The main theme of this book is that focus is super important. Focus should be the number 1 thing when learning a new language. By focusing in one subject say (in learning a new language) one can learn things much faster than someone who is not focusing in completely. Focus applies to everything new you want to learn at a fast pace. It was good of the author to instill the thought of focus early on in the book. “Memory” offer some very neat psychological tricks such as: when you are working if any distractions come up instead of acting on them you should write them down. This will kind of feel like you are trapping that distraction and you can get back to those “distractions” later on. Another one i learned is to set a timer and work for only 50 minutes and take a 10 minute break and before returning back to work, spend another 10-15 minutes reviewing your work and set the timer for another 50 minutes.. Doing this will allow you to retain more information and remain focus on your work. All in all just like the book quotes “Someone who can not reign on his thoughts and focus can never achieve anything he wants.”

Being bilingual is a great benefit and with the tips provided in this book the average person can grasp the concepts related to learning a language. A great part of learning and excelling at a new language lies in retention of information. Anyone who has the ability to align his thoughts and devote complete focus and concentration on the task at hand can realize anything he aspires to. This applies to new things in life such as learning a new language. I found this book to be interesting and informative due to the techniques and methods for improving focus, the mental exercises, and the methods to improve learning capacity. The author encourages you to practice and test yourself in order to successfully master your language at hand. the most beneficial section is the one on techniques for learning a new language such as knowing your learning style and keeping targets.

This book surely would help a lot in my chldren's study on how to better improve their grade. I am reading it for them so that I can teach them what I have learned on this book. It discussed techniques and tips on how to focus more, in our world today it is very hard to stay focus as kids specially teens are very distracted easily. Prioritization should also be given value so that one would know what to finish off first. I sure love the Mental exercise given as this gives our mind a warm up. Also methods on how to improve learning capacity and techniques was stated. The best part of the book are pointers in learning new language, in our era knowing 2-3 language is a must as it s very helpful in career opportunities and it is a plus factor in one's resume. This book is amazingly helpful in efficiently studying better specially for students to achieve high grades.

Maybe it's just me, but it seems that everything said in this book has been covered by the language teacher in the first 10 minutes of the lecture...

This is more like an article than a book, some of the exercises sound like they may be effective, but I was disappointed that I was able to read this entire book in 15 minutes. Don't waste your money.

I was not expecting to like this book, I just came across it and figured that I should give it a shot, I can already speak two languages fluently and planning to add another one, probably French or Chinese, I hope this book will be effective enough once I start my online lessons next week. I never planned of scheduling it that early, but who knows, I might master the language in just a span of 2months! Good luck with that achievement! Thanks John Buchanan for this book :)

Researchers have proved over the last decade that if you can keep your brain active (particularly when older), you are more likely to have fewer mental illnesses and generally live longer. Also improving your memory has the added benefits of making you more efficient and effective in your day to day life. After reading the contents page, I purchased this book more for the latter reason.. being able to focus more and not be so distracted in my job.

The style and content of the book are both great. I liked the natural flow of the book, regards to how to improve your focus (the 50 minute working window has helped massively!) etc then exercises on how to improve your actual memory.

There is also a chapter on how to learn a new language.. but this not something I have read yet.
