series Book 1) By Patricia Asedegbega

Rosario meet Balou in a pet shop while she was looking for a pet. Little did either of them know that Balou would become Rosario pillow of strength in more way than one as he uncovered the dark and painful goings on in his new home. I thought the Author did a really great job at tackling a very emotional, difficult and dark subject between Rosario and Javier relationship.

It was a really gripping and heartbreaking read that tackled a very sensitive subject of violence really well within the story. Also I found it interesting how Balou the cat tried to helped Rosario through a very hard time in her life. I found this book really well written and I loved the parts from Balou's point of view.

I read this book in one night because I needed to know how it ended before I could sleep.

I loved reading every single page in this book and the way the author described each character's thoughts. Most of all she has touched on an issue that faces women of all classes in the society. I can't wait for the next part to be out. Nice one, keep it up
